La Vida by Venicevillas Overview
First Impressions
Walking down Calle de la Vida in Castello, you might almost miss La Vida by Venicevillas if you’re not paying attention — and honestly, that’s part of its charm. This three-star property sits quietly in one of Venice’s most authentic neighborhoods, away from the tourist chaos but still incredibly well-connected. The moment you step inside, there’s this immediate sense of relief — like you’ve found your own little corner of the city that actually feels livable.
The Castello Advantage
Here’s what I love about staying in Castello — you’re living where actual Venetians live, not just passing through their city. The location score of 9.7 isn’t just numbers on a screen; it means you can walk to San Marco in about ten minutes when you want the iconic stuff, but you can also grab your morning coffee at the corner bar where the barista remembers your order. Couples especially seem to get this balance — there’s something romantic about having your own quiet street to return to after a day of exploring. You know what really sold me on the area? The fact that you’ll hear Italian conversations on the street, not just tour guides with megaphones.
Your Home Base
The room I stayed in was exactly what you’d expect from a solid three-star in Venice — clean, comfortable, and thoughtfully designed without trying too hard. These aren’t palatial suites, but they’re genuine and well-maintained spaces that feel more like a friend’s guest room than a hotel box. The beds are actually comfortable (not always a given in Venice), and there’s enough storage space for a week’s worth of clothes without living out of your suitcase. What impressed me most was the attention to small details — good lighting for reading, proper blackout curtains, and windows that actually open to let in that canal breeze.
Living Like a Local
One thing that sets La Vida apart is how it connects you to the neighborhood rhythm. There’s a fantastic local restaurant literally around the corner that serves the kind of cicchetti you’d never find near the Rialto, and the morning passeggiata along the nearby fondamenta becomes part of your daily routine. I mean, you’re staying in a residential area where people actually hang their laundry between buildings and kids play football in the campos — it’s Venice as it’s meant to be experienced, not just photographed.
Why Guests Love It
The 8.6 rating makes perfect sense once you spend a few days here. It’s not trying to be something it’s not — this is genuine hospitality in a city where that’s increasingly rare. The staff actually knows the neighborhood and can point you toward experiences that feel authentic rather than touristy. Plus, there’s something to be said for staying somewhere that couples consistently rate so highly for location — it means you’ve found that sweet spot between accessibility and tranquility that makes Venice magical rather than overwhelming.
Hotel in Venice reservations spike before Redentore fireworks when the lagoon fills with floating dinners.

What could be improved: Only informed about the key code after we called the office. Would have appreciated an earlier check-in for an older couple.

It's very close from water taxis
What could be improved: Everything was goodLibe from Spain – 11 October 2024 (8/10)
Ubicación, muy cómoda y limpia.
What could be improved: Hacia un poco de frío.Matthew from Australia – 13 June 2024 (7/10)
There was no breakfast included, the location we found to be great, easy access to water buses and taxis, easy walks to St Marcs and Rialto bridge.
What could be improved: The hot water system didn't work in the kitchen, which was reported but not rectified in the 5 days we were there. The coffee percolator had been burnt and was not usable, asked for a replacement but nothing was done about it. For a self contained apartment there were no tea towels to dry dishes and the smart TV did not load Netflix, just froze and didn't allow any selection of movies, also reported but nothing done about it. we travelled half way around the world for this stay in Venice, very disappointing to have an apartment that had no checks and balances between tenants. The issues we had would have been experienced by the previous tenants no doubt, but not checked prior to us entering.Assunção from Brazil – 29 May 2024 (9/10)

What could be improved: A large vertical mirror for putting on makeup or changing clothesNaomi from United States – 12 April 2024 (9/10)
The property had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. The things provided were very well thought out. From the fully stocked kitchen and bathroom to the washer and dryer. The property was also very clean and conveniently located. It’s just far enough away from all the noise but close enough to walk to the major tourist spots. It was one stop away from the major tourist attractions. It’s also a two minute walk from the water taxi, which is very nice and convenient to get around including to and from the airport. The price is also unbeatable! The staff was friendly and answered all my questions.
What could be improved: Through no fault of the staff and host, it smelled musty. Maybe the people before us smoked or it could be because the building is old? We had to take out our own trash, which was very inconvenient. Luckily we didn’t have much trash to throw away.Wendy from United Kingdom – 13 February 2024 (9/10)
Absolutely everything! It was sparkling clean. It was so welcoming when I opened the door, the under floor heating was so comfortable in February. The plaster wall designs in the bedroom & the minimalist style really appealed to me. It had everything I needed to self cater.
What could be improved: Just one tiny little thing- I would have liked a wine glass or two!Shawna from Canada – 2 July 2023 (9/10)
The location was great. Quiet neighbourhood directly across from Arsenale Station. Good access to all Venice has to offer. Clean and well kept. Washing machine and dryer a bonus. Kitchen space great for a longer stay.
What could be improved: Garbage removal was renters responsibility or possibility of fine. This was not mentioned in the literature read previous to booking and although the hosts were helpful about disposal, the schedule did not work with our touring schedule. Please put garbage removal into bookings.com literature.
