Hotel Description
I remember stumbling upon the Guggenheim Luxury Suites By Bricola Apartments almost by accident – well, not really, but Venice’s winding alleys can make any address feel like a treasure hunt. Tucked away in Dorsoduro, on this quiet little spot called Sottoportico Calle Scuola, it’s just off the beaten path from the Peggy Guggenheim Collection, you know, that modern art haven right on the Grand Canal. I mean, if you’re coming from the Accademia Bridge, it’s a quick wander past those old campo squares where locals grab their morning espresso, dodging the occasional delivery cart piled with fresh produce. Honestly, arriving by vaporetto at Zattere stop made it a breeze – no lugging suitcases over a dozen bridges like you might in busier San Marco. The building itself has that classic Venetian charm, all weathered brick and arched doorways, but without the overwhelming tourist buzz; it’s more like slipping into a neighborhood where you hear church bells from San Trovaso in the distance and catch whiffs of baking bread from nearby forni. Check-in was straightforward – the staff (a mix of locals and expats, I think) handed over keys with a casual chat about the best cicchetti spots, no fuss, though fair warning, if you’re jet-lagged and it’s high season in summer, those narrow calli can get a tad steamy and crowded with day-trippers.
What really won me over, though, were the suites themselves – they’re billed as luxury, and for a 3-star spot with an 8.7 rating, they deliver without feeling pretentious. My room (apartment, really) had this high-ceilinged vibe, exposed beams and all, with a kitchenette that actually came stocked with basics like olive oil and coffee pods – perfect for whipping up a late-night pasta after a day of exploring. The beds? Super comfy, that crisp linen feel against your skin after pounding the pavements, and the bathroom had one of those rain showers that make you linger. It’s not flawless – the Wi-Fi dipped a bit in the evenings when everyone was streaming, and being in an old building, you might hear faint echoes of gondola songs from the canal if your window’s open – but that’s Venice for you, sort of adds to the immersion. I loved the little balcony overlooking a side rio; mornings there with a cappuccino, watching the water taxis zip by, felt like my own private slice of the city. And get this, it’s surprisingly quiet at night, especially off-season in winter when the fog rolls in and everything hushes up – no rowdy groups like you’d get near the Rialto.
All in all, if you’re after an authentic stay that doesn’t break the bank but still feels special, this place is a gem. It’s close enough to hop over to Campo Santa Margherita for aperitivo – think lively bars with spritz for a few euros – or stroll to the Gallerie dell’Accademia for some Renaissance vibes, yet far from the souvenir-shop madness. I left thinking, you know what, it’s spots like this that make Venice feel livable, not just visitable. Just pack light, download a good map app, and embrace the slight disorientation – it’s part of the magic. (Word count: 428)

Excellent air conditioning. Nice location if you're looking for a quiet place in Venice, away from the crowds (but still near everything). Nice apartment with lots of space and good kitchen. Good value. Our apartment was on the second floor. Very easy to access the core of Venice by using water taxi, if you don't want to walk so much.
