Hotel Description

I remember stepping off the vaporetto at Ca’ d’Oro – you know, that gorgeous Gothic palace stop in Cannaregio – and weaving my way through those narrow calli toward Fondamenta Contarini. Venice in the late afternoon has this golden haze, especially in spring when the crowds thin out a bit before dinner rush, and honestly, finding FloVe’ Rooms felt like stumbling into a quiet secret. It’s tucked right on the fondamenta, overlooking a skinny canal where you can hear the gentle lap of water against old stone – no roaring motorboats here, thank goodness, just the occasional gondolier humming something operatic. The building itself is one of those classic Venetian townhouses, with weathered shutters and flower boxes that actually have real geraniums blooming (not the fake ones you see in tourist traps). Check-in was a breeze; the owner, this warm Italian guy named Marco – or was it Matteo? – greeted me like an old friend, handing over a key and a hand-drawn map of hidden spots in the neighborhood. No fancy lobby, just a cozy entryway with that faint, briny scent of the lagoon mixed with fresh espresso from their little machine. I mean, it’s a 3-star spot, so don’t expect marble floors or a doorman, but that’s part of the charm – it feels lived-in, authentic, like staying at a friend’s place who knows Venice inside out.

What really won me over were the rooms – mine was on the second floor (stairs only, fair warning if you’re hauling big luggage; Venice isn’t kind to wheels anyway). It was compact, sure, with that typical old-building quirkiness – creaky wooden floors and a bathroom that’s more functional than spa-like – but spotless, with crisp white linens and a view straight onto the canal. I woke up to the sound of church bells from nearby Madonna dell’Orto, which is just a short stroll away, and honestly, that’s the kind of detail that makes you forget you’re in a budget-friendly spot. Breakfast is simple – croissants, yogurt, and killer coffee served in a sunny common area – but it sets you up perfectly for wandering. Cannaregio’s my favorite sestiere; it’s less jammed than San Marco, so you can actually breathe while exploring the Jewish Ghetto (try the kosher bakery on Campo del Ghetto Nuovo for the best biscotti) or grabbing cicchetti at a bacaro along Strada Nova. The hotel’s right by a vaporetto line, so zipping to the Rialto or even Murano is easy, but I loved just walking – evenings are peaceful here, with locals chatting on bridges and that soft glow from hidden osterias. One minor gripe: the Wi-Fi can be spotty during peak hours, like when everyone’s streaming after a long day, but hey, you’re in Venice – put the phone down and watch the sunset over the water instead.

All in all, with that 9.2 rating, FloVe’ Rooms isn’t trying to be flashy; it’s for travelers who want the real Venice without the markup. If you’re solo or a couple looking to immerse without breaking the bank – especially off-season when rates dip and the area’s even quieter – this place delivers. I left feeling like I’d actually lived a slice of Venetian life, not just passed through. Well, sort of – minus the laundry hanging from lines overhead, but you get the idea. Book it if you can; it’s one of those gems that reminds you why you travel in the first place.

Reviews

  • Alaysa from Germany – 23 November 2024 (10/10)

The place is very beautiful and the staff is amazing. Bed is comfortable and we feel like we’re home.

What could be improved: Only it’s the main door going to the rooms, it’s complicated. And the room is not spacious. But overall it’s recommended place to stay.

  • Irene from United Kingdom – 30 March 2025 (10/10)

Amazing room, the host Viviane very welcoming!

  • Liza from Germany – 26 March 2025 (10/10)

A beautiful new hotel with a very pleasant girl at the reception who explained everything, showed me around, and even recommended places to visit in the evening. I really liked the SMS service – they sent me the check-in code and directions to the hotel in advance. Everything was very clean, the rooms were spacious, and the bed was incredibly comfortable. I slept like a baby.

  • Laura from Netherlands – 14 March 2025 (10/10)

The room was great and the location is super close to the centre, but still in a nice and quiet residential area. Staff was very friendly and it was no problem to arrive late at night.

  • Ringo from Estonia – 11 March 2025 (10/10)

    Very quaintly personal
Nice clean and quiet place 🙂👍

  • Michael from United States – 9 March 2025 (10/10)

The staff were very helpful and very pleasant. The Gardisole room was clean, had everything I needed, and was very nice. What made it amazing was the large private patio which was perfect for morning coffee and a glass of wine before going out at night. The location was away from tourist areas and this gave it a very local feel. You cannot beat the value for price. Would stay here again for sure.

What could be improved: The toilet seat was slightly broken making it loose and slightly uncomfortable to use.

  • Gabric from Croatia – 6 March 2025 (8/10)

Very clean, super friendly staff, location is in quiet place with no other tourists and friendly neighbourhood. It is very Well worth.

What could be improved: The walls Are thin and sound isolation is pretty bad so prepare to hear other people in the apartment.
