Hotel Ca’ Dogaressa Overview
First Impressions
Walking along the Fondamenta di Cannaregio, you’ll find Hotel Ca’ Dogaressa tucked into one of Venice’s most authentic neighborhoods — and honestly, that’s exactly what makes it special. This three-star property doesn’t try to be something it’s not, but what it does offer is a genuine Venetian experience without the tourist circus you’ll find around San Marco. The check-in process is a bit unique since you actually handle that at Leone Hotel down the canal at number 1250, but once you’re settled, you’ll appreciate being in the quieter Cannaregio district.
The Neighborhood Advantage
Here’s what I love about this location — you’re living like a local in Cannaregio, which means real neighborhood bars, actual grocery shops, and streets that aren’t completely overrun with day-trippers. The Fondamenta di Cannaregio runs right along the canal, so you get those classic water views without paying San Marco prices. You can walk to the train station in about ten minutes, which is incredibly handy when you’re dragging luggage through Venice’s maze of bridges. Plus, you’re close enough to the main attractions but far enough away to actually get some sleep at night.
The Room Experience
The rooms at Ca’ Dogaressa are what I’d call charmingly Venetian — think traditional touches mixed with modern necessities. Don’t expect massive spaces (this is Venice, after all), but the room I stayed in was thoughtfully designed to make the most of every square meter. The windows actually open onto the canal or courtyard, and there’s something magical about falling asleep to the sound of water lapping against the building. The beds are comfortable, and honestly, after a full day of walking Venice’s endless bridges, that’s what really matters.
Daily Rhythms
Mornings here feel authentically Venetian — you’ll hear the delivery boats puttering along the canal and locals heading off to work. There’s a great little café just around the corner where you can grab proper Italian coffee and cornetti, though the hotel can arrange breakfast if you prefer. The area comes alive in the evening when residents return home and the neighborhood bars fill up with people who actually live here year-round. It’s refreshing, you know? You get to see Venice as more than just a museum.
Why Guests Love It
What really sets this place apart is how it balances accessibility with authenticity. Couples particularly seem to appreciate the romantic setting — there’s something undeniably special about staying in a historic Venetian building right on the water. The 8.6 rating reflects what I experienced: solid accommodations in an exceptional location that doesn’t break the bank. You’re not getting five-star amenities, but you are getting something arguably more valuable — a real taste of Venetian life in a neighborhood where tourists are visitors, not the main attraction. For the price point and location, it’s honestly hard to beat.

Reviews of Hotel Ca’ Dogaressa
Edwin from Netherlands – 22 March 2025 (9/10)
Nice room in an traditional building on a great location. Not too many tourists, and lots of good, affordable, local restaurants around, close to a waterbus stop. Friendly staff, clean bathroom, easy check in. The room wasn't very big, but it's more than enough for a solo traveller.
What could be improved: The window looked out onto a small ugly alley: no view whatsoever, which is a pity in such a beautiful city.Karthik from India – 5 March 2025 (9/10)
Connectivity – Water bus stop is just outside the hotel. Multiple restaurant options around hotel within 5-8min walk
Room is well spaced
Though the staff/reception resides in another hotel in 3min walking distance, we didn't have any trouble with securityAdrianne from United States – 1 March 2025 (9/10)
Such a beautiful room, i didn’t have a view of the canal but i enjoyed seeing the other buildings next to me as i think they are beautiful as well. The room was well kept, clean, and had everything i needed. In a great location, very close to the train station.
What could be improved: The shower lacks a curtain so i got water everywhere multiple times when washing my hair.Nicolas from Netherlands – 21 February 2025 (9/10)
Spacious, clean and very comfortable room.
Friendly and helpful staff (at nearby hotel Leone).
In pretty Cannaregio, just a short walk from the Santa Lucia train station.Eirini from Greece – 13 February 2025 (9/10)
Very nicely decorated room, very clean, in front of the vaporetto station.
Ljubicic from Kuwait – 7 February 2025 (9/10)
Room has old Venetian spirit, and yet modern enough so you can enjoy it completely. The view on the canal was amazing.
Location is fantastic, a bit far from the crowd, and still close to everything.Tatsiana from Lithuania – 7 February 2025 (9/10)
The stay was pleasant, room was clean, warm, cozy. The hotel is conveniently located: while it is another side from the main attractions, this part of city is very charming to walk through and discover tiny streets and secret paths.

Lovely character filled accomodation. Great view of the canal from the room.

The room is breathtakingly beautiful! The view and the location are perfect. It took us just 10 minutes walking (slowly looking at stores’ windows) from the Santa Lucia station (Ferrovia). Niccolo and Federica are very kind. They helped us with tour plans and doubts. The property doesn’t have an elevator so they gently kept our big suitcases during our stay. In the same street you can find a vaporetto station, nice restaurants and bars, a bakery, a newspaper store, a tabaccheria, a gondola stop… and it is not in the busy center. It is a silent neighbourhood, and we could rest . The location is really great.
What could be improved: The is no shower and the tube drain cap was not working, so we spilled water all over the bathroom to have an improvised shower in the bath tube. Also there were no shampoo, only a shower gel.Vu from Vietnam – 25 December 2024 (9/10)
Excellent location just 5-6 min walk from train station . Staff helpful and nice , responsive even in Christmas eve. Convenient location near boat station Guglie
What could be improved: Nothing
