Hotel Description

I remember stumbling upon La Veneziana Boutique Rooms almost by accident during one of those misty Venetian mornings last spring – you know, when the canals are still quiet and the tourists haven’t fully descended yet. I’d just hopped off the vaporetto at San Zaccaria, dodging the usual crowds spilling out from St. Mark’s Square, and decided to wander through Castello instead of fighting my way through the hordes. Ruga Giuffa is this narrow little alley – well, more like a calle, really – tucked away in the heart of Castello, just a stone’s throw from Campo Santa Maria Formosa, where locals grab their morning espresso at that unassuming bar with the best cornetti in the neighborhood. Honestly, finding the place felt like discovering a secret; no flashy signs, just a discreet door that opens into this cozy reception area smelling faintly of old wood and fresh linen. Check-in was a breeze – the owner, this warm Italian guy named Marco (I think?), chatted with me about the best routes to avoid the cruise ship crowds, and before I knew it, I was up the creaky stairs to my room. No elevator, mind you, which might be a drag if you’re hauling heavy bags, but hey, it’s Venice – everything’s a bit of a workout here.

What really won me over, though, were the rooms themselves – boutique in the truest sense, like stepping into a slice of old Venice without the kitsch. Mine had these exposed wooden beams overhead, sort of rustic and charming, with walls painted in soft blues that echoed the lagoon outside. The bed was ridiculously comfortable, piled with pillows that actually felt like they were chosen for sleep, not just show, and there was this little balcony overlooking the calle below – perfect for sipping a spritz at dusk while listening to the distant hum of boats on the Rio di San Provolo. It’s only a 3-star spot, but with that 9.6 rating, you can tell they’ve poured heart into the details: fresh flowers in the vase, a minibar stocked with local prosecco (not the touristy stuff), and bathrooms that are spotless, with those rain showers that make you forget the occasional street noise filtering up at night. I mean, Castello gets lively around dinner time with folks heading to hidden osterie like that one on Salizada San Lio for cicchetti, but by midnight, it’s blissfully quiet – a far cry from the non-stop buzz in San Marco. Oh, and parking? Forget it; Venice is car-free, so you’re walking or boating everywhere, but that’s part of the magic, right?

Look, if you’re after that authentic Venetian vibe without breaking the bank or dealing with over-the-top luxury, La Veneziana is a gem. It’s close enough to the big sights – a quick 10-minute stroll to the Rialto Bridge or the Doge’s Palace – but far enough to feel like you’re living like a local, maybe popping into the nearby Libreria Acqua Alta for some quirky book browsing. Sure, the rooms are on the smaller side, as Venetian spots tend to be, and if you’re traveling in high summer, book early because it fills up fast with repeat visitors. But honestly, waking up to the sound of church bells from Santa Maria Formosa and that faint salty breeze? It made my trip. I’d go back in a heartbeat – you should too, especially if you want Venice to feel personal, not just picturesque.

What a great place! Staying in the La Veneziana boutique rooms made our holiday additionally enjoyable. We loved our room! It is the place for us to stay when we go back. Great location, not too far from Rialto and San Marco, but very quite. The size of our room and bathroom was very good, nice chairs, very comfortable bed, fabulously decorated room. Hotel staff was amazing. Specially our thanks to Simona, who greeted us on our first day. All of staff was very helpful and professional. Thank you very much for such a great hospitality. Our complementary breakfasts were amazing. It was a great start of the day for us with tea, coffee, warm croissants, jam, juice. Water in the fridge was very welcome as well. The property does not have a lift, but it was not a problem for us. (This information was given on description anyway). The room was very clean. Thanks to our cleaning lady (sorry, did not ask her name). Thank you very much!
