You can walk to the Doge’s Palace in about ten minutes, yet when you step outside House 5286, you’ll see actual Venetians going about their daily lives. The narrow alleyways here lead to hidden squares where kids play football and elderly men sit reading newspapers. Couples especially seem to get this — they’ve rated the location 9.5 for romantic getaways, and I can see why.

The Rooms

The beds here are genuinely comfortable — and I mean that as someone who’s slept on plenty of rock-hard European hotel mattresses. There’s something about sinking into these beds after a long day of walking Venice’s endless bridges that just works. The rooms themselves have that lived-in Italian elegance, with original details that remind you you’re sleeping in a piece of history. Nothing feels overly renovated or sterile, which can be a problem with some Venice accommodations that try too hard to modernize historic spaces.

What strikes me about staying at House 5286 is how it lets you experience Venice like a temporary resident rather than just another tourist. You’ll discover the local bacaro (wine bar) around the corner where the bartender remembers your order by the third night.   Fantastic views in several directions. The apartment is large, clean and well equipped. Hosts were really kind and helpful. There are 88 steps but a number of landings to rest if needed but if you’re fairly active then it’s fine (good exercise!)

  The location was amazing and quiet considering it's only (approx) a 5mins walk to the Piazza San Marco (St Mark's Square). The apartment was comfortable and spotless in all areas with a superb view of St Mark's Bell Tower.
  Frederico, Leonardo and Darios were very helpful throughout our stay with any requests especially suggestions for restaurants. When we checked in they thoughtfully presented a bottle of prosecco to my husband for his 60th birthday!
  We even got used to the many steps you have to take to reach this lovely 4th floor apartment! (Take their advice when you confirm your booking with them and don't pack heavy cases!)
