Palazzo Boldù – Ca’ Colombina Overview
First Impressions
Walking up to Palazzo Boldù – Ca’ Colombina feels like stumbling upon Venice’s best-kept secret. This three-star gem sits tucked away on Calle Lunga Santa Maria Formosa, and honestly, the entrance is so understated you might walk right past it — which is actually part of its charm. The building itself is a genuine 16th-century palazzo, and you can tell the owners have put real thought into preserving its character while making it work as a modern hotel. There’s something refreshing about finding a place that doesn’t try too hard to impress you right off the bat.
Location & Neighborhood
You know what’s brilliant about this spot? It’s in Castello, which means you’re genuinely in the heart of Venice without being stuck in the tourist chaos around San Marco. I mean, you can walk to St. Mark’s Square in about eight minutes, but you’re also surrounded by actual Venetian life — local bars, neighborhood shops, and Campo Santa Maria Formosa right around the corner. The location score of 9.7 makes perfect sense when you realize you can easily reach the Rialto Bridge, Doge’s Palace, and all the major sights on foot, yet retreat to this quieter pocket when you need a breather from the crowds.
The Rooms
The rooms at Palazzo Boldù – Ca’ Colombina strike that perfect balance between historic charm and modern comfort. Each one feels different — some have original frescoed ceilings, others feature exposed wooden beams that remind you you’re sleeping in a piece of Venetian history. The bathrooms are surprisingly spacious for Venice (trust me, this matters), and the beds are actually comfortable, which isn’t always a given in historic buildings. What I really appreciated was how they’ve managed to fit modern amenities without making the rooms feel cluttered or losing that authentic palazzo atmosphere.
Daily Life at the Hotel
Breakfast happens in a lovely room that overlooks a quiet canal — it’s nothing fancy, but there’s something magical about starting your day watching the occasional gondola drift by. The staff genuinely seems to care about helping you navigate Venice, and they’re full of those insider tips that make a difference (like which vaporetto stops to avoid during rush hour). The whole place has this relaxed, almost residential feel that couples seem to love — probably why it gets such high marks for romantic getaways. There’s no pretense here, just solid hospitality in a beautiful setting.
Why Guests Love It
What keeps people coming back to this place is how it manages to feel authentically Venetian without sacrificing comfort or convenience. You’re staying in a real palazzo in one of Venice’s most atmospheric neighborhoods, but you’re not dealing with the noise and chaos of the main tourist areas. The combination of that incredible location, reasonable three-star pricing, and genuine character is pretty hard to beat. It’s the kind of place where you actually feel like you’re living in Venice for a few days rather than just visiting — and honestly, isn’t that what the best travel experiences are all about?
Best hotels in Venice blend frescoed salons, marble hammams, and rooftop altanas for prosecco sunsets.

Everything in the apartment was as it was described or even better. The host was really accommodating and helpful.
The location is perfectly centered between Rialto and San Marco, with only 30-35min walking from train station.

This apartment is ideally located just 7 minutes from San Marcos Square, surrounded by delightful restaurants and local grocery stores. It’s truly one of the best places to stay. The property managers, Flippo and Giovanna, were professional and kind, with Giovanna even assisting us in coordinating a water taxi. I highly recommend this location for your next vacation.
What could be improved: There were a few minor issues: the coffee pot hadn't been cleaned from the previous occupant, with mold inside, and there was bread left in the toaster, so we had to clean them. Additionally, mosquitoes were a problem in one of the rooms, but given the area's climate, it's advisable to bring repellent. Other than that this place is excellent!Colin from Australia – 7 July 2024 (9/10)
Location excellent. Breakfast not provided

Very spacious apartment and very well equipment kitchen. The owner even provides olive oil, salt, pepper, etc. Location is at the center of all the attractions and yet offer quiet ambience. Located on the 1st floor, just one floor above the ground, it is an easy walk-up even for those with large luggages. With plenty of windows facing the canal, for a first floor apartment, it is easily one of the brightest with plenty of sunlight coming into the apartment. Very responsive and helpful owner, which went out of her way to help me book a water taxi when I faced difficulties in doing so on my own. Very grateful to her on this.
What could be improved: Uneven floor at some places but this is just very tiny issue.Jonathon from United States – 23 June 2024 (8/10)
The staff are absolutely wonderful. I believe her name was Rosalita. The location is great. About 9 minute walk to the Rialto bridge. Same for with basilica di San Marco. Very spacious apartment and had everything we needed.
What could be improved: The Internet was very bad. Really not useable.Gloria from Australia – 14 October 2023 (10/10)
Just wow. This place exceeded our expectations. Super comfy, clean and so big! The photos do not do it justice. Lots of bedding and another bonus is it's on the canal which I didn't realise when I booked. Great location too. A really quaint and lovely apartment.
What could be improved: There's nothing not to like!
Just beware when opening windows not to let in mosquitoes which we found out the hard way.Graham from United Kingdom – 30 August 2023 (10/10)

Great place for groups in Venice! We traveled in a party of 5 and the apartment suited all our needs. Big and equipped kitchen, 2 good bathrooms, 3 bedrooms (2 with double bed and 1 with 2 single beds). It is on the first floor of a building in Castello region, just 10mins away from San Marco Piazza. To arrive there you have to get the vaporetto line 2 until Rialto station and walk 10mins. Taxi boat service that drop you 2mins away is also a opinion.
What could be improved: nothing big
