Hotel Description
I remember stepping off the vaporetto at Arsenale – you know, that stop that’s not as jammed as San Marco but still drops you right into the heart of Castello – and weaving my way down Salisada Sant’Antonin to find the Venice Holiday Terrace. It’s tucked away on this narrow little street, sort of hidden behind those classic Venetian facades with the faded ochre walls and wrought-iron balconies that always make you feel like you’ve stumbled into a postcard. Honestly, arriving in the late afternoon light, with the salty lagoon air mixing with the faint smell of fresh bread from that bakery around the corner on Campo San Lorenzo, it felt like I’d escaped the tourist crush without sacrificing the magic. Check-in was a breeze – the owner, this warm local guy named Marco (I think?), chatted with me about the best time to hit the nearby Rialto Market for cheap cicchetti, and he even pointed out a shortcut to avoid the summer crowds. No parking hassles, obviously, since Venice is all about boats and feet, but if you’re lugging bags, it’s a flat 10-minute walk from the stop, which is doable even after a long flight.
What really sold me on this place – and it’s a solid 4-star spot with that sky-high 9.7 rating for a reason – is the terrace. Oh man, that rooftop setup overlooking the terracotta roofs and glimpses of the lagoon, it’s like your own private slice of Venice without the elbow-to-elbow nonsense of the bigger hotels. I spent mornings up there with my espresso, listening to the church bells from San Giorgio dei Greci chime softly (they’re just a stone’s throw away), and evenings watching the sun dip while sipping a spritz – though fair warning, it can get a tad windy in the shoulder seasons, so pack a light jacket. The rooms are cozy, with those high ceilings and exposed beams that scream old-world charm, but updated with comfy beds and rainfall showers that actually work (unlike some spots I’ve crashed in nearby). It’s in Castello, which is more residential, so you get that authentic vibe – locals chatting in the alleys, kids playing football in the campos – without the constant buzz of tour groups. Noise-wise, it’s pretty quiet at night, except maybe the occasional boat horn from the canal, but nothing that kept me up. I mean, well, there was that one morning when construction on Via Garibaldi woke me early, but that’s Venice for you; things are always being patched up.
All in all, if you’re after a place that feels lived-in and genuine, not some glossy chain, this is it – especially in the off-season like early spring when the terrace is all yours and the rates don’t sting as much. I’d go back in a heartbeat for that balance of peace and proximity; you’re a quick stroll from the Biennale gardens for some culture, or hop on a boat to Murano. Just remember to book ahead in high summer, ’cause spots like this fill up fast with folks who know better than to cram into the San Marco chaos.

What could be improved: Up three flights of stairs. I would still choose the property again.Ting-en from Taiwan – 14 September 2023 (9/10)
The terrace is amazing. You can see the city view during sunset everyday.
What could be improved: Stairs are a bit steep. Maybe not so suitable for people with mobility issue.Jan from Australia – 18 May 2023 (10/10)
It was a bit of a hike up the stairs but the views were worth it. The terrace was a fabulous place to hang out looking across the rooftops of Venice, kitchen and lounge area were small but stylish and well appointed, reasonable sized bedrooms and comfortable beds. Two couples were easily accommodated here and everyone was pleased with the choice. Highly recommended. Easy interaction with owner.
What could be improved: A bigger inside living area would be good, but not possible. It wasn't a problem for usEva from Germany – 14 April 2023 (10/10)
