I arrived via vaporetto from Santa Lucia station – it’s about a 15-minute walk from there, dodging the narrow calli that twist like old vines, but hey, that’s Venice for you. No cars, obviously, so pack light or prepare for some shoulder strain with your luggage. Check-in was a breeze; the host met me at the door with a warm smile and a quick rundown of the neighborhood – she even pointed out the quiet shortcut to Campo San Polo for evening gelato runs. It’s not flawless; the stairs up to the apartment might challenge anyone with mobility issues (no elevator, classic old building), but that just adds to the immersion. I’ve recommended it to friends heading to Venice for the Biennale, and they raved about how it felt like their own pied-à-terre, steps from gems like the Frari Church or a quick hop to the fish stalls at Rialto. Honestly, in a city that can overwhelm with its beauty and bustle, this place grounds you – makes you want to linger longer, maybe skip the gondola and just explore on foot.
