Appartamento S. Maurizio – Venezia Overview
First Impressions
Walking through the narrow calle to reach Appartamento S. Maurizio – Venezia, you’ll immediately understand why this three-star property has such devoted fans. The building sits right in the thick of San Marco — I mean, you’re literally steps from St. Mark’s Square without the crushing tourist chaos directly outside your door. It’s one of those classic Venetian conversions where they’ve taken a historic palazzo and turned it into intimate accommodations, and honestly, the location alone makes it worth considering.
The Heart of Venice
What strikes you about this place is how genuinely central it is without feeling like a tourist trap. You’re on Calle del Dose da Ponte, which sounds fancy but is actually just a typical Venetian street name — though this particular street happens to put you within a five-minute walk of the Doge’s Palace and the Bridge of Sighs. The couples who stay here consistently rave about being able to duck back for afternoon breaks between sightseeing, then slip out for evening aperitivos without any complicated water taxi rides. You know what’s really nice? You can actually find the place without getting lost in Venice’s maze of streets, which is saying something.
The Apartment Experience
The rooms feel more like staying in a Venetian friend’s apartment than a typical hotel — which makes sense given the name. There’s something refreshing about having actual space to spread out your things and settle in properly. The interiors blend that classic Venetian charm you’d expect with modern touches that actually work (reliable WiFi, decent shower pressure, that sort of thing). I particularly appreciated having a proper area to sit and plan the day’s adventures, rather than perching on the edge of a bed like you do in so many cramped Venice hotels.
Daily Rhythms
Mornings here have a lovely rhythm — you can grab coffee at one of the nearby cafes that locals actually frequent, rather than the overpriced tourist spots closer to the main square. The neighborhood comes alive early with Venetians heading to work, which gives you a glimpse of the city beyond its postcard image. Evenings are equally special; when the day-trippers head back to their cruise ships or mainland hotels, you get to experience Venice as it settles into its quieter, more authentic self. The nearby bacari (those little wine bars Venice does so well) become your evening haunts.
Why Guests Love It
The 8.5 rating really reflects what this place does best — it puts you right where you want to be without breaking the bank or sacrificing comfort. Couples especially seem to appreciate having a proper base in the city center where they can retreat and regroup. It’s not trying to be the fanciest place in Venice, but it delivers on the fundamentals: great location, comfortable accommodations, and that indefinable feeling of actually staying in Venice rather than just visiting it. When you’re paying Venice prices anyway, getting this much location for a three-star rate feels like you’ve cracked some sort of code.
Venice’s apartments welcome families with vaporetto passes, kitchenettes for market hauls, and bridges leading to Lido playgrounds.

Reviews of Appartamento S. Maurizio – Venezia
Anna from Australia – 26 October 2024 (7/10)
it felt very venetian with the painted walls! location was excellent, it was comfortable and clean
What could be improved: it was a little smaller than how the photos made it look. it was quite dark inside not being able to open the shutters. No fly wire so we couldn't let fresh air in as mosquitos came in. it didn't completely meet our expectations…Juliet from United Kingdom – 19 September 2024 (9/10)
Apartment was very comfortable, clean and very central. Ideal drop off for a water taxi literally a few yards from the grand canal.
What could be improved: Large shower didn't work too well, it had a mind of its own ! But that was minor, still really really enjoyed our stay and would book here againHannah from Canada – 15 September 2024 (8/10)
