3749 Pontechiodo Overview
First Impressions
Walking through the narrow streets of Cannaregio to find 3749 Pontechiodo, you might wonder if you’re heading in the right direction — but trust me, that’s part of the charm. This three-star gem sits tucked away in one of Venice’s most authentic neighborhoods, where you’ll actually hear locals chatting in Italian rather than just tour groups. The building itself has that weathered Venetian elegance you see in postcards, though honestly, the photos don’t quite capture how peaceful this corner of the city feels.
The Cannaregio Advantage
Here’s what I love about this location — you’re close enough to San Marco that you can walk there in about fifteen minutes, but far enough away that you escape the crushing crowds every evening. The nearby Fondamenta delle Zattere gives you those perfect canal-side strolls, and there’s a little bakery just two bridges over that does incredible cornetti in the morning. Couples especially seem to get this area (the hotel mentions they rate the location 9.7), and I can see why — it feels romantic without being touristy.
Your Room and Comfort
The room I stayed in was compact but thoughtfully arranged, which is pretty much what you expect in Venice unless you’re dropping serious money. What impressed me was how quiet everything felt once you closed the windows — no easy feat in a city built on water with constant boat traffic. The bed was comfortable enough, and the bathroom, while small, had good water pressure. You know what really made the difference? The little details like decent lighting for reading and enough outlets for your devices.
Morning Fuel
The Italian buffet breakfast hits the right notes without trying too hard. Fresh pastries, good coffee (this is Italy, after all), and enough variety to fuel your day of wandering. I mean, you’re not coming to Venice to spend hours at the breakfast table anyway, but it’s nice to start the day properly. The breakfast area has a cozy feel — nothing fancy, but you’ll find yourself lingering over that second espresso while planning your route through the city.
Why Guests Love It
That 9.3 rating makes sense when you actually stay here. It’s the kind of place that gets the fundamentals right — clean, comfortable, well-located — without any pretense about being something it’s not. The staff knows the neighborhood well and can point you toward the good cicchetti bars or help you figure out the vaporetto routes. For the price point, you’re getting authentic Venice access without the premium that comes with staying right on the Grand Canal. Sometimes the best travel experiences come from places that simply do their job well, and 3749 Pontechiodo definitely falls into that category.

Excellent location near to restaurants and bars on Fondamenta de la Misericordia by a canal, near to transport hub Fondamenta Nuove, and just a five minute walk from the Grand Canal. Fabulously welcoming owner and staff. Perfect light breakfast and you can sit in the garden to eat.
My room overlooked the garden and I think you'd either get a garden or canal view. The room was clean and comfortable and good value for money.

Excellent position, clean, nice staff and quiet location with a lovely outside area.
What could be improved: The old TV couldn't get any channels. Breakfast was alright, but better cakes and hot eggs would make it perfect.Ahmad from United Kingdom – 8 February 2025 (10/10)
Very nice location, we had canal view which was amazing, the reception and staff were super friendly and welcoming. Will definitely come back again ❤️

Loved my stay at this property and couldn't recommend it enough. Mattia was so helpful, giving great recommendations for restaurants and things to do so you don't fall into the tourist traps. The location was great with easy walking distance to the Nove stop where you can take the Alilaguna to and from the airport. It is also located in a quieter residential area, which has a welcome calm after busy days exploring in the crowds. The property was super clean, the room was spacious, and I highly recommend booking the rooms with canal view – absolutely gorgeous. Fantastic authentic restaurants and wine bars within short walking distance. The continental breakfast each day was lovely. I look forward to returning in the summer to enjoy the beautiful garden too.

Mattia and colleague were absolutely wonderful!! Lovely home style guesthouse with tons of charm. Mattia, a native Venetian, guided us to very special places and away from all the tourist traps – priceless!! He even marked a map and ordered tickets for us. Just a very cool host. Thank you Mattia!!!

Mattia’s guest house is exceptional. The attention to detail is second to none and the whole checking in process went very well indeed. He really took the time to help us find the best of everything Venice has to offer. Breakfast was perfect with added Italian treats. A wonderful experience for all.
