SALAMON GUEST HOUSE Overview

First Impressions

Walking down Calle Salamon in Castello, you’d almost miss SALAMON GUEST HOUSE if you weren’t looking for it — and honestly, that’s part of its charm. This three-star gem sits quietly in one of Venice’s most authentic neighborhoods, away from the tourist chaos but still incredibly well-connected. The entrance feels more like stepping into a Venetian friend’s home than checking into a hotel, which I mean in the best possible way. You immediately get that sense of intimacy that larger properties just can’t replicate.

Location & Neighborhood

Here’s what I love about Castello — it’s where actual Venetians live and work, not just where they pose for photos. SALAMON GUEST HOUSE scored an impressive 8.9 for location, and after spending time here, I totally get why. You’re a pleasant walk from San Marco Square (maybe 10-12 minutes), but you’re also surrounded by neighborhood bakeries, wine bars, and that little grocery store where the owner actually remembers your face. The Arsenale is practically around the corner, and if you’re into the Biennale, you couldn’t ask for a better base. Plus, couples seem to really connect with this area — there’s something romantic about wandering these quieter canals together.

The Rooms

The accommodations at SALAMON GUEST HOUSE feel thoughtfully designed rather than cookie-cutter corporate. My room had those classic Venetian touches — exposed beams, terrazzo floors — but with modern comforts that actually work (you know how hit-or-miss that can be in Venice). The bathroom was compact but well-planned, and the bed was genuinely comfortable, not just adequate. What struck me most was the attention to details like proper lighting for reading and enough outlets for your devices. It’s clear someone who understands travelers put thought into these spaces.

Daily Experience

Mornings here have this lovely, unhurried quality. There’s no massive breakfast buffet with tour groups jostling for position — instead, you get a more personal start to your day that feels authentically Venetian. The staff genuinely seems to care about your experience, offering suggestions that go beyond the obvious tourist spots. They pointed me toward a fantastic bacaro I never would have found otherwise. Throughout the day, you can pop back easily since you’re so centrally located, which is honestly a game-changer when you’re dealing with Venice’s maze-like streets and inevitable tired feet.

Why Guests Love It

What really sets SALAMON GUEST HOUSE apart is how it balances accessibility with authenticity. You’re not sacrificing location or comfort for that intimate, local feel — you’re actually getting all three. The 8.3 rating reflects what I experienced: a place that consistently delivers without trying too hard to impress. It’s particularly perfect for couples who want to experience Venice beyond the postcard version, but it works just as well for solo travelers who appreciate being in a real neighborhood. You’ll leave feeling like you discovered something special rather than just stayed somewhere convenient.

To book a hotel in Venice during Biennale openings, guests juggle Giardini previews with lagoon aperitivo cruises.

Reviews of SALAMON GUEST HOUSE

  • Eugenio from Spain – 4 January 2025 (7/10)

La ubicación y la disponibilidad de habitaciones. Camas de matrimonio en todas. Dos baños.

What could be improved: El sistema de calefacción.

  • Beate from Germany – 22 November 2024 (7/10)

  • Anne from France – 3 November 2024 (8/10)

Calme, proximité commerces, éloignement afflux touristique

    What could be improved: Rien

  • Francois from Singapore – 18 July 2024 (2/10)

The location was good, close to the city center.

What could be improved: There were lots of wood lices on the top floor (top 2 bedrooms) making them unusable.
The aircon was very weak (especially given the strong heat in the summer). The top 2 rooms were extremely hot even at night, so they are practically unusable even if it wasn't for the insects.
The paint all over the house is flaking off.
The house has 4 narrow storeys with lots of stairs – not well suited for a family with small children.
The water flow in the shower is very weak and goes randomly from very hot to cold.
    Towels are low quality.
    The house is dusty.
The host insists he gave us 2 sets of keys even though we only received one set.
The list goes on and on. The host is not very responsive to the complaints we made and not very friendly overall.

  • Veldre from Latvia – 8 June 2024 (9/10)

  • Catherine from France – 12 May 2024 (8/10)

  • Volker from Germany – 3 May 2024 (9/10)

Da bekommt man alles, was man benötigt.

What could be improved: In der Küche kein Backofen.

  • Milena from Bulgaria – 4 April 2024 (9/10)

  • Lidia from Romania – 4 October 2023 (9/10)

Very clean, we had fully equipped kitchen and some coffe, cola, beer from the host.
The apartment is weary clean, and is located in a really nice neighbourhood, 15 minute to Piazza San Marco.

    What could be improved: Nothing

  • Ugochukwu from United Kingdom – 16 August 2023 (9/10)

As a booking.com – Genius Level 3, I always try to give detailed feedback.
The apartment is good and value for money. It is also very close to some major attraction locations in Venice. The host Domi was an excellent person although we did not meet her in person but she took the time to guide us via text on how to locate the property with ease. The apartment was clean and fresh and fit for purpose for us as a family, with 4 children.
The host always responds within minutes to any query. We stayed for 8 nights and loved it and we shall use it again in future, if available during our next visit to Venice.

What could be improved: There is nothing we didn't like as such
