San Rocco Apartment Overview

First Impressions

Walking through the narrow streets of San Polo to reach San Rocco Apartment, you’ll quickly realize you’ve stumbled onto something special. This three-star property sits right in the heart of one of Venice’s most authentic neighborhoods — honestly, the location alone makes it worth considering. The building itself has that weathered Venetian charm you’re hoping for, and when you step inside, there’s an immediate sense that you’re staying somewhere locals would actually choose, not just another tourist trap.

The San Polo Advantage

Here’s what I love about this area — you’re close enough to the major sights that you can easily walk to the Rialto Bridge or St. Mark’s Square, but far enough away that you escape the worst of the crowds each evening. San Polo has this wonderful mix of neighborhood restaurants, local bars, and tiny shops that haven’t been completely overrun by souvenir stands. The apartment‘s location score of 8.6 isn’t just numbers on a page; couples consistently rate it highly because you can actually have romantic evening strolls without fighting through tour groups every few steps.

The Space Itself

The apartment feels authentically Venetian without being stuffy about it. You’ll find the rooms are thoughtfully arranged — not huge by any means (this is Venice, after all), but cleverly designed to make the most of the space. The furnishings strike that sweet spot between comfortable and characterful, and there are enough modern touches that you won’t feel like you’re roughing it. What really impressed me was how quiet it gets at night, which is actually pretty remarkable given how central you are.

Getting Around

One thing that makes San Rocco Apartment particularly smart is how it connects to the rest of Venice. You’re a short walk from multiple vaporetto stops, which means day trips to Murano or Burano are totally doable. But honestly, you might find yourself just wandering the neighborhood more than you expected — there’s something addictive about discovering tiny bridges and hidden squares that most visitors never see. The morning walk to grab coffee and pastries becomes this little ritual that makes you feel less like a tourist and more like a temporary resident.

Why Guests Love It

What keeps people coming back to this place is that perfect balance of authenticity and comfort. You’re not paying five-star prices, but you’re getting an experience that feels genuinely Venetian rather than manufactured for tourists. The 8.1 rating reflects what you’d expect — solid, reliable, and well-positioned without any major surprises (good or bad). It’s the kind of place where you can imagine settling in for several days, using it as your base to really explore Venice properly rather than just checking off the major sights. For couples especially, there’s something romantic about having your own little corner of this impossible city.

Reviews of San Rocco Apartment

  • Christopher from France – 10 February 2025 (9/10)

Everything. Good location, few minutes walk from Bus station. Very quiet. Nice decor.

What could be improved: Nothing to dislike

  • Vanessa from Australia – 13 November 2024 (8/10)

It was in a great location. Easy to get to from the station. Was set up well and next to a quiet canal. Close to cafes, bars and restaurants.

What could be improved: Difficulty with the front door lock but learnt the trick.

  • Mandy from United Kingdom – 20 October 2024 (9/10)

Great location. Quiet. Outdoor space. Well equipped. Comfortable.

    What could be improved: Nothing.

  • Tatjana from Sweden – 8 July 2024 (8/10)

Nice apartment with all necessary equipment. Very central with lot of restaurants.

  • Leonie from South Africa – 30 September 2023 (9/10)

The apartment was neat and clean and was in a great area that was easily accessible to the train station and close to great bars and restaurants. A close walk to st marks square and other great tourist attractions. I would book this apartment again. Earnest who met us to check us in was so helpful and gave us great tips on the city of Venice.

What could be improved: No complaints

  • Iraj from United States – 25 June 2023 (8/10)

    1. Good location.
    2. Very large and clean room.
    3. Large bathroom.

What could be improved: 1. Struggled to get to the apartment from the train station because Booking.com has District and not exact Street address listed for this apartment.
Wish there was exact STREET address and NOT the District address TO BEGIN WITH.
Ask for the STREET address if you're booking this apartment.
    2. We were provided with only 2 large and 2 small towels for 4 days / 3 nights.
Washing machine was broken and we couldn't use it.
    3. This is one room (studio) and not one-bedroom apartment.
P.S. One-bedroom apartment generally refers to 1 bedroom + 1 leaving room, which this apartment is not, so this is one room / studio apartment (although very large).

  • Ollie from United Kingdom – 11 June 2023 (7/10)

The location of this apartment is brilliant – very secure and quiet.
Our host Freddy was very helpful and informative.
The balcony was a lovely place to sit and relax.

What could be improved: The front door to the accommodation was very difficult to open which meant we spent 30 mins each day trying to open it.
Also on our first day the boiler wasn’t working which meant we had to have cold showers, it was fixed later on in the day.
The shower itself had good pressure, but the shower head is faulty and it sprays in all directions, making it quite unpleasant to use.
There were mosquitoes in the room and this meant me and my partner got a few bites during our stay.
We were told initially that we could do a self check in, but when we queried where to collect the keys the night before arriving we were told that it was no longer offered, meaning we had to rush from the airport to get there before 8:30pm to avoid a late check in fee of €35.

  • Jennifer from Australia – 17 January 2023 (9/10)

the location was perfect for my stay,

    What could be improved: ?

  • Gina from United Kingdom – 27 June 2022 (9/10)

The check-in was excellently carried out by Ernst, extremely thorough and informative and an information folder was left at the property too. We were very pleased that the accommodation met all our expectations and was just as described.

What could be improved: A minor point – no doubt the owners are aware that the shower hose and head are spraying everywhere and that they ideally need some attention/maintenance.

  • Sara from Germany – 21 June 2022 (8/10)

    Excellent location.
    Residential building, not tourist.
    Good air-conditioning.
    Balcony was a bonus.
    Good bed linen and towels.
    Large bed.

What could be improved: Furniture was functional but old.
Kitchen could do with an upgrade. Also kitchen: better quality cooking utensils would be an improvement (crockery was fine).
Mosquito blinds were a little difficult to use partly because the chains seemed to be broken (but the blinds were efficient when in place).
