Residence Ca’ di Malta Arsenale by Wonderful Italy Overview

First Impressions

Walking through the narrow streets of Castello to find Residence Ca’ di Malta Arsenale by Wonderful Italy feels like discovering a hidden gem that most tourists never stumble upon. This three-star property sits tucked away in Corte San Giovanni di Malta, and honestly, the location alone makes it worth considering. You know what struck me most? How quiet it gets here in the evenings, even though you’re still very much in the heart of Venice.

The Castello Advantage

I mean, there’s a reason couples rate this location so highly — and trust me, after staying here, I get it. You’re in Castello, which is sort of Venice’s best-kept secret for people who want to experience the real city without the constant crush of day-trippers. The Arsenale area has this authentic neighborhood feel where you’ll actually see Venetians going about their daily lives. From here, you can walk to San Marco in about ten minutes, but you can also explore the Biennale gardens and the naval museum, which most visitors completely miss.

The Space Itself

The apartment setup here really works well — you get that sense of living like a local rather than just passing through. Each unit has its own character, and while the furnishings are simple, they’re thoughtfully chosen and comfortable. The kitchen facilities are actually useful (not just decorative like in some places), which comes in handy when you want to grab fresh ingredients from the Rialto market and cook something simple. The room layouts make good use of the space, though you should know that this is Venice — so don’t expect sprawling square footage.

Getting Around

Here’s something I really appreciated — the vaporetto stops are close enough to be practical, but you’re not dealing with the constant noise and crowds that come with being right on the Grand Canal. The nearest stop connects you easily to Murano and Burano if you want to do the island-hopping thing, and getting to the train station is straightforward when it’s time to leave. Walking is honestly the best way to explore from here anyway, and the neighborhood invites those kind of wandering discoveries that make Venice special.

Why Guests Love It

What really sets this place apart is how it balances accessibility with authenticity. You’re staying in a part of Venice that feels genuinely Venetian — where you might hear conversations in Italian rather than just tourist chatter. The property management is responsive (which matters when you’re dealing with the quirks that come with historic buildings), and the value proposition makes sense for what you’re getting. It’s not trying to be something it’s not, and that honesty is refreshing in a city where it’s easy to get caught up in overpriced tourist traps.

To book a hotel in Venice during Biennale openings, guests juggle Giardini previews with lagoon aperitivo cruises.

Reviews of Residence Ca’ di Malta Arsenale by Wonderful Italy

  • Jiří from Czech Republic – 24 February 2025 (9/10)

Room looked exactly as on pictures. Quiet location right next to the water canal and really close to the square. Instructions were clear. Heating worked flawlessly.

What could be improved: Beds were too hard for me, but some people prefer them. If you prefer harder beds, then it will be 10/10.

  • Michael from United States – 20 October 2024 (7/10)

    Clean & comfortable.

What could be improved: The check in process was confusing & frustrating.
They use Whatsap & we had difficulty with it. There was no live person to help. Several couples were checking in at the same time and the entry code wouldn’t work. The only communication was a third party service. We all were standing in the rain until someone came & put a new battery in the code box.

  • Toni from United States – 10 October 2024 (9/10)

The location was awesome, amenities were nice, I liked that it had a private bathroom and a community area to eat/drink, make coffee/tea, and staff was kind and helpful!

  • Jose from Uruguay – 1 October 2024 (9/10)

Exactly like in the picture. Beautiful apartment in exceptional location close to San Marco

  • Megalos from Canada – 28 August 2024 (9/10)

Loved being on the canal and it was close to many things to do and to the vaporetto for transportation and from the airport. THe suggestioons for dinner were really goos alos

What could be improved: TV- not much to watch- no movies or english

  • Kate from United Kingdom – 4 August 2024 (9/10)

The location was fab , big room with bathroom and clean. It was difficult to find even with instructions as it all looks the same .

What could be improved: Difficult to find and it says tea and coffee however this was in a different shared kitchen not in the room. It didn’t matter as this was a base while we were visiting . It was everything we needed. Location amazing.

  • Anna from Japan – 10 July 2024 (9/10)

Central and quiet at the same time! Nice neighborhood. Good restaurants around and local boulangerie. Easy to get to main touristic spots as well.

  • Paul from United States – 20 May 2024 (9/10)

If you're visiting the Biennale, this location can't be beat.

  • Claire from Canada – 14 May 2024 (8/10)

The location, quietness, proximity to the Biennale, goods and transportation through waterways

What could be improved: A few more ustensiles or kitchen ware and wine bottle opener would have been nice to have

  • Pauline from Austria – 22 April 2024 (8/10)

Location was perfect and very close to all attractions. Great place to stay if you are going to visit the Biennale.
The area is very pleasant and the description from the owner and how to get to and access the property was excellent.
I would surely stay here again

What could be improved: There was no iron in the room, which would have been excellent when on a work trip and hangers would have been a huge plus and a big bonus.
