The House of Art – Venice Biennale Overview
First Impressions
Walking down Calle Seconda de la Fava, you’ll spot The House of Art – Venice Biennale tucked into the Castello district — and honestly, the name isn’t just marketing fluff. This three-star hotel actually lives up to its artistic promise with thoughtful design touches throughout. The entrance feels intimate rather than grand, which I mean, that’s Venice for you. You’re not getting a sprawling lobby here, but what you do get is character and that unmistakable Venetian charm that makes you feel like you’ve discovered something special.
Location & Neighborhood
Here’s the thing about Castello — it’s where locals actually live, not just where tourists shuffle through. You’re about a ten-minute walk from St. Mark’s Square, but far enough away that you won’t be fighting crowds every time you step outside. The property sits in what’s genuinely one of Venice’s top-rated areas, and I can see why couples rate it so highly. There’s something romantic about wandering these quieter canals in the evening, then ducking into one of the neighborhood bacari for cicchetti and wine. You know what’s great? You can actually hear yourself think here, unlike some of the more touristy spots.
The Rooms
The rooms lean into that art theme without going overboard — think carefully curated pieces rather than gallery walls. Each space feels different, which honestly makes sense given you’re in a converted Venetian building. The beds are comfortable enough, and while the rooms aren’t huge (this is Venice, after all), they’re well-designed with smart storage solutions. What I really appreciated was the attention to lighting — both natural light from the windows and the evening ambiance they’ve created with lamps and fixtures.
Getting Around Venice
From here, you’re perfectly positioned to explore without feeling like you’re staying in the thick of tourist chaos. The nearest vaporetto stop is just a few minutes away, so getting to other parts of the city is straightforward. But honestly, some of my favorite moments were just wandering the immediate neighborhood — discovering tiny bridges, stumbling across local shops, and finding those perfect Instagram spots that aren’t completely overrun. The walk to the Biennale venues (when it’s running) is actually quite pleasant, which makes sense given the hotel’s name and obvious connection to Venice’s art scene.
Why Guests Love It
This place works because it strikes that sweet spot between authentic Venetian experience and modern comfort. You’re not paying five-star prices, but you’re getting thoughtful touches and a genuine sense of place. The staff seems to understand that guests want insider tips — they’ll point you toward the good restaurants locals frequent, not just the obvious tourist traps. For couples especially, there’s something about the intimate scale and artistic atmosphere that just clicks. It’s the kind of place where you can have a proper Venice experience without breaking the bank or feeling like you’re in a tourist factory.
Early hotels booking in Venice secures balcony seats for Vogalonga regattas and torchlit basilica tours.

Η τοποθεσία είναι πολύ καλή.
Περίπου 10 λεπτά από το κέντρο.
Η Via Garibaldi είναι ένας πολύ όμορφος δρόμος χωρίς τη φασαρία του κέντρου.

La ubicació real estava bé. Lloc i barri tranquil.
What could be improved: La ubicació que dona booking no és gens correcta, vam trobar l'allotjament gràcies a les indicacions de l'amfitriona.
La reserva era per quatre persones i l'apartament només estava preparat per a 2, per a un dels llits no teniem llençols.
Neteja millorable.Christina from Sweden – 24 January 2024 (8/10)
What could be improved: Att varmvattnet försvann i första lägenheten House of art, dag två av vår vistelse, och sedan slogs all el ut på kvällen dag tre, allt blev svart, väldigt otrevligt. Vi blev hänvisade av personalen på boendet att ta in på hotell för natten, dagen därpå skickade boendet en ytterst vänlig guide som tog oss till den andra lägenheten. En jobbig natt, som kompenserades av lösninginriktad och tålmodig personal.Jaroslaw from United States – 16 January 2024 (1/10)
I was initially attracted by the price and what was advertised as a very good location, but it turned out to be incorrect. It took several calls to finally reach someone (not an owner) who provided the accurate location, which was much farther from the center than expected.
What could be improved: A disappointing experience with an unreliable owner. They demanded $80 for a late check-in despite no one being on-site. The posted location was incorrect, leading to an hour of searching to find the right place. The rooms were in poor condition, not cleaned, and had garbage on the floor. Attempts to contact the actual owner were futile, forcing me to book another place in the middle of the night. Booking.com gave me a refund for one night only. The owner never responded. I highly advise against choosing this accommodation. Consider yourself warned!
