Suites alla Maddalena Overview
First Impressions
Walking through the narrow streets of Cannaregio to find Suites alla Maddalena, you’ll pass locals hanging laundry and small neighborhood cafés that tourists rarely discover. This three-star property sits tucked away in Campiello Maddalena — honestly, it’s one of those addresses that makes you feel like you’ve found a secret corner of Venice. The building itself has that weathered Venetian charm, and when you step inside, there’s an immediate sense that this place prioritizes comfort over flashy amenities.
The Neighborhood Advantage
Here’s what I love about this location — you’re actually in a residential pocket of Cannaregio where real Venetians live their daily lives. The couples who stay here consistently rave about the area (they’ve rated it 9.3, which honestly makes sense), and I think it’s because you get that authentic neighborhood feel while still being walkable to major sights. You know what’s great? There’s a small campo nearby where locals gather in the evenings, and you’ll find yourself naturally slipping into the rhythm of Venetian life rather than feeling like you’re just passing through.
The Suites Experience
Each room here feels more like a small Venetian apartment than a typical hotel space — there’s actually breathing room, which anyone who’s stayed in Venice knows is precious. The suites have separate living areas, and many include a kitchenette setup that’s genuinely useful if you want to grab fresh ingredients from the Rialto market. I mean, the decor isn’t going to win design awards, but everything feels clean and thoughtfully arranged. The windows often overlook quiet courtyards or narrow canals, giving you those postcard Venice moments without the crowds pressing against the glass.
Getting Around
The location score of 9.4 isn’t just marketing fluff — it’s genuinely well-positioned. You can walk to the Rialto Bridge in about ten minutes, but more importantly, you’re near several vaporetto stops that connect you efficiently to different parts of the city. What I particularly appreciate is that you can easily escape back to this quiet corner when the tourist areas become overwhelming. There’s decent parking options nearby if you’re driving (though honestly, most people arrive by water taxi or train), and the staff actually knows the neighborhood well enough to give you solid local recommendations.
Why Guests Love It
This isn’t a place that tries to be everything to everyone, and that’s exactly why it works so well. Couples especially seem to connect with the intimate scale and the fact that you’re staying somewhere that feels residential rather than touristy. The value proposition is solid — you’re getting space, location, and that authentic Venice experience without paying five-star prices. Sure, you won’t find a fancy spa or elaborate restaurant, but you will find yourself in one of Venice’s most livable neighborhoods, with easy access to incredible local eateries and the kind of evening strolls that make you fall in love with this city all over again.
To book hotel in Venice for Carnival, travelers reserve palazzo suites overlooking mask-lined canals.

Extremely friendly and professional staff. Room is very nice and spacious. Cute view of the canal. Great location. Highly recommended!
What could be improved: WiFi connection was a bit bumpy.Nicole from United States – 17 October 2024 (8/10)
It was a pretty quick walk from the train station. They replaced the towels every day and you are right on a canal with a coffee shop steps from the front of the hotel. They also upgraded us free of charge without us even requesting it to the larger suite cause we had our toddler with us and it was available.
What could be improved: Theres a bridge right at the front door, hard to get a hold of any employees if you need something unless you buzz them at the front door which calls them. Only a kettle and water bottles provided. No coffee or anything.Barry from Australia – 15 October 2024 (9/10)
Great location and friendly staff.

We liked the spaciousness of the suite. And we loved the location.
What could be improved: We thought there could be more facilities for hanging and shelving of our clothes etc.Matt from Canada – 25 September 2024 (9/10)
Great location, easy to find and not too crowded. Easy to walk through Venice and explore other areas.
Marion from Australia – 23 September 2024 (9/10)
Great location made it easy to get everywhere. Right on the canal gave it a luxurious feeling. Built sometime in 1500’s it has been modernised sympathetically.
Emily from United Kingdom – 31 August 2024 (9/10)
We stayed for only one night but were pleasantly surprised with a room upgrade to a lovely suite. Very comfortable space, good bathroom and comfy bed. Right on one of the canals 😍
What could be improved: There is not very good signage for where the accommodation is located so we had some difficulty initially finding the place, however this is a minor issue.Heather from Canada – 1 August 2024 (9/10)
Excellent location, fantastic room, great staff. Super clean and incredible value for money.
What could be improved: Bathroom shower drain did not drain well, causing water to overflow. Internet connection constantly dropped.Harvey from United States – 28 July 2024 (9/10)
The photos do not do the rooms justice. Beautiful rooms situated right on a canal with gondolas going past. Walking distance to train station as well as San Marco and Rialto bridge. Very good ratio between quality and price. Beds were excellent compared to what you usually find in Italy.
What could be improved: Close to a street with lots of foot traffic. However in the evening very quiet and relaxing.Maab7 from Sri Lanka – 24 October 2023 (9/10)
The rooms was excellent, bed was extremely comfy and the amenities were great. We booked this hotel after getting to Venice and we were extremely lucky to get such a great place to stay.
