Residenza Cavana Overview

First Impressions

Walking down Calle Avogaria in Dorsoduro, you’d almost miss Residenza Cavana if you weren’t looking for it — and honestly, that’s part of its charm. This three-star boutique property sits tucked away in one of Venice’s quieter neighborhoods, where you’ll hear more Italian conversations than tourist chatter. The entrance feels more like stepping into someone’s elegant Venetian home than a typical hotel, which I mean, sets the tone perfectly for what’s essentially a refined guesthouse experience.

The Dorsoduro Advantage

Here’s what I love about staying in Dorsoduro — you’re close enough to the main attractions but far enough away to actually breathe. The Peggy Guggenheim Collection is literally around the corner, and you can walk to St. Mark’s Square in about fifteen minutes without fighting through the usual crowds. What really sold me on the location, though, is how easy it is to find a decent restaurant nearby that isn’t charging tourist prices. The locals actually eat in this neighborhood, which tells you everything you need to know.

Your Room

The rooms at Residenza Cavana are what I’d call “thoughtfully compact” — this isn’t the place for sprawling suites, but every room feels carefully designed to maximize the space. Mine had these gorgeous original wooden beams and windows that opened onto a quiet courtyard, which was honestly a relief after dealing with Venice’s busier areas all day. The beds are comfortable enough, and the bathrooms are modern without feeling out of place in the historic building. You know what impressed me most? The attention to soundproofing — I actually got decent sleep here, which isn’t always guaranteed in Venice.

Getting Around

The nearest vaporetto stop is Zattere, maybe a three-minute walk away, which connects you to pretty much everywhere you need to go. But here’s a local tip — sometimes it’s actually faster to walk to your destination than wait for the water bus, especially if you’re heading to areas like San Polo or even Rialto. The staff gave me a hand-drawn map with shortcuts through the quieter campos, and I ended up using those routes more than the main tourist paths. There’s no dedicated parking (this is Venice, after all), but they’ll help coordinate with Piazzale Roma if you’re driving in.

Why Couples Love It

I can see why this place gets such high marks from couples — there’s something genuinely romantic about the whole setup without it feeling forced or overly themed. The common areas have this relaxed, intimate vibe where you might chat with other guests over morning coffee, but you’re not crowded together. The neighborhood itself is perfect for evening strolls along the Zattere waterfront, where you can watch the sunset over the Giudecca Canal. It’s the kind of place where you feel like you’re experiencing Venice the way locals do, rather than just checking off the major sights. For a three-star property, Residenza Cavana delivers something that feels more personal and authentic than many of the larger hotels in the touristy areas.

Venice’s apartments welcome families with vaporetto passes, kitchenettes for market hauls, and bridges leading to Lido playgrounds.

Reviews of Residenza Cavana

  • Diego from United States – 2 October 2024 (8/10)

The location was great. The apartment was very clean. The bed was comfortable.

What could be improved: Many things expected to be in an apartment were missing: a microwave, a TV, drawers for clothes, a hook to hang towels, and a holder for toilet paper. There were 3 chairs but one was broken. We were left a single set of keys, had to contact the owner about it, and were sent to an office in Venice to pick up a second set. The check-in time is narrow (3 to 7 pm). Check-out time is inflexible and very early (10 am). Usually, the host leaves things in the kitchen to make it easier for the guests. There was no coffee, oil, or bottled water. Instructions on getting to the nearest supermarket or taking public transportation would have been appreciated.

  • Jonas from Brazil – 30 June 2024 (4/10)

What could be improved: Nur eine der beiden Schlafzimmer hatte eine Klimaanlage.

  • Jaroslaw from Sweden – 6 April 2024 (8/10)

Lagade frukost själv. Mat butik är väldig nära.

What could be improved: litte för stort bord i köket då litte trångt för tre person. Inga säng skåp i stora sovrum.

  • Niki5467 from Austria – 28 March 2024 (9/10)

Tutto bene.
    Mah…
    Buon anno

  • Fabrice from France – 16 August 2023 (8/10)

Bien situé et bon rapport qualité prix

What could be improved: Appartement correct dans l’ensemble.

  • Jean-yves from France – 3 October 2022 (6/10)

  • Christine from Australia – 15 May 2022 (5/10)

Clean and location near nice restaurants.

What could be improved: Lack of communication. No TV. Kitchen chairs need replacing. Bedside lamps would have been good.

  • Marie from France – 15 May 2022 (7/10)

Donc aucun accueil particulier.

  • Samara from United States – 5 April 2022 (8/10)

loved everything about this property. the place was super clean and modern, but still with a homey feel. the balcony gave us view of the quiet street and a nice place to sip some wine during sunset. spacious apartamento with responsive hosts. lots of things like restaurants and cafes were within a short walking distance.

What could be improved: the elevator was broken so we had to carry our heavy luggage up the stairs.
