Cà Greta Overview

First Impressions

Walking up to Cà Greta in Dorsoduro, you immediately get that feeling — you know, when you realize you’ve stumbled onto something good. This three-star place doesn’t try to be flashy, but there’s something genuinely welcoming about it that hits you right away. The building itself has that weathered Venetian charm that makes you want to run your hand along the stone walls, and honestly, the entrance feels more like you’re visiting a friend’s family home than checking into a hotel.

The Dorsoduro Advantage

Here’s what I love about staying in this part of Venice — you’re actually living like a local instead of fighting crowds every time you step outside. Dorsoduro has this laid-back vibe that the San Marco area just can’t match, with real neighborhood cafes where you can grab your morning espresso without paying tourist prices. The Peggy Guggenheim Collection is practically around the corner, and you can walk to the Accademia Bridge in about ten minutes. What really sold me on the location though was discovering that evening aperitivo spot locals frequent — it’s tucked away on a quiet campo just two streets over, the kind of place you’d never find if you weren’t staying in the neighborhood.

Your Home Base

The room I stayed in was compact but thoughtfully arranged — I mean, this is Venice, so you’re not expecting a sprawling suite anyway. What impressed me was how they managed to fit everything you actually need without making it feel cramped. The bed was surprisingly comfortable (sometimes you worry about that in smaller European hotels), and the bathroom, while small, had good water pressure. There’s decent storage space too, which matters when you’re unpacking for more than just a quick weekend trip.

Daily Rhythms

Mornings here have this nice, unhurried quality to them. The staff genuinely seems to care about making sure you’re sorted for the day ahead — they’ll point you toward the best route to avoid the tourist bottlenecks or suggest which vaporetto stop to use depending on where you’re headed. I actually ended up having some of my best conversations about Venice with the front desk team, who clearly know the city well beyond just the standard recommendations. The whole place operates with this relaxed efficiency that makes you feel like you can take your time getting ready instead of rushing out to beat the crowds.

Why Guests Love It

What keeps people coming back to Cà Greta isn’t any single standout feature — it’s how everything works together to give you an authentic Venice experience. You’re staying in a real neighborhood where people actually live and work, not just a tourist zone. The location score of 8.7 makes perfect sense once you’ve spent a few days here, because you realize you can walk to the major sights when you want to, but you can also escape them completely. Couples especially seem to appreciate this balance — there’s something romantic about having your own quiet corner of Venice to retreat to after a day of exploring. It’s the kind of place that makes you feel like you’ve discovered something special, even though you’re still right in the heart of one of the world’s most visited cities.

Perfect house! Very clean and spacious, the beds were very comfortable and the position amazing. Less than 10-15min walk to Piazza San Marco and situated in a very quiet street. We will come back for sure. Thanks

What could be improved: The towels were very small, and the shower curtain was missing.

  • Paula from United States – 23 October 2024 (6/10)

The property is very old , need a lot of improvements. But is big and was clean

What could be improved: Difficult to find the place. Almost non communication with the owner. Yes the gate was difficult to find the right key and is not easy to open.

  • Simona from Italy – 11 October 2024 (8/10)

la posizione buona, la casa comoda.

What could be improved: La persona che ha seguito l´accoglienza (solo per telefono) era piuttosto burbera.

  • Stefano from Italy – 1 July 2024 (7/10)

Ottima posizione per i vaporetti. Quartiere bello. Vicino c è una bella piazza con ristoranti e locali

What could be improved: Consiglio di mettere delle zanzariere alle finestre. Nel periodo estivo e con il caldo, non essendoci l aria condizionata, è necessario tenere le finestre aperte. Essendo a Venezia, ci sono molte zanzare che entrano in casa soprattutto di notte.

Ist was a big Apartment, with enough space for 6 adults or also 8 with some children. There are 2 bathrooms, so it was comfortable for everybody. Also the plus is, that in the middle of Apartment is a big table, so its good possibility to have a Dinner together. There were more than 8 chairs inside and also enough plates for everyone 🙂 If you travel with small children, they would find enough toys inside. The Apartment is old with a charme of old Venice, ofcourse you can hear the noise from the street, but is it realy a minus point? Communication with a oner was also very fast, every question i asked, was answered very quick 😉 The flat is nice for a big families. We realy enjoyed our Time there. Thank you!

This airb&b was spacious for our family of 8. We booked the entire apartment which had 4 rooms. The location is about 20 mins walking distance from the Rialto Bridge/shopping areas, St. Mark's square. It is located in a quiet area. Self check in and access to both doors was easy and instructions were straightforward. The price was reasonable for a venice airb&b. The host sent lots of instructions regarding the trash collection.

What could be improved: Since we were visiting during a summer month, it was very hot at night and we were given only 2 electric fans for the four rooms. When we opened the windows there were a lot of mosquitoes inside the apartment. All of us were bitten by the mosquitoes while we slept. Some of the furniture was old and looked liked it need repairs/replacing, especially the dining chairs. The Wifi also did not work. The towels that were provided were small, and stained. Another issue, was when we went to dinner and when we arrived around 9:00pm there an outside gate that was pulled shut blocking our entry to the apartment. Per the instructions from the host, anyone checking in after 7pm would require another key which will need to be obtained from another location. Apparently the gate is locked every night regardless if you have already checked in earlier. Thankfully another resident nearby was able to let us in after we explained we were staying at the apartment. We only stayed here for one night.
