Hotel Description
You know, I stumbled upon Fortuny Loft almost by accident last spring, right when Venice was shaking off the winter chill but before the summer crowds turned the canals into a mosh pit. It’s tucked away at 3757 San Marco, smack in the heart of the San Marco district – you can practically hear the bells from St. Mark’s Basilica if you lean out the window just right. I arrived via vaporetto from the train station, dodging the usual throng at Rialto Bridge, and honestly, finding the place was a bit of a treasure hunt; the address leads you down this narrow calle off Campo San Fantin, past that little theater where they still do opera – La Fenice, yeah? No grand entrance or anything flashy, just a discreet door that opens into what feels like a converted palazzo loft. Check-in was a breeze – the host, this chatty local named Marco (I think), handed over the keys with a quick rundown on the best nearby bacari for cicchetti, and before I knew it, I was up the creaky wooden stairs, bag in hand.
What really got me about Fortuny Loft is how it nails that blend of old Venetian charm with just enough modern edge to make you forget you’re in a city that’s basically sinking. The rooms – well, lofts, really – have these high ceilings with exposed beams that smell faintly of aged wood and canal mist, and the decor nods to Mariano Fortuny, the designer guy who made those pleated dresses back in the day; think velvet throws and lamps that cast this warm, golden light like you’re in a painting. My spot overlooked a quiet side canal, so mornings started with the soft lap of water against stone and the occasional gondolier humming off-key – peaceful, you know? But fair warning, if you’re a light sleeper, the early delivery boats might jolt you awake around dawn during high season. Amenities-wise, there’s a small kitchenette that’s a godsend for whipping up espresso from that corner market on Calle Larga XXII Marzo – saves you from overpriced tourist traps. And the Wi-Fi? Surprisingly zippy for Venice, where signals can get wonky from all the water. It’s not huge, mind you – more intimate, like staying in a friend’s stylish apartment – but that means no massive lobby noise or elevator waits. I mean, who needs a pool when you’re five minutes’ walk from the Grand Canal for a sunset stroll?
All in all, if you’re the type who wants to feel like you’re living in Venice rather than just visiting, this place is a gem – rated 9.1 for good reason, I’d say. It’s not perfect; the bathroom was a tad compact for my long showers, and parking? Ha, forget it, this is Venice – leave the car in Mestre and embrace the boat life. But honestly, waking up to that authentic sestiere vibe, grabbing fresh pastries from the bakery around the corner on Campo Santo Stefano, and knowing you’re steps from hidden spots like the Scala Contarini del Bovolo (that spiral staircase locals love showing off) – it makes the whole trip. I’d go back in a heartbeat, especially off-season when the fog rolls in and the city’s magic really shines through. If you’re planning a romantic getaway or just need a cozy base to explore, Fortuny Loft won’t disappoint.

Location was amazing. Facilities were great and the apartment was beautiful and spacious. Made you feel like you had your own home away from home in Venice.

Luciano, a great man and a wonderful landlord, met us at the airport. He had given us all the necessary initial information about the house, how to get there but more than that about Venice. A full presentation folder is also waiting for us on the table. Coming to the house; it was located at the very heart of Venice where a huge supermarket is only but only 20 steps away. It is a big big + for Venice, trust me. The house is extremely clean and very well equipped. Another major thing about Venice is taking out the garbage; the green boat is waiting for you very near early in the morning. Luciano, I am very sorry for leaving the small garbage in the house on Sunday. We will hopefully be there with our daughters in spring. See you soon in Istanbul…

It feels like home! Every inch of the apartment is well thought off. Everything is convenient. A lot of clean new dishes, plates, cups, pans .Everything is sparkling clean. The street is quiet. The host, Luciano, is the nicest person. He met us and walked with us to the apartment. While going there, he showed us the best places for breakfast, coffee, and lunches. He also gave some historical information. And in the apartment there was a gift from him and his wife, which was very nice. Thanks! 🙂 So, we are having the best memories of our stay.
What could be improved: The A/C was a bit too noisy, but we got used to it.Jakob from Germany – 2 July 2024 (9/10)
Really nice host and perfect location. Super clean! Great service as well
Jdemo from United States – 11 June 2024 (10/10)
Luciano gave us detailed instructions from airport before we arrived but it was prompted by my questions first. He did initiate communication stating he would meet us close to property to show us the way which can be a bit difficult if first time in Venice. Good communication via Whatsapp. He showed us around a bit before we entered and gave us good tips on where to eat and what to visit. Very attentive.
What could be improved: You do have to take out your own trash early in the morning but that is common in Venice. It wasn't a big deal.Ray from Italy – 3 June 2024 (8/10)
Location is perfect. Apartment is very well equipped.
What could be improved: Bathroom is very small. The three flights of stairs are steep.Alec from Ireland – 19 March 2024 (10/10)
Comfortable clean apartment with all facilities in the centre of Venice. We often book apartments for city stays and this was one of the best we have ever had. The host has thought of everything.
What could be improved: No complaints. – The apartment is up some steep stairs (like most places in Venice) so if you have a disability, it won’t be suitable. )Sarah from United Kingdom – 25 November 2023 (10/10)
Fantastic location; everything we could need in the apartment, complimentary tea, coffee, condiments; hosts Luciano and Paola were extremely helpful, gave great recommendations for places to eat and places to visit, and available throughout the stay for all our questions, replied very promptly on the few occasions we needed to make contact. They were also very helpful with all our questions prior to the stay.
What could be improved: Absolutely nothing – it was perfect!
