Rio Marin Apartment Overview

First Impressions

Walking through the narrow streets of San Polo to reach Rio Marin Apartment, you’ll quickly realize why this three-star property has such an incredible location score. I mean, finding a place that sits right in the heart of Venice’s most authentic neighborhood — without the tourist chaos of San Marco — is honestly pretty rare. The building itself has that weathered Venetian charm you’re hoping for, tucked along one of those quiet canals where locals actually still live and work.

The San Polo Advantage

Here’s what I love about staying in this part of Venice: you’re walking distance from the Rialto Market (perfect for morning coffee watching the fishmongers), but you can actually escape the crowds when you want to. The Rio Marin Apartment puts you in what locals consider the “real” Venice — there’s a fantastic bacaro just around the corner where you’ll hear more Italian than English, and the morning light hitting the canal outside is something you won’t get in the more touristy areas. Couples especially seem to get this location, which makes sense because there’s something genuinely romantic about having your own little corner of Venice to retreat to.

The Space Itself

The apartment feels authentically Venetian without being cramped or outdated. You know how some Venice accommodations can feel like they’re stuck in a time warp? This place actually strikes a nice balance — original details like exposed beams and traditional windows, but modern touches where they matter (the bathroom, thank goodness, and decent WiFi). The kitchen setup is practical if you want to grab fresh ingredients from the Rialto Market, though honestly, with all the incredible restaurants within a five-minute walk, you might not use it much.

Getting Around Venice

What really sold me on this location is how it connects to the rest of the city. You’re close enough to walk to major sights — the Rialto Bridge is literally a few minutes away — but you’re also near a vaporetto stop that isn’t constantly mobbed with tour groups. I found myself using the apartment as a genuine home base, popping back between exploring sessions rather than feeling like I had to stay out all day because getting back was such a hassle. The narrow streets around here are part of Venice’s charm, but fair warning: you will get lost at least once trying to find your way back the first night.

Why Guests Love It

The combination of authentic neighborhood feel and practical location really works here. You’re staying where Venetians actually live — there’s a small grocery store nearby, a pharmacy, places that serve the community rather than just tourists. But you’re not sacrificing access to Venice’s highlights; you’re just approaching them from a more genuine angle. The Rio Marin Apartment gives you that rare thing in Venice: a sense of actually living in the city for a few days rather than just passing through it. For the price point and the location score it’s earned, it’s honestly one of the better deals you’ll find in this part of Venice.

To book a hotel in Venice during Biennale openings, guests juggle Giardini previews with lagoon aperitivo cruises.

Reviews of Rio Marin Apartment

  • Nikolaos from United Kingdom – 25 March 2025 (7/10)

Fully equipped. Very good WiFi signal . Comfortable for a couple .Clean and tidy.

What could be improved: Not physical light .
Price was bit expensive for the distance from Venice centre.
Communication was bit difficult as messages keep coming in Italian and has to use Google translation .as booking.com didn’t translate them
TV didn’t have picture only sound .
The only window of the house was broken and didn’t open.
Thought council tax was included to the original salty price so was surprised ( unpleasant) when I found out that we have to pay an extra 24euros for the three nights .

  • Smertjevas from Lithuania – 18 October 2024 (7/10)

    Good location

What could be improved: Very dark, because of only one window. And some bulbs were wearen off, not working.

  • Ashleigh from Australia – 15 October 2024 (8/10)

Great location, nice cafe just around the corner. Having the window to the canal was beautiful.
    Betty was very responsive!

What could be improved: Nothing to fault!

  • Adair from Australia – 22 September 2024 (8/10)

Great spot in Venice with view of gondalors

What could be improved: Large apartment but quite dark given ground floor but as expected

  • Michelle from Australia – 19 September 2024 (9/10)

The location is good as it is in a quiet laneway off a thoroughfare. It is right in the middle of Venice city which means it’s 15 mins to either end for all the busy restaurants but there are plenty of restaurants around the corner. Grand Canal about a 7 min walk. The property itself is an older style and basic but is all you need. A good secure door with a kitchen and washing machine which is handy for travellers.

What could be improved: The shower head was a little broken so sprayed into your face even though we tried to move it around. Unfortunately, a yapping dog started up at 5.15sm non stop for 5 mins both mornings. Not the owners fault but annoyed the dog was like an alarm clock! Apart from that it was great.

  • Juri from Japan – 5 September 2024 (8/10)

The house is old, but very clean and neat.
    I was very satisfied.

  • Laura from France – 11 June 2024 (9/10)

The location was really good and the flat is actually more spacious than i thought!
The owner was really nice and we manage to check in earlier than planned! We also got a free cot for our baby.

What could be improved: It’s quite humid, but the flat is still really clean

  • Emma from United Kingdom – 6 May 2024 (9/10)

This place was so special with its window view straight onto the canal. It really made the stay special. We loved sitting with a glass of wine and watching everyone go by. The location is perfect for the train station and the city.

  • Tatiana from United States – 27 September 2023 (8/10)

It's close to the train station like 10 mins walk. The apartment was clean. It has plenty of space. The kitchen had all we needed like the fridge, microwave, coffeemaker, table ware. There was an iron and ironing board and a washing machine in the apartment. There is a small balcony that faces the water.

  • Vanesa from Spain – 26 August 2023 (9/10)

The location is perfect because it is quiet and not too crowded. The apartment has everything one family needs. Milo has been very attentive and gentle with us.
