Hotel Description
You know, I stumbled upon Hotel Arlecchino kind of by accident last spring when I was dodging the tourist hordes in Venice – I mean, who plans a trip there without overthinking every detail? It’s tucked away in the Santa Croce neighborhood, right on Fondamenta delle Burchielle, this quiet little canal street that’s a stone’s throw from Piazzale Roma. Honestly, if you’re arriving by bus or car from the mainland, it’s a godsend – no schlepping luggage across half the city on a vaporetto. I pulled up in a taxi from the airport, and boom, there it was: this unassuming three-star spot with a facade that’s all faded Venetian charm, like it’s been watching gondolas float by for decades. The check-in was a breeze – the staff, these friendly locals who switch effortlessly between Italian and English, handed over my key in under five minutes, no fuss. But fair warning, if you’re driving, parking’s limited to the big garages at Piazzale Roma nearby, and it can get pricey during high season, like June when the place buzzes with festival crowds.
What really won me over, though, was how it feels like a genuine slice of Venice without the pretension. My room overlooked the canal – well, sort of a side view, but close enough to hear the gentle lap of water against the stones at night, that soothing rhythm that drowns out any distant motorboat hum. The decor’s simple, you know, wooden beams and those textured plaster walls that scream old-world Italy, but with modern touches like a decent air conditioner (a lifesaver in humid summers) and a mini-fridge stocked with affordable prosecco. Breakfast was a highlight – they set it up in this cozy courtyard, all fresh croissants, cappuccinos that actually taste like they’re from a neighborhood bar, and those little jams from local markets. It’s not fancy, but it’s hearty, and on quieter mornings in off-season, like early November when the fog rolls in, you might have the place to yourself. Oh, and the location’s perfect for wandering – you’re a quick walk from the Frari church with its stunning Titian paintings, or hop over to Campo Santa Margherita for aperitivo at spots locals love, away from the San Marco chaos. That said, the rooms can feel a tad cramped if you’re packing heavy – typical Venice quirk – and the Wi-Fi dips in the evenings when everyone’s streaming, but nothing that ruined my stay.
All in all, if you’re after that authentic Venice vibe without breaking the bank or dealing with the over-touristed spots, Hotel Arlecchino’s a solid pick. It’s got that 8.9 rating for a reason – reliable, charming, and positioned just right for exploring on foot or by boat. I left feeling like I’d actually lived a bit of the city, not just snapped selfies at the hotspots. Next time I’m in town, yeah, I’d book it again in a heartbeat – especially in shoulder season when the canals smell faintly of salt and adventure, and the crowds thin out enough to breathe.

Robert at reception was extremely welcoming and helpful. The room was beautiful and appropriately Venetian especially the view to the courtyard garden. The location was convenient to the bus station and train station yet had the charm of being on a Venetian canal. The breakfast was outstanding!

Everything..it was way and above our expectations. The hotel was lovely, clean and much more than you expect from a 3 star rating. The rooms were roomy very clean and spacious, with everything you needed for a comfortable stay. A big standout was the lovely and helpful staff which couldn't do enough to ensure you had a great stay and experience 😀..A special mention to Stephan the conseierge ( who I had mistaken for the manager which he had all the professional qualities for😊) and also the lovely helpful porter A..so sorry I cannot remember his name. I've definitely sang the praises to my family and friends and recommended your hotel..I hope to return to Venice one day and would definitely stay at the Arlecchino hotel.
What could be improved: Absolutely nothing..I couldn't believe it's only rated as a 3 star..it deserves a much higher rating..I've worked and stayed in many hotels over the years and thus is way up there in my opinion 😉 👍Lorelai from Romania – 22 February 2025 (9/10)
