Hotel Description
Nestled in the historic Castello district of Venice, the 3-star Hotel Canaletto offers travelers an authentic Venetian experience combined with comfortable accommodations. With an impressive guest rating of 8.6, this well-reviewed establishment has earned its reputation as a preferred choice for visitors seeking to immerse themselves in the timeless charm of Italy’s floating city. Located at Castello 5487 San Lio, the hotel enjoys a privileged position in one of Venice’s most characteristic neighborhoods, providing guests with convenient access to the city’s maze of canals, hidden squares, and architectural marvels. The Castello district, one of Venice’s largest and most diverse sestieri (districts), strikes a perfect balance between tourist attractions and local Venetian life, allowing guests to experience both the iconic landmarks and the authentic rhythms of everyday Venice.
Hotel Canaletto is strategically situated near the San Lio canal, just a short stroll from many of Venice’s most celebrated attractions. The magnificent St. Mark’s Square (Piazza San Marco) and its Byzantine basilica lie within comfortable walking distance, allowing guests to easily visit this iconic landmark and enjoy its atmospheric cafés and orchestras. The famed Rialto Bridge, Venice’s oldest and most recognizable bridge spanning the Grand Canal, is also nearby, offering exceptional photo opportunities and access to the vibrant Rialto Market where locals shop for fresh produce, seafood, and Venetian specialties. Art enthusiasts will appreciate the hotel’s proximity to the Gallerie dell’Accademia with its extraordinary collection of pre-19th-century Venetian paintings, while the Peggy Guggenheim Collection, housing modern masterpieces, is accessible via a pleasant walk or a scenic vaporetto (water bus) ride. The hotel’s position in the Castello district also places guests near less-frequented but equally fascinating sites such as the Arsenale, Venice’s historic shipyard, and the beautiful gardens of the Biennale exhibition spaces.
Beyond its excellent location, Hotel Canaletto’s strong 8.6 rating speaks to its commitment to guest satisfaction and quality service. This three-star property embodies the intimate charm characteristic of Venetian accommodations, where historic architecture blends with thoughtful amenities to create a memorable stay. While maintaining the architectural integrity and aesthetic heritage of Venice, the hotel offers modern comforts that today’s travelers expect. The accommodations typically feature traditional Venetian décor elements such as Murano glass fixtures, rich fabrics, and classic furnishings that transport guests to a bygone era of Venetian splendor. From the moment guests arrive, they are welcomed into an atmosphere that honors Venice’s illustrious past while providing the conveniences necessary for a comfortable stay. Whether using the hotel as a serene retreat after a day of sightseeing or as a base for exploring Venice’s labyrinthine streets and waterways, Hotel Canaletto serves as an ideal home away from home in one of the world’s most enchanting cities, where every corner reveals a new visual delight and every canal whispers stories of centuries past.

Rooms was shockingly quiet. It has clearly undergone a recent renovation on the rooms and they were gorgeous and comfortable. The hotel staff were so kind and helped with breakfast gluten free options.

The room was a fabulous renovation in an old premises. Location was excellent for San Marco and Rialto. Looked out over a canal which was lovel.
What could be improved: Just a small chest of drawers would have been useful in the room.Richard from United Kingdom – 28 February 2025 (9/10)
Ideally situated for St Marks Square and for Rialto Bridge. Surrounded by great restaurants and easy to get everywhere.
Room was newly refurbished and bed was really comfortable.
Staff were helpful, polite, professional and friendly
What could be improved: Hard to say as it was fantastic, the only thing and they can’t solve it, was it could be a little cramped around for breakfast depending on timing. However they do allow an extended time for breakfast to helpMk from United Kingdom – 16 February 2025 (9/10)
The best things in the hotel is Lara
She is very nice and gave me the best service ever
I really appreciate her helpChristian from Italy – 13 February 2025 (9/10)
Great location a few steps from San Marco and Rialto. Very friendly and personal staff. When we had a problem it was fixed immediately. Rooms have typical Venetian Decor. Bathrooms was newly renovated. Very clean.
What could be improved: Of course depending on the room and price class: Our room was relatively small and dark.Tiziana from Malta – 3 February 2025 (9/10)
A clean room and comfortable beds. Ample choice for breakfast including fresh fruit, cereals, coffee, eggs, bread, cold cuts, etc. The only downfall was that I would have loved to stay in the Venetian style rooms on the first floor. However the decor on the second floor was nice, modern and most importantly clean. Staff was helpful too.

I think this is the best part of Venice to stay in; near everything but a quiter part of the centre. I'd thoroughly recommend room 132 because it has a canal view. It's really lovely to open the huge windows in the morning and look out over this small bit of water with a lovely little bridge. Personally, I like the Venetian style of furniture in the rooms; this is one of the few places where it feels appropriate rather than silly, so enjoy it. All the staff here are lovely and it's our second time staying.

Location could not have been better! It is literally 5 minutes from Piazza San Marco and so lovely and quiet. The rooms are really characteristic and comfortable – everything you need. It is quaint, lovely breakfast and so easy to get everywhere from this spot. Really lovely staff – can recommend!
What could be improved: This is not a criticism but there are lots of stairs to get to rooms and different levels in our room too which we loved. If you can't navigate lots of steps then say when you are booking.
