First Impressions

Walking into Antica Residenza Veneziana feels like stepping into someone’s elegant Venetian home — which, honestly, is exactly what it used to be. This three-star gem sits right in the heart of Dorsoduro, and I mean right in the thick of things. The entrance is understated in that perfectly Italian way, where you might almost walk past it if you weren’t looking carefully. But once you’re inside, the original period details and warm lighting immediately tell you this place has stories to tell.

Location & Neighborhood

Dorsoduro is hands down one of my favorite areas in Venice — it’s got this authentic, lived-in feel that you don’t get around San Marco. You’re literally a few minutes’ walk from the Peggy Guggenheim Collection and the Accademia Bridge, but you’re also surrounded by local cafés where actual Venetians grab their morning espresso. The couples who stay here absolutely get it — there’s something romantic about wandering these quieter canals without fighting through cruise ship crowds. Plus, you can actually find a decent spritz at normal prices in the neighborhood bars.

The Room Experience

The room here aren’t huge (this is Venice, after all), but they’re thoughtfully designed with period furniture that feels authentic rather than touristy. My room had these gorgeous wooden beams and windows that opened onto a narrow canal — you know, the kind of view that makes you forget you’re in a three-star place. The beds are comfortable, and honestly, the air conditioning works better than some fancier hotels I’ve stayed at in the city. Storage is a bit tight, but if you’re smart about packing, it’s totally manageable.

Daily Life & Amenities

Breakfast happens in this charming little space that feels more like a family dining room than a hotel buffet area. It’s nothing fancy — typical Italian continental spread with good coffee, fresh pastries, and local honey. What I really appreciated was how the staff genuinely seemed to care about helping guests navigate the city. They’ll give you actual useful tips, like which vaporetto stops to avoid during rush hour, rather than just handing you a generic map. There’s no spa or fancy amenities, but that’s not really the point of this place.

Why Guests Love It

This hotel works because it doesn’t try to be something it’s not. You’re staying in a beautifully preserved Venetian residence in one of the city’s most authentic neighborhoods, with owners who actually care about your experience. The recent guests’ high ratings make total sense — it’s the kind of place where you feel like you’re experiencing real Venice rather than tourist Venice. Sure, you won’t have a concierge or room service, but you’ll have something better: a genuine connection to this incredible city and a base that lets you explore it like locals do.

  Nagyon szép volt a szállás, rendkívül csendes és hangulatos környéken. Tágas szoba, csendes a környező többi ház is és gyönyörű kilátás nyílik a lagúnára. A szállásadó rögtön és pontosan válaszolt minden kérdésünkre és kérésünkre. Zökkenőmentes és pihentető volt az utazásunk hála neki!

  It is in a less touristy and crowded neighborhood… the most bohemian location in Venice, with good restaurants and lots of local art and culture.

  What could be improved: We couldn’t use the bathroom on the day of our arrival as there was a problem, up until the next morning. We were not offered another room or another alternative and we were not offered a refund or upgrade or anything for the inconvenience. There is no lift.
