La Casetta di Foscolo by Venicevillas Overview
First Impressions
Walking through the narrow streets of Castello to find La Casetta di Foscolo by Venicevillas, you’ll pass locals hanging laundry from ancient windows and the occasional cat sunning itself on weathered stone steps. This three-star property sits tucked away in what’s honestly one of Venice’s most authentic neighborhoods — the kind of spot where you hear more Italian than English echoing off the canal walls. The entrance feels refreshingly residential rather than touristy, which I mean, is exactly what you want when you’re trying to experience Venice like someone who actually lives here.
Location & Neighborhood
Here’s the thing about Castello — it’s got that perfect balance of being central but not completely overrun with tour groups. You’re walking distance from San Marco (maybe 10 minutes if you don’t get lost in the maze of bridges), but you’re also in a neighborhood where Venetians actually go about their daily lives. There’s a fantastic little bakery around the corner that opens early, and the nearby Giardini area gives you some much-needed green space when all those stone streets start feeling overwhelming. The location score of 9.5 makes total sense once you realize you can easily reach the major sights while retreating to this quieter corner when you need a break.
The Space
La Casetta di Foscolo feels more like staying in a well-appointed Venetian apartment than a typical hotel room. The space has that lived-in charm you get in converted historic buildings — think original beamed ceilings and windows that frame actual slice-of-life canal views rather than postcard shots. It’s not huge (this is Venice, after all), but everything’s thoughtfully arranged so you don’t feel cramped. The kitchen setup is particularly nice if you want to grab fresh ingredients from the Rialto market and actually cook something, which honestly beats eating tourist-trap pasta every single night.
Daily Rhythms
What I really appreciated was how the place lets you settle into a more natural Venice rhythm. You can make coffee in the morning and plan your day without rushing to a hotel breakfast room, then come back in the afternoon when your feet are screaming from all those bridges. The neighborhood gets beautifully quiet in the evenings — you know, when the day-trippers head back to their cruise ships and the real Venice emerges. It’s the kind of setup where you might find yourself sitting by the window with a glass of wine, watching the light change on the canal and feeling like you’ve discovered something special.
Why Guests Love It
Couples particularly seem to connect with this place, and I get why — there’s something romantic about having your own little corner of Venice rather than being just another room in a big hotel. The combination of authentic neighborhood life and easy access to the main attractions hits that sweet spot most travelers are looking for. You’re not sacrificing convenience for character or vice versa. Plus, when you tell people you stayed in Castello rather than right on the tourist trail, you sound like you actually know Venice a bit, which honestly feels pretty good.
Venice’s apartments welcome families with vaporetto passes, kitchenettes for market hauls, and bridges leading to Lido playgrounds.

After check in process ended around 10:35pm, the check in clerk kindly accompanied me to a local take-out pizza store to get the quick dinner. This thoughtful gesture was much appreciated, especially given how tired and hungry we were. His willingness to help us find food late at night made a significant difference to our evening. His kindness deserves recognition.
What could be improved: Our recent stay at "La Casetta di Foscolo by Venicevillas" was highly disappointing. Here are the main issues we encountered:
Misleading Location: The location listed on the website was inaccurate. The real location is " Rielo Dei Fu, 3219, Castello, 30122". The apartment was much further compared to the address listed on the website. We felt misled by the misleading information on the website.
Poor Living Conditions: The apartment was on the ground level, making it extremely dark and humid with no sunlight at all. It was infested with mosquitos, making our stay uncomfortable and unpleasant. If you enjoy feeding mosquitos, this is the place for you!
Terrible Check-In Process: We arrived slightly later than the scheduled check-in time (9:40 PM instead of 9:30 PM) and contacted the property around 9:25 PM to inform them of our arrival. Despite being told that the check-in clerk would be waiting for us, no one was there when we arrived. We waited outside for 20 minutes until the clerk arrived at 10:02 PM. The check-in process was conducted on the street, without any sitting area for my husband and kids, and took about 30 minutes to complete. By the time we were allowed inside the apartment, it was 10:35 PM. This was unacceptable after a long day of travel.
Unfriendly Checkout: The checkout experience was equally unpleasant. The cleaning lady had a hostile attitude and rudely insisted that we take all the trash out of the apartment, making us feel like we owed her something. She warned us not to leave any trash inside, which left a bad impression.
Inconvenient Luggage Policy: The property does not provide a place to deposit luggage after the 10 AM checkout time. We had a late flight and had to drag our luggage around the island, which was extremely inconvenient and tiring.
Overall, our experience was far from satisfactory, and I would not recommend this place to anyone.Kane from United Kingdom – 29 January 2024 (9/10)

Very well furnished apartment for short stays in Venice. It has all the necessary kitchen appliances, good pressure shower, comfortable big bed, iron, vacuum cleaner, and a lot of storage place. Heating and air-conditioning was also available. Very good location, away from the tourist crowds. The apartment is very close to the shop (5 mins away), thus it was easy to carry groceries.
What could be improved: The moldy smell was sometimes overwhelming. Although in the main area (bedroom and kitchen) it was possible to eliminate it, the other more sheltered from the windows parts of the apartment were still smelling mold.Birgit from Germany – 29 October 2023 (8/10)
