SAN LUCA 1836 Overview
First Impressions
Walking up to SAN LUCA 1836 feels like discovering a hidden gem tucked away in the maze of Venetian streets. This three-star boutique hotel sits right in the heart of San Marco — and I mean literally in the heart of it. You’re about a three-minute walk from St. Mark’s Square, but somehow you’ve escaped all the tourist chaos. The building itself has that weathered Venetian charm you see in postcards, with those classic arched windows and stone details that make you feel like you’re stepping back in time.
Location Magic
Honestly, the location here is pretty spectacular — they’ve got a 9.8 location score, and after staying there, I totally get why. You can literally roll out of bed and be at the Rialto Bridge in about five minutes, or wander over to St. Mark’s Basilica before the crowds hit. What I really loved though was how you’re positioned right where locals actually live and work. There’s this little campo nearby where you’ll find Venetians grabbing their morning coffee, not just tourists taking selfies. The vaporetto stops are super close too, so getting around to other islands or back to the train station is actually pretty painless.
The Rooms
The room I stayed in was compact — well, this is Venice, so that’s expected — but thoughtfully designed. Everything felt fresh and well-maintained, which isn’t always a given in these historic buildings. The bathroom was modern and functional, and honestly, having reliable hot water and good water pressure in Venice feels like a small miracle sometimes. What really struck me was how quiet it was at night, considering you’re smack in the middle of everything. The windows actually block out most of the street noise, so you can sleep without earplugs.
Daily Rhythms
Mornings here have this lovely rhythm to them. You can grab breakfast at the little café downstairs — nothing fancy, but good coffee and fresh pastries that hit the spot. The staff genuinely seems to care about making your stay work, and they’re full of those insider tips that actually matter. Like which bacaro serves the best cicchetti nearby, or the fastest route to avoid the tourist bottlenecks when you’re trying to get somewhere. They also helped me figure out the whole Venice transportation thing, which can be pretty confusing on your first visit.
Why Guests Love It
What makes SAN LUCA 1836 work so well is that sweet spot it hits between location and value. You’re staying in prime real estate — seriously, some of the Venice hotels with this kind of positioning charge twice as much. Couples especially seem to love it here, and I can see why. There’s something romantic about being able to wander through those narrow streets at night and actually know you’re just a few minutes from your bed. Plus, you get that authentic Venetian neighborhood feel without sacrificing access to all the major sights. It’s the kind of place where you feel like you’re living in Venice for a few days, not just visiting it.

Quite authentic furniture and a lovely feel of Venice. Really good value for the price. Facilities good. The owner is a guide so if she is available recommend ordering a tour in town. Also for breakfast we went to the fish market to get fresh fish. It's closer than it looks. And recommend a bakery one block away. Great place all round.

The location is amazing. A 2 minute walk to the Rialto bridge and 10 minute walk to St Mark’s Square.
What could be improved: The new air conditioning units were very noisy.Ekaterina from Georgia – 23 May 2024 (9/10)
Great location ❤️ attentive host❤️
Lauren from United Kingdom – 23 August 2023 (9/10)
Spacious bedrooms and living area, location was excellent, only a stone’s throw from the Rialto Bridge and close to shops, pasticceria, supermarket, etc. Our host Francesco was incredibly helpful with arranging restaurant bookings, taxi’s, info on the area, and we had a great night out with him and his gondolier friends too!
What could be improved: Kitchen is a little under equipped for the number of people the apartment sleeps, likewise with seating in the living area. A lot of stairs to get up so tricking moving luggage.Kevin from United Kingdom – 18 August 2023 (9/10)
Excellent central location with lots of space and facilities. Very helpful and supportive hosts.
What could be improved: Quite a few stairs if have lots of luggage.Erin from Australia – 26 July 2023 (9/10)
