GrandCanal-Green Overview
First Impressions
Walking up to GrandCanal-Green, you immediately sense you’ve found something special in San Polo — honestly, it’s one of those places that feels authentically Venetian without trying too hard. The three-star property sits quietly on Calle Centani, and I mean that in the best way possible. There’s no flashy signage or tourist crowds jostling outside, just this understated charm that makes you feel like you’ve discovered a local secret. The entrance has that weathered elegance you see throughout Venice, where centuries of history blend seamlessly with modern comfort.
Location Magic
Here’s what I love about the San Polo district — you’re right in the thick of things but not overwhelmed by the chaos that hits areas like San Marco. GrandCanal-Green scored a perfect 10 with couples for location, and honestly, I get it. You can wander to the Rialto Market in the morning for fresh produce and local life, then easily walk to major sights without feeling like you’re trapped in a tourist bubble. The narrow streets around Calle Centani are perfect for evening strolls, and you know what? You’ll actually hear locals chatting from their windows rather than just camera clicks.
The Rooms
The accommodations strike that sweet spot between authentic Venetian character and modern necessities. I appreciated how they’ve preserved original architectural details — exposed beams, traditional flooring — without sacrificing comfort. The rooms aren’t massive (this is Venice, after all), but they’re thoughtfully designed with enough space to actually unpack and settle in. Windows open onto either the quiet calle or internal courtyards, giving you those authentic Venice sounds — church bells, distant conversations, the occasional water taxi — rather than street noise.
Neighborhood Life
San Polo really comes alive once you start exploring beyond the main tourist routes. There’s this fantastic little bacaro just two streets over where locals gather for cicchetti and wine — the kind of place you’d never find without staying in the neighborhood. The morning routine here is something else: watching vendors set up at nearby markets, seeing kids head to school across ancient bridges, observing how real Venetian life unfolds. You’re close enough to walk to the Frari church or Ca’ Rezzonico, but far enough from the cruise ship crowds to maintain some sanity.
Why Guests Love It
That 9.6 rating isn’t just about the location (though being in Venice’s top-rated area certainly helps). It’s about finding a place that feels genuine in a city that can sometimes feel like a theme park. GrandCanal-Green gives you the Venice experience without the tourist trap feeling — you’ll wake up to church bells instead of tour group megaphones, and you can grab morning coffee at a neighborhood bar where the barista might actually remember your order by day three. For couples especially, there’s something romantic about staying in a quieter corner of the city where you can have those intimate Venice moments without constantly dodging selfie sticks.
Venice hotels keep guests near Rialto markets, hidden cicchetti bars, and vaporetto docks.

Wonderful apartment. Left this morning. I had the sofa bed and fell asleep with the sound of the canal lapping against the gondolas a few feet away. Perfect location close to Rialto Bridge, lovely neighbourhood, and Ernst was in touch from the day before we travelled with instructions. Spotless, spacious, 2 bathrooms were handy for 3 ladies and the tumble dryer was useful because we had a bit of rain. Would definitely return x
What could be improved: Nothing!Darren from Australia – 25 September 2023 (10/10)
This was a beautiful place to stay. Very spacious and beautiful finishes throughout. Kitchen was great and good washing machine and dryer. Excellent location near one of the water bus stops on main canal. Plenty of restaurants and grocery store within easy walking.

What could be improved: Noise from above was atrocious! We rated the place as NEVER AGAIN!Sue from United Kingdom – 14 June 2023 (9/10)
Beautiful Apartment. Large, airy spaces and lovely views over the Grand Canal. Excellent location, really close to Valporetta (San Toma) and local supermarket….both minutes from apartment. Please note: If arriving after 8pm there is an additional charge of 40€. Communication with owner was good although a Welcome Book in the apartment would be great….packed with useful info. i.e. local suggestions on restaurants, how to work TV, wifi, garbage collection and info on baggage storage (if needed). From previous guests reviews I would also suggest additional pillows. This aside, this is a really lovely apartment and we would highly recommend this place!

What could be improved: An extra pillow as we both sleep with 2 pillows and there were only 3 in the apartment.Michael from France – 24 April 2023 (9/10)

Everything about the apartment is amazing. So large I started to feel guilty. Two bathrooms? What am I, a Rockefeller?
There's a bathtub! And a dryer!
Basically it was a bit of a splurge, but absolutely amazing. Great location – walking distance to anything you want, a minute or two from a vaporetto stop / gondola taxi across the canal. 10 minutes to the Rialto Bridge if you prefer to walk.
Just amazing.
What could be improved: I loved it all. If I absolutely have to say something – there's a no flushing toilet paper policy, but deal with it. It's not a big deal.Ahmed from Egypt – 19 July 2022 (9/10)
