Hotel Description

You know, I stumbled upon Residenza Fiore almost by accident last spring when I was wandering through Venice, trying to avoid the crush of tourists around St. Mark’s Square. It’s tucked away on Campo Santo Stefano in San Marco – that’s this lively little square right over the Accademia Bridge from Dorsoduro, where locals actually hang out for aperitivi instead of just snapping selfies. I mean, arriving by vaporetto to San Tomà stop and then strolling those narrow calli with my suitcase clattering on the stones – it’s the kind of Venice arrival that feels real, not staged. The hotel itself is in one of those faded pink palazzos that line the campo, with a discreet entrance that you might miss if you’re not paying attention. Honestly, my first thought stepping inside was how refreshingly unpretentious it is for a 3-star spot with a 9.2 rating – no over-the-top chandeliers or fake frescoes, just clean lines, exposed beams, and that faint, salty canal smell that seeps into everything here (in a good way, not the gross kind during high water season).

What really won me over, though, was how it nails that balance of old-world charm without feeling stuffy. My room overlooked the campo – well, sort of a side view, but close enough to hear the church bells from Santo Stefano chiming in the mornings, which is oddly soothing after a night of dodging crowds. The beds are comfy, with those crisp white linens that make you forget you’re in a historic building that probably hasn’t seen a remodel since the Renaissance (okay, slight exaggeration, but the creaky wooden floors add character). Breakfast is simple – fresh cornetti, decent coffee from a machine, and maybe some fruit if you’re early – served in a cozy ground-floor room where the staff chats you up like old friends. Speaking of which, the folks at the desk are gems; one guy even sketched me a quick map to avoid the tourist-trap restaurants on nearby Calle Larga XXII Marzo, pointing me instead to a hidden osteria in Campo San Barnaba for cicchetti that didn’t break the bank. Oh, and practical note: no parking obviously (it’s Venice, duh), but they store luggage if you arrive early, and check-in was a breeze even when I showed up sweaty from the walk. Minor gripe? The Wi-Fi can be spotty in the upper rooms during peak hours – you know, when everyone’s uploading their gondola pics – but hey, it forced me to unplug and people-watch from the square below.

All in all, if you’re after a spot that feels like a local’s pied-à-terre rather than a generic hotel chain, Residenza Fiore is it. It’s smack in the heart of things – a 10-minute wander to Rialto for the market bustle or 15 to Piazza San Marco if you time it right before the day-trippers flood in – but the campo itself quiets down after dark, save for the occasional accordion player busking for tips. I stayed three nights in May, when the weather’s perfect and the evenings have that golden light reflecting off the lagoon, and it made exploring so effortless. Sure, rooms aren’t huge (Venice real estate, what can you do?), but for the price and that authentic vibe, it’s a steal. I’d go back in a heartbeat – actually, I might just book it for my next trip, dodging the summer heat this time. If you’re planning Venice, skip the flashy spots and give this one a shot; it’ll make your stay feel less like tourism and more like living the dream.

Amazing stay in Venice! The bed is AMAZING! I have been travelling through Italy and it was the most refreshing sleep so far… I thought it was very quiet, clean and comfy. There is no elevators and we had big luggages, nevertheless it wasn’t a problem for us. They receive you with water, chocolate and even netflix is available. The location is even better. We could do everything by walk.
    Definetely coming back.

The hotel is in a great location, easy to walk to many places. The room was very clean and comfortable with good amenities.

What could be improved: We couldn’t book an earlier flight, so ended up arriving late. We were charged the €50 for late arrival which I think is quite pricey.
