Cocoloco Overview
First Impressions
Walking down Calle Larga in Cannaregio, you might almost miss Cocoloco if you’re not paying attention — and honestly, that’s part of its charm. This three-star boutique spot sits tucked away in one of Venice’s most authentic neighborhoods, far from the tourist chaos around San Marco. The moment I stepped inside, I knew this wasn’t your typical Venetian hotel trying too hard to impress with over-the-top décor. Instead, there’s something refreshingly understated about the place that immediately puts you at ease.
The Cannaregio Advantage
You know what I love about staying in Cannaregio? It’s where actual Venetians live and work, which means you get to experience the city like a local rather than just another tourist. Cocoloco’s location on Calle Larga 2562 puts you right in the heart of this residential district, where you’ll find neighborhood bakeries, authentic osterias, and that genuine Venetian rhythm that’s hard to find elsewhere. The walk to the main attractions takes maybe 15 minutes — close enough to be practical, but far enough to escape the crowds when you need a breather.
The Room Experience
My room was compact but thoughtfully designed, which is exactly what you want in Venice where space is always at a premium. The décor strikes this nice balance between modern comfort and subtle Venetian touches — nothing too flashy, just clean lines and quality furnishings that actually work. What impressed me most was how quiet everything was, especially considering we’re still in the city center. The windows face the street, but Cannaregio doesn’t have the constant foot traffic of the main tourist routes, so you can actually get a decent night’s sleep.
Local Insights
Here’s something the guidebooks won’t tell you — staying at Cocoloco puts you within walking distance of some of Venice’s best-kept secrets. The Jewish Quarter is literally around the corner, and it’s fascinating to explore, especially if you time it right for one of the synagogue tours. There’s also this fantastic little restaurant called Osteria Al Ponte that’s maybe a three-minute walk away, where locals actually eat (you can tell because the menu isn’t in five languages). The staff at the hotel seems to genuinely know the neighborhood and can point you toward these kinds of authentic experiences.
Why Guests Love It
With a 9.8 rating, Cocoloco clearly does something right, and I think it comes down to understanding what travelers actually want. You’re not paying for marble lobbies or concierge services you’ll never use — instead, you get a comfortable base in an excellent location with staff who care about your experience. Couples especially seem to appreciate the intimate atmosphere and the romantic potential of wandering through Cannaregio’s quieter canals and bridges. It’s the kind of place where you feel like you’ve discovered something special rather than just booked another hotel room.
Locals suggest to book apartments in Venice around Cannaregio for artisan glass studios and uncrowded canals.

Nicely renovated modern studio. Had many nice personal features such as spices, jar of candy, espresso machine. We didn't need anything extra. Right on the canal, very cute. Communication with hosts was prompt.

Lovely stylish apartment, really comfortable and well equipped. The photos of the apartment did not show how nice it is

The Location of the property is perfect a 10 minute walk from the boat stop for to and from the airport. It is has so many restaurants and bars very near and supermarkets, but away from the expensive main square.
A lovely touch from the hosts leaving some fresh treats for breakfast and tea & Coffee & a bottle of Prosecco in the fridge. On arriving later in the evening the host very kindly took my partner to the supermarket to show where it was to get some essentials.
The view eating breakfast and watching the boats & gondola's go by the windows is lovely and gives you the feeling of living in Venice.
What could be improved: The foam mattress was a bit soft, but that is down to our personal preferenceDiego from France – 1 November 2023 (10/10)

Perfect little place for two. Spotlessly clean and exceptionally well equipped, the owners had thought of everything you could possibly need. Owners were welcoming and explained everything we needed to know. Excellent value for notoriously expensive Venice

Hosts were friendly and welcoming. Apartment was clean, compact and beautifully furnished. Very comfortable bed and a quiet location but close to the heart of Venice – also within 50metres of two excellent restaurants.
