First Impressions

Walking through the narrow Venetian streets to find San Polo Studio feels like a treasure hunt — and honestly, that’s half the charm. This three-star property sits tucked away on Ramo dei Calegheri, which is actually one of those little side streets that locals use as shortcuts between the Rialto Bridge and San Marco. You know what struck me first? How quiet it gets once you step inside, despite being right in the thick of everything.

Location & Neighborhood

The San Polo district is where Venice really shows its personality — I mean, you’re literally a two-minute walk from the Rialto Market, where vendors have been selling fresh fish since the 11th century. The location score of 9.1 makes perfect sense when you realize you can grab morning coffee at a local bacaro, wander over to see the Frari Church (those Titian paintings are incredible), and still make it to San Marco Square in under ten minutes on foot. Couples especially seem to love this area, and I get it — there’s something romantic about getting slightly lost in these medieval streets together.

The Space

The studio setup works really well for what it is. You get a compact but thoughtfully arranged room that feels more like a pied-à-terre than a typical hotel space. The kitchenette is small but functional — perfect for making morning espresso or storing those amazing pastries from the bakery around the corner. I actually appreciated having that little bit of independence, especially when you want to enjoy a glass of Prosecco while watching the evening light hit the buildings across the canal.

Daily Life

What I loved most was how the place lets you live like a temporary Venetian. There’s no formal restaurant or big lobby scene, which means you’re naturally drawn to explore the neighborhood for meals. The nearby osterie serve some of the best cicchetti (Venetian tapas) in the city — try the place with the handwritten menu, you’ll know it when you see it. The staff gives solid recommendations too, and they seem to actually know the area rather than just reading from a script.

Why Guests Love It

This isn’t the kind of place where you’ll spend much time in your room during the day, and that’s exactly the point. The real value is stepping out your door and being immediately immersed in authentic Venice — not the touristy version, but the one where you hear locals chatting in Venetian dialect and smell fresh bread from family-run bakeries. The couples who rate this location so highly (8.8 out of 10) probably figured out what I did: sometimes the best experience is simply being in the right place, surrounded by centuries of history, without paying five-star prices for it.

  The location was good and there was lots of hot water.
  
  What could be improved: The property needs work. The property felt damp and there was evidence that the walls had been painted over damp patches. There is fitted wardrobes to the rear of the property and we feel this maybe a source of mould and damp. The bed should be changed immediately as the headboard which is part of the bed is so deteriorated that if you sat up in bed pieces of the bed fell off in your hair or onto the bed, this means that this cannot be cleaned properly. The bedding was old, there was only one pillow each which needed to be replaced immediately. There was one brown blanket which was also old and shows wear with pilling. The sheets were clean. One of the wall heaters in the bedroom was not working. The stove was rusty and we did not feel we could use it safely. The bathroom was modern and there was lots of hot water, however there was a terrible smell coming from the sink . The bathroom did not have any ventilation fan so this could have contributed to the damn conditions and the smell. The heated towel rail was not working so we had to dry our towels on the bar stools next to the heater in the kitchen area which made the room damp. I have enclosed photos for your reference. In our opinion this property needs urgent attention and some expenditure then it would be a desirable location as it is it falls below any reasonable standard and we could not recommend.

  Buena ubicación y no olía mal como ponía en otras reseñas. Comodidad a la hora de entrar al alojamiento con el código de la puerta para recoger las llaves.
  
  What could be improved: Cuando vas por turismo a una ciudad como Venecia y llegas cansado de andar todo el día, lo que necesitas es descansar y una cama cómoda, por ello, recomiendo al alojamiento que cambien a menudo la cama, porque el colchón no era cómodo y con el paso de tanta gente se nota muchisimo. También tendrían que hacer una limpieza a fondo de telarañas y pintar el apartamento más a menudo con el dinero que cobran.. No usamos la cocina, por lo que no la puedo valorar mucho, pero creo que no funcionaba muy bien.

  La ubicación está muy bien. El baño súper cómodo. El ambiente en general está muy bien
  
  What could be improved: Falta luz en la puerta de ingreso de la calle. Pondría alguna mesa de noche y algún enchufe cerca de la cama. Lamentablemente hay olor a humedad, lo he leído en otros comentarios pero hay que tener en cuenta que es una planta baja en Venecia (que es una isla), creo que es casi inevitable

  Close to the water taxi stop in San Toma.
  
  What could be improved: The property nagged us for a week to check in & the procedure didn’t work on the first few attempts. The check-in instructions state to go to the property & then send message through Booking & they would remotely open the door. Don’t happen! We stood in the rain, I sent several messages, nothing. I called the listed number & got a voicemail. I called the emergency number & spoke with a rude person who was unhelpful for many minutes, finally buzzed us in & hung up on me.
  We walked into a “entrance/foyer” which looked like someone’s garage with many bags of garbage by the door. The smell was very bad.
  We opened the apartment door & smelled cat urine & black mold. We should have left at that point. We knew it would be small, but didn’t expect it to be filthy & have nauseous odors. We tried to stay out of the apartment as much as possible & only went there to sleep. We rent apartments so we can cook breakfast in the morning but this place was so disgusting we didn’t dare.
  The electricity went off on the second day & we had to call again. The young man who helped us was trying his best but failed to communicate the unmarked location of the second breaker box in the foyer/entrance which are up more of our vacation time.

  Un soggiorno meraviglioso in questo bellissimo appartamento situato nella zona di San Polo, vicino ai Frari. La posizione è perfetta, con numerosi locali e bar nelle vicinanze, e il centro città è facilmente raggiungibile a piedi. Il Wi-Fi è estremamente veloce. Check-in autonomo, che mi ha permesso una maggiore flessibilità. Consiglio vivamente questo posto a chiunque voglia vivere un'esperienza autentica a Venezia. Grazie
