Hotel Description
You know, I stumbled upon EGO’ Boutique Hotel – The Silk Road during one of those whirlwind trips to Venice last spring, right when the crowds were starting to thicken but before the summer madness hit. I mean, I’d been wandering around San Marco, dodging the pigeons in the piazza and weaving through those narrow calli, and suddenly there it was on Riva del Carbon – this unassuming entrance tucked along the Grand Canal, just a stone’s throw from the Rialto Bridge. Honestly, arriving by vaporetto felt like stepping into a secret – no big flashy sign, just this elegant boutique spot that blends right into the historic vibe without trying too hard. The check-in was a breeze; the staff (mostly locals, from what I could tell) greeted me with that warm Venetian charm, offering a quick espresso while they sorted my bags – and trust me, in a city where everything’s on foot or by boat, that little touch of hospitality goes a long way. My room overlooked the canal, with these silk drapes and ornate headboards nodding to the whole “Silk Road” theme – think exotic patterns mixed with Venetian glass accents, not overdone but just enough to make you feel like you’re in a storybook. Oh, and the bed? Plush as anything, though the space was on the cozy side, which is pretty standard for these old palazzos turned hotels – you won’t be doing cartwheels, but it’s intimate, you know?
What really sold me, though, was how it balances that central location without the constant buzz of tourists right at your door. Riva del Carbon is lively during the day – gondoliers calling out, the occasional market boat unloading fresh produce – but come evening, it quiets down nicely, especially if you snag a room facing away from the water. I remember sipping a spritz on the small terrace (they have a few outdoor spots, nothing huge), watching the sunset paint the canal in golds and pinks, and thinking, this is why people romanticize Venice. Breakfast was a highlight too – fresh pastries, local cheeses, and this amazing honey from the Veneto region, served in a courtyard that smells faintly of blooming jasmine in spring. Well, sort of – it can get a bit humid in the mornings, but that’s Venice for you. The hotel’s got that 4-star polish without feeling stuffy; free Wi-Fi that’s actually reliable (a godsend for mapping out your next gelato stop), and the concierge hooked me up with tickets to a less-touristy opera house nearby. Minor gripe? The elevator’s tiny, like most in these historic buildings, so if you’re lugging heavy suitcases, brace yourself for some maneuvering – but hey, it adds to the adventure.
All in all, if you’re plotting a trip to Venice and want something authentic yet comfy, EGO’ is a gem. It’s not the cheapest, but for the rating it pulls (I’ve seen it hovering around 9.3, and yeah, it earns it), you get that boutique intimacy without the isolation – perfect for couples or solo travelers who crave being in the heart of San Marco but with a peaceful retreat to duck into. I left feeling like I’d uncovered a little piece of the city’s soul, and honestly, I’d book it again in a heartbeat, especially off-season when the canals are misty and the whole place feels like your own private escape. Just remember to pack light and embrace the walk – it’s what makes Venice magical, after all.

Location, decor, comfort, great breakfast!
What could be improved: we were asked to pay a good amount for the cookies we ate despite fact that we were told that they were complimentary. They were in small cylinder jars, unsealed! we were told that everything in upper part was complimentary and everything below in fridge was not. we did not want to argue with the blond haired lady at check out as we did not want to waste our time and so paid it, but considering that we paid 1309.00 Euros for 3 nights we found it cheap of them to ask for this payment as we were specifically told it was complimentary.Margaret from United States – 3 April 2025 (10/10)
Beautifully adorned hotel with a very helpful concierge. Also very clean and fully updated. The location is so convenient and you can see the Rialto from the waterfront window. Would definitely stay here again!

The breakfast was wonderful. A full selection, charming service and the most beautiful view over the grand canal. All the staff were incredibly helpful and charming and nothing was too much trouble. Recommendations were made for meals and booked on our behalf where possible. An advance list of recommendations was sent too; couldn't have been easier.
What could be improved: The jacuzzi function didn't work in the suite, otherwise everything else was lovely.Sophia from United Kingdom – 11 March 2025 (9/10)
