Palazzetto San Lio, Rialto Overview
First Impressions
Walking through the narrow Venetian streets to find Palazzetto San Lio, Rialto feels like a treasure hunt — and honestly, that’s part of the charm. This three-star property sits tucked away on Calle del Frutariol in Castello, but don’t let the winding path fool you into thinking it’s remote. You’re actually in the absolute heart of Venice, which becomes crystal clear once you start exploring the neighborhood. The building itself showcases traditional Venetian architecture with its historic facade and charming entrance that immediately transports you into the authentic atmosphere of this magical city.
Location Magic
When couples rate the location 9.6 out of 10, you know something special is happening here. The Rialto Bridge is practically on your doorstep — we’re talking a genuine two-minute stroll through authentic Venetian backstreets. What I love about this spot is how it manages to be central without feeling touristy. You’ll find yourself weaving through local markets in the morning, then stepping onto the Grand Canal whenever you want that postcard moment. San Marco Square is close enough for evening aperitivos, but far enough that you won’t hear the crowds from your room. The strategic position allows easy access to water taxis and vaporetto stops for exploring the outer islands.
The Accommodation Experience
The rooms here have that authentic Venetian character — think exposed beams and traditional touches rather than modern minimalism. It’s a three-star property, so you’re getting solid comfort without excessive pricing. The spaces feel intimate (this is Venice, after all, where even palazzos have cozy proportions), but they’re thoughtfully designed to make the most of every square meter. What really works is how quiet it stays at night, despite being so centrally located. Each accommodation features carefully selected furnishings that blend historical charm with modern comfort, creating an atmosphere that feels both authentic and welcoming.
Neighborhood Discoveries
Here’s what you probably won’t read elsewhere — the little campo nearby becomes this lovely local gathering spot in the evenings. There’s a small restaurant around the corner that serves incredible cicchetti, and the morning market scene is absolutely authentic. You can grab fresh pastries for breakfast and eat them by the canal, watching the city wake up. The whole Castello district has this lived-in feeling that makes you feel less like a tourist and more like a temporary resident. Local artisan shops line the nearby streets, offering unique Venetian crafts and traditional glasswork that you won’t find in the more touristy areas.
Why Guests Love It
Honestly, it comes down to location and value. You’re staying in prime Venice real estate without paying premium prices. The 7.3 rating reflects exactly what this place delivers — solid, comfortable accommodation in an absolutely stellar location. Couples especially seem to get it (hence that 9.6 location score), probably because there’s something genuinely romantic about having your own little corner of Venice to retreat to. The property might not have all the bells and whistles of a high-end hotel, but when you can step outside and be immediately immersed in authentic Venetian life, those extras become pretty irrelevant. It’s the kind of place where the city itself becomes your amenity, offering experiences that no hotel facility could replicate.
Early hotels booking in Venice secures balcony seats for Vogalonga regattas and torchlit basilica tours.

Reviews of Palazzetto San Lio, Rialto

I like the high level of attention
What could be improved: It was all good. I made a mistake of staying on a ground floor, something I requested. My advice: while in Venice, try to always get top floor. The city of Venice is filled with mold, not something about this hotel specifically. Internet tends to be also very limited…Fiona from United Kingdom – 20 October 2024 (8/10)
Picturesque traditional building with ground floor apartment on a canal with views along the water. Great location close to main square and excellent restaurants nearby.
What could be improved: Difficult to find, no indication on building that it was not a private dwelling. I missed the emails (travelling) explaining that copies of passports for all guests were required before details of access to apartment would be provided. Took some time to sort out. No in-person contact emails only.Jasmine from United Kingdom – 24 September 2024 (8/10)
We enjoyed the stay a lot the location was quite decent not far at all from the centre. Beautiful room and very comfy bed. We had a lovely stay and if we did come to venice we would probably stay again.
What could be improved: It was expensive but I'm pretty sure it wasn't too bad for Venice I think everywhere is expensive it was probably worth it as the quality was good.Janeg35 from United Kingdom – 28 June 2024 (8/10)
Great size apartment in a location that is close to everything, at a great price. The flower boxes and canal views. The complimentary bottle of wine and access to a great selection of other wines was a lovely touch. Staff were very responsive and easy to deal with. We had a great stay and glad we picked this place.
What could be improved: The wallpaper was slightly stained, and the kitchen could have been better equipped. For example, the moka pot was not very clean and there was only one mug. As a light sleeper I needed ear plugs for the early morning canal noises. But these were all minor things we could very much put up with because of all the plus points.Alan from United Kingdom – 31 January 2024 (8/10)
Lovely quaint apartment furnished in a traditional manner.
Lovely and clean and warm
What could be improved: Beds were comfy enough but lacked supportStephen from Portugal – 5 December 2023 (8/10)
The location is central to the main tourist sights. It was quiet at night. It was very tastefully finished inside in a classic style and the hosts left a complimentary bottle of wine.
What could be improved: There was not a proper check-in process. On booking.com we were told that we would pay in full including cleaning and the city tax but we had to make a separate appointment to pay these last two charges in cash. This was inconvenient to us.
There was some discussion on heating as it it only available for eleven hours each day and as it was late November it was cold at times.
The wi-fi was very bad. Replacement towels had holes in them.
Finally, there were a few small niggles like no bed-side tables, some blown bulbs, lack of sockets in the bedroom, a broken shower head, some weird dust in the bathroom, and a slightly broken bed. Nothing to detract too much from our stay but none-the-less these should be taken care of.Bianca from Romania – 2 October 2023 (7/10)
The location near San Marco and the living room.
What could be improved: The bathroom, the water shower didn t sink.Monique from South Africa – 15 September 2023 (8/10)
Location, open space, staff was nice, entrance was easy.
What could be improved: No cutlery, and the shower was not draining fast thus flowing over.Richard from United Kingdom – 23 February 2023 (8/10)
Location, Spacious, Wine rack choice (at a good price).
What could be improved: Could have done with a mobile contact number as travelling, it isn't always easy to find your way around and achieve your meeting time (even though we were on time, could have been 1/2 hour either way).Iara from Bulgaria – 27 April 2022 (8/10)
What could be improved: Difficulties to get the invoice for the stay.
