Hotel Description
I remember stumbling upon Hotel Antigo Trovatore almost by accident during my last trip to Venice – you know, one of those whirlwind visits in early fall when the crowds thin out a bit but the air still has that crisp, salty tang from the lagoon. It’s tucked away on Calle delle Rasse in the Castello district, just a stone’s throw from the bustling chaos of St. Mark’s Square – honestly, you can hear the bells from the basilica chiming if you crack a window open at dawn. I arrived via vaporetto from the train station, lugging my bag over those uneven stone bridges, and let me tell you, finding the place was a breeze once I spotted the little sign poking out from the narrow alley. No grand entrance or anything flashy – it’s a modest 3-star spot, but the staff at check-in were all smiles, chatting in that rapid-fire Italian-English mix while handing over a room key with zero fuss. I mean, after a long day dodging tourists on the Rialto, that kind of low-key welcome felt like a hug. The lobby’s got this cozy, old-world vibe with worn wooden floors that creak just enough to remind you you’re in a building that’s probably seen centuries of comings and goings – nothing pretentious, but it sets the tone right away.
What really won me over, though, was how the hotel sort of blends into the neighborhood without trying too hard. My room was on the second floor, overlooking a quiet side canal – well, quiet except for the occasional gondolier belting out a tune in the evenings, which is more charming than annoying if you’re into that Venice romance thing. The bed was firm but comfy, with those crisp white sheets that smell faintly of lavender (or maybe that’s just my imagination after too much espresso). Breakfast is served in a small courtyard – think fresh croissants, strong coffee, and maybe some prosciutto if you’re lucky – and it’s included, which is a godsend in a city where everything costs an arm and a leg. I wandered out one morning and hit the nearby San Zaccaria vaporetto stop in under two minutes, hopping on to Murano for the day; or you could just stroll to the Doge’s Palace, dodging the pigeons and street vendors selling those cheap carnival masks. Parking? Forget it – this is Venice, so leave the car behind, but the hotel’s got a deal with a nearby luggage storage if you need it. Oh, and a minor gripe: the Wi-Fi can be spotty in the rooms during peak hours, like when everyone’s uploading their Piazza pics, but it sorts itself out if you head to the lobby.
All in all, if you’re looking for a spot that feels authentically Venetian without the hefty price tag – it’s rated a solid 8.7 for a reason – this is it. I stayed three nights and left feeling like I’d actually lived a slice of local life, you know? Not some glossy resort experience, but the real deal with its quirks and all. Go in shoulder season to avoid the summer swarm, and you’ll thank me – especially when you’re sipping an Aperol spritz at a tiny bar on nearby Campo San Zaccaria, watching the world float by.

No need to think twice—just choose this hotel! It was the most impressive choice during my trip to Italy. After taking the 5.1 or 4.1 boat from Santa Lucia station, it's less than a five-minute walk to the hotel, located right next to the Doge's Palace, in an impeccable spot. There are also delicious gelato and Italian restaurants nearby. All the staff members were extremely friendly, and the lady serving breakfast was warm and attentive, checking on how you were enjoying your meal. The front desk also proactively asked if you needed assistance. The room was unbeatable, with views of the Doge's Palace and St. Mark's Campanile while enjoying the sea breeze. Yes, I have arrived in Venice! Thank you to this hotel for the wonderful memories!

Central location close San Marco. Friendly, 24 reception with very helpful staff. We had a lovely balcony, with a warm bright and immaculate room.

Great to get off the ferry taxi and only have to walk 50 to the hotel. Venice is a circus if you didn’t know. And trust me, it’s not the locals fault. I can’t believe they let us all in like they do. Lovely staff as well.
What could be improved: I gave the hotel a 9 because my room was above a very busy alley/street and was noisy until the wee hours.Benkovic from Slovenia – 3 November 2024 (9/10)
Perfect location and very welcoming people. Thank you!

Breakfast was adequate. Location was excellent. So close to Piazza San Marco, main atteactions and the San Zaccaria ferry station. Isabella was very helpful providing us with needed information. She spoke several languages including English and Spanish. The room even had a little terrace.
What could be improved: None that I can think of.Yusuf from Nigeria – 26 October 2024 (8/10)
The hotel is at the most ideal location for Venice as its a short walking distance from the water taxi stop and its a few minutes walk from many tourist attractions. The rooms are comfortable and all facilities work well. There are restaurants all around the hotel with various options for food. The hotel staff were kind and patient to explain best options to move around.
What could be improved: We could not use the airconditioners throughout our stay looks like its centrally controlled and was hot a few times and would have needed the airconditioners to work. I did not like the fact that the hotel determines room temperature contols for paying guest.
