First Impressions

Walking into Hotel Aquarius Venice feels like discovering a well-kept secret in one of Venice‘s most authentic neighborhoods. This four-star property sits right on Campo San Giacomo dell’Orio in Santa Croce, and honestly — the location couldn’t be better. You’re far enough from the tourist madness around San Marco, but close enough that you can easily walk there when you want to. The campo itself is this lovely little square where locals actually hang out, which is rarer than you’d think in Venice.

The Neighborhood Advantage

What I love about this spot is how it puts you in real Venice. Campo San Giacomo dell’Orio has this beautiful old church that most tourists never see, and there are a couple of genuine neighborhood bars where you can grab an aperitivo without paying tourist prices. The Rialto Market is just a few minutes’ walk away — perfect for morning coffee and watching the city wake up. You know what’s really nice? You can actually get lost in these quiet streets and find your way back without crossing a single selfie stick.

The Room Experience

The room here strike that perfect balance between Venetian character and modern comfort. I mean, you’re in a historic building, so don’t expect huge spaces, but everything feels thoughtfully designed. The room I stayed in had these lovely touches — original beamed ceilings and windows that actually opened onto the campo below. The bathroom was compact but well-appointed, and the air conditioning worked perfectly (trust me, this matters in summer). What impressed me most was how quiet everything was, especially considering you’re right in the heart of the city.

Morning Fuel

Breakfast here is actually something to look forward to. They’ve got this buffet setup with proper Italian pastries, fresh fruit, and honestly some of the best coffee I had during my entire Venice trip. The continental options are solid, but they also do vegetarian and gluten-free choices if you need them. You can even grab breakfast to go, which is brilliant if you want to catch the early morning light at the Rialto Bridge. The breakfast room overlooks the campo, so you get to people-watch while you plan your day.

Why Guests Love It

With a 9.2 rating, this place clearly gets something right — and after staying here, I totally understand why. It’s that rare Venice hotel that feels both authentic and comfortable, without trying too hard to be either. The staff genuinely knows the neighborhood and will point you toward the good stuff locals actually use. Plus, couples seem to particularly love it here (they rated the location 9.3), probably because it’s romantic without being touristy. You’re staying in real Venice, not a theme park version of it, and that makes all the difference when you’re trying to fall in love with this impossible, beautiful city.

  Spacious, warm and clean room, exceptionally comfortable bed, modern bathroom and welcome mini bar. Reception staff were extremely friendly, welcoming and knowledgeable. Great breakfast, in eloquent room, with plenty of choice and lovely staff. 15 min walk to Rialto bridge and another 10 mins to the Basilica. Approx 29 min walk to main bus station.
  
  What could be improved: Our room had 2 adjoining doors to 2 other bedrooms so we were impacted by noise in the evening and very early morning when room was vacated.

  Lovely hotel, excellent view of the church from my window. Helpful staff, nice selection for breakfast and it was in a beautiful area, really close the vaperetto stop and away from the crowds at Rialto and St Marks Square. Extra tasty and reasonably priced restaurants nearby too. A marvellous stay, in a clean, luxurious hotel.
  
  What could be improved: Rooms weren't as sound proof as I'd like but it was only bothersome one night when the room next door had a 5am start.

  Fantastic stay at Hotel Aquarius, The room was lovely and the filled mini-bar which could be initially used for free was a lovely bonus. The room was a little small but very clean and the bathroom was quite roomy. The staff were very helpful with recommendations for the city and were very welcoming. The hotel is situated in a lovely little square with a few restaurants and was within a short walking distance from the train station.
  
  What could be improved: We found it hard to control the thermostat in the room using the very modern fittings, some instructions on how to use the system would have helped with this.

  We traveled with teenagers so booked one of the apartments that had 2 bedrooms and bathrooms. The location is excellent, only about a 15-20 min walk to St Mark's Square (if you don't get lost). The rooms were spacious, and having your own kitchen area is handy if you want to cut down on the costs of eating out all the time. We didn't choose to have breakfast included, but there is a Coop shop and lovely local bakery less than 2 mins away.
  
  What could be improved: If you stay in the apartments, your rooms aren't serviced, but you can ask for clean towels. For the price we paid it would be good to have service included too.
