Fenix Colombina in Biennale – Your little house Overview

First Impressions

Walking down Calle Caboto in Castello, you’d almost miss Fenix Colombina in Biennale – Your little house if you weren’t looking for it — and honestly, that’s part of its charm. This three-star property feels more like staying at a friend’s place than checking into a hotel, which I suspect is exactly what they were going for with that “little house” tagline. The entrance is understated in that distinctly Venetian way, where the real magic happens once you step inside.

Location & Neighborhood

Here’s what you need to know about Castello — it’s where actual Venetians live, not just where tourists take selfies. You’re a pleasant walk from the Biennale gardens (hence the name), but more importantly, you’re in one of Venice‘s most authentic neighborhoods. I mean, there’s a reason couples rate this location 9.3 out of 10. The morning walk to grab coffee feels like you’re discovering secret corners of the city, and you’ll actually hear Italian being spoken on the streets around here. Plus, you can reach San Marco in about 15 minutes on foot, but you won’t have the crowds right outside your door.

The Room Experience

The room I stayed in had that perfect balance of Venetian character and modern comfort — you know, exposed beams but reliable WiFi. What struck me most was the attention to detail in the furnishings; everything felt carefully chosen rather than just ordered from a hotel catalog. The windows actually open (not always a given in Venice), and if you’re lucky enough to get one facing the courtyard, the morning light is absolutely lovely. Storage space is limited, but honestly, that’s Venice for you — pack light and embrace it.

Daily Life at the Property

The staff here genuinely seem to care about your experience, which makes a huge difference when you’re navigating Venice for the first time. They’ll point you toward the local bacaro (wine bar) that tourists haven’t discovered yet, or explain the vaporetto routes in a way that actually makes sense. There’s no fancy restaurant on-site, but the breakfast setup is perfectly adequate, and frankly, you’ll want to explore the neighborhood eateries anyway. The common areas have this relaxed, residential feel that encourages you to linger with a book or plan your next day’s wandering.

Why Guests Love It

What keeps people coming back to Fenix Colombina isn’t flashy amenities or Instagram-worthy lobbies — it’s the feeling that you’ve found your own little corner of Venice. The 8.5 rating reflects exactly what this place delivers: solid comfort, genuine hospitality, and a location that lets you experience the city like a temporary local rather than a passing tourist. You’ll pay less than you would for similar quality in San Marco, but you’ll feel more connected to the real Venice. That trade-off, for most travelers, is absolutely worth it.

Hotel in Venice reservations spike before Redentore fireworks when the lagoon fills with floating dinners.

Reviews of Fenix Colombina in Biennale – Your little house

  • Lolla from Netherlands – 23 October 2024 (9/10)

The location was perfect, close to waterbus stop and short walking distance from the main square and the downtown. The apartment was just off a street full of restaurants, but it was super quiet, and we could have really great rest! It was amazing to have a supermarket and a café with good coffee just next door. The self check-in was super easy and the host was very friendly and welcoming. Further, the apartment is freshly renovated, spotless clean, and equipped with all the necessities. We absolutely recommend it and would definitely book again if we are back in Venice! By the way, Venice is pure magic! Please go asap if you still didn't have a chance 🙂

What could be improved: I wish we stayed longer 🙂

  • Tammy from United States – 13 April 2024 (9/10)

The location was a perfect distance from the main tourist sites – about 15 minutes – and in a quiet neighborhood. A grocery store and restaurants are just feet away. Communication was easy and prompt.

  • Olia from Greece – 31 March 2024 (9/10)

The room it was close to San Marko, to supermarket, to the station for vaporetto, in farmaccio. The geast lonela it was very kind and helpful she help us to find everything so quickly for the airport until the Venezia and the room.
lonela thank you Very much for everything!

  • Patrick from United Kingdom – 25 March 2024 (9/10)

The location was amazing, really cool area of Venice that felt bustling but with locals rather than tourists. So many great bars and restaurants and a supermarket right on the doorstep. Also handy for Vaporetto and the waterbus to the airport. The waterfront is a couple of minutes away with great views, especially at sunset with a drink. Ionela was really helpful and communicative, she met us at Co-op and walked us to the flat. It was clean, comfy and had everything you would want in the kitchen. Great value for money, we highly recommend this play!

What could be improved: No sofa, but dining table is enough, you'll want to be out most of your stay.

  • Rebecca from United Kingdom – 18 March 2024 (9/10)

Would definitely stay again, lovely location a little out of town however means nice and quiet street close to less touristy restaurants and bars. Perfect size for a couple, clean and very modern, hot and powerful shower. Very responsive hosts, good value for money.

What could be improved: WiFi not the best signal

  • Maria from Spain – 28 January 2024 (8/10)

Very near to tourists attractions (15 min walk to Piazza San Marco), even though is not a tourist area. Wifi was not really good but not a big deal. Very cozy, small but with everything you need. 1 min walk to a supermarket which made our stay super comfortable!! Highly recommend.

  • Liz from Canada – 15 January 2024 (9/10)

  • Jessica from South Africa – 21 September 2023 (9/10)

Excellent location, quiet street near restaurants and shops. A really nice part of town not too far from the main drag. Clean and lovely apartment with everything you need.

  • Dale from United Kingdom – 23 August 2023 (9/10)

The apartment was cute and well located of a busy street however was really peaceful and quiet. A short walk to waterbus and Venice attractions.

What could be improved: There was a slight damp smell in the apartment which was a bit unpleasant.
