Walking up to San Marco – 2 bedrooms with lift, you’ll immediately notice how the building fits seamlessly into the historic fabric of Venice — which honestly makes sense, given that you’re literally in San Marco, the beating heart of the city. The entrance might seem modest at first, but that’s typical for Venetian properties where space is at such a premium. What really caught my attention was how they’ve managed to install a proper lift in what’s clearly an older building, and trust me, after hauling luggage over countless bridges to get here, you’ll appreciate that detail more than you might expect.

Location & Neighborhood

I mean, you really can’t get more central than this — San Marco 2144 puts you right in the thick of everything that makes Venice magical. St. Mark’s Square is practically on your doorstep, which means you can easily pop out for an early morning coffee before the crowds descend, or take a late evening stroll when the piazza takes on that golden, almost ethereal quality. The Doge’s Palace, the basilica, those famous cafes with their orchestras — it’s all within a few minutes’ walk. You know what’s particularly nice? You can actually hear the bells of St. Mark’s from the apartment, which sounds touristy but genuinely adds to the atmosphere.

The Apartment

This three-star property offers two separate bedrooms, which works brilliantly if you’re traveling as couples or a small family who wants a bit of space to spread out. The rooms aren’t huge — this is Venice, after all — but they’re thoughtfully arranged and you’ll find everything you need without feeling cramped. The fact that there’s a lift is honestly a game-changer here, especially since many comparable places in this area are walk-ups that’ll have you questioning your packing choices by the third flight. The apartment has that lived-in Venetian feel without being overly ornate, and the windows offer glimpses of the narrow streets below where you can watch the daily ballet of locals navigating their way through the tourist streams.

Getting Around

One thing I really appreciated was how walkable everything is from here — you’re close enough to the major vaporetto stops that getting to other parts of Venice is straightforward, but you’re also in prime walking territory for the main sights. The Rialto Bridge is about a ten-minute stroll through some genuinely charming back streets, and if you’re heading to the train station or Piazzale Roma, the water bus connections are easy to figure out. Actually, being this central means you’ll probably end up walking more than taking boats, which saves money and gives you those spontaneous moments of discovering a hidden campo or stumbling across a perfect little bacaro.

Why Guests Love It

Couples particularly seem to connect with this place, and I can see why — there’s something romantic about having your own little Venetian pied-à-terre right in the historic center. The location score of 8.7 really speaks for itself, but beyond the obvious convenience, it’s the small touches that matter: being able to duck inside when the day-tripper crowds get overwhelming, having space to actually unpack and settle in, and that sense of living like a local (even temporarily) rather than just passing through.   Location to lots of high-end shopping and the bonus was having a washing machine inside the room. Decent water pressure in the bathrooms.
  
  What could be improved: No AC in one of the bedrooms, no instructions on how to operate the stove, we've never seen where you have to push a button on the wall for the stove to light up. Could use more pans, a spatula and informational map of Venice streets. Directions on how to get to the apartment was a little confusing when first arriving. Shower in the bathroom where the washer was located had a wobbly shower wall/door and leaked. No washcloths in bathrooms.

  Location was great being very short walking distance to San Marco, very spacious facilities for family of 5 adults. Kitchen facilities were fine for our 3 night stay – though we mostly ate out. Loved having 2 bathrooms and large lounge area with plenty of seating options and the lift was greatly appreciated for 2 of our family with dodgy knees. Hosts very helpful in organising airport transfers for us.
  
  What could be improved: We had a little trouble finding the place and working out how to get the keys out of the lockbox, despite the detailed and otherwise helpful instructions (May have been just us being tired but the photos of front doors in wrong order also threw us). One of the showers didn't work, although they did come very promptly and tried to fix it, it still didn't work again the next morning. There is construction going on closeby (next door) but we knew to expect this from the reviews and it didn't really bother us too much except for the 8am start by the workers.

  Fantastic location! very helpful staff, by email, who also aided us with our transfer bookings too. The apartment is very spacious and, overall, good value for prime location.
  
  What could be improved: – Very dated inside and would be amazing if updated. Many appliances were looking very tired.
  – Ongoing scaffolding outside and we were not aware of this at the time of booking (noise, aesthetics, etc). The surprise of the scaffolding work did disappoint me on arrival, it wouldn’t have stopped me booking this, but would have been nice to know.
  – Wi-Fi hit and miss
  – water in one bathroom would not heat
  – Bath enamel was broken, shower unruly and panel broken.
  – Sofa bed was very uncomfortable

  Very spacious property with 2 well equipped bathrooms. Separate kitchen with dining table allowed us to close off the living/ dining area to make for an additional bedroom using the sofa bed.

  What could be improved: Difficult to find on Google maps but once we actually read the property explanation it was no problem.
