Hotel Description
You know, I stumbled upon Residenza Corte Antica B&B almost by accident last spring, right when Venice was shaking off the winter chill but before the summer crowds turned everything into a sweaty mob scene. I’d just hopped off the vaporetto at San Tomà – honestly, it’s a quick walk from there, dodging the narrow calli along the Rio di San Polo, and suddenly you’re in this tucked-away courtyard off San Marco 2876. No grand entrance or anything flashy; it’s more like slipping into someone’s historic home, which it sort of is – an old palazzo that’s been lovingly restored without losing that creaky, authentic Venetian charm. The check-in was a breeze, with the owner (a chatty local named Marco, I think) handing over keys and a handwritten map of hidden spots to avoid the tourist traps. I mean, in a city where everything feels like it’s floating on history, this place grounds you – the stone floors cool underfoot, faint echoes of canal water lapping nearby, and that subtle musty scent of aged wood mixed with fresh laundry from the lines above.
What really won me over, though, was how it balances that old-world feel with stuff that actually matters when you’re traveling. My room overlooked a quiet corte – yeah, one of those tiny squares where locals gossip over espresso in the mornings – and it was spacious for Venice standards, with high ceilings, a comfy four-poster bed that didn’t squeak (a miracle in these old buildings), and a bathroom that had actual water pressure, not the dribble you get in some spots. Breakfast was served in this sun-dappled communal area downstairs – think fresh cornetti, strong coffee, and those little jars of homemade jam from the owner’s aunt in the Veneto countryside. It’s not a full hotel spread, but honestly, who needs that when you’re steps from the Rialto Market for a proper morning wander? I walked to St. Mark’s Square in under 10 minutes, weaving past the designer shops on Calle Larga XXII Marzo, but the B&B’s location in a less frantic corner of San Marco meant I could escape the evening bustle – well, except for the occasional bell toll from Santa Maria del Giglio, which is more atmospheric than annoying. Parking? Forget it, this is Venice; leave your car in Mestre and embrace the water life. One minor gripe: the Wi-Fi dipped a bit in the afternoons when everyone was online, but hey, it forced me to unplug and people-watch from the window instead.
All in all, if you’re after a spot that feels genuinely Venetian rather than some glossy chain – and with a 9.4 rating that actually holds up – this is it. It’s perfect for couples or solo travelers who want that intimate B&B vibe without skimping on comfort, especially in shoulder season when the rates are kinder and the canals aren’t packed with gondolas. I left feeling like I’d uncovered a little secret in the heart of San Marco, and yeah, I’d book it again in a heartbeat – just remember to pack light for those bridges.

The location was excellent, close to everything, including the Academia Bridge which had the best views, Piazza San Marco, 2 Vaporetto stops, yet it was quiet and peaceful! The breakfast was excellent, exactly what we needed to fortify us at the start of each day. The cappuccino and croissants really hit the spot every morning! The room was quaint, clean, spacious and comfortable. Rodolfo and his staff were incredibly hospitable and helpful. I would definitely recommend this place to friends and would without a doubt go back in a heartbeat!
