First Impressions

Walking up to PEGGY-Guggenheim, you’ll immediately notice something different about this three-star hotel — it’s literally next door to one of Venice’s most famous art museums. I mean, the address says it all: Dorsoduro 687 Guggenheim Museum. The building itself has that understated Venetian charm you’d expect in this part of the city, without trying too hard to compete with its world-renowned neighbor. It’s refreshingly unpretentious, honestly, which I found quite appealing after seeing so many over-the-top places elsewhere in Venice.

Location & Neighborhood

Here’s the thing about Dorsoduro — it’s where you want to be if you’re looking for that authentic Venice vibe without the crushing crowds of San Marco. The hotel sits in what locals and visitors consistently rate as the top area in Venice, and after spending time there, I totally get why it scored a 9.5 for location. You’re a short walk from the Peggy Guggenheim Collection (obviously), but also close to the Accademia Bridge and some genuinely excellent bacari that tourists haven’t completely discovered yet. The neighborhood has this artistic, slightly bohemian feel that’s perfect for couples — which explains why so many pairs rate this place highly for romantic getaways.

The Rooms

Don’t expect upscale suites here, but the rooms are comfortable and well-maintained in that practical Italian way. What struck me most was how quiet everything felt, despite being in such a central location. The windows actually block out most of the canal noise, and you know how rare that can be in Venice. The bathrooms are compact but functional — typical for a three-star property in this city where space is always at a premium. I appreciated the attention to cleanliness and the fact that everything just worked properly, which isn’t always a given in older Venetian buildings.

Getting Around

One of the best things about staying at PEGGY-Guggenheim is how walkable everything becomes. You can stroll to the Rialto Bridge in about fifteen minutes, or catch a vaporetto right from the nearby Accademia stop if your feet need a break. The hotel staff actually knows the area well — they gave me directions to a fantastic osteria that I never would have found otherwise. Plus, being in Dorsoduro means you’re away from the main tourist stampede routes, so morning walks feel almost peaceful (well, as peaceful as Venice gets).

Why Guests Love It

What really makes this place work is the combination of location and value. You’re paying three-star prices to stay in Venice’s most desirable neighborhood, steps from major attractions but tucked away enough to feel like you’ve discovered something special. The 7.8 rating reflects exactly what you’d expect — solid, reliable accommodation without any major surprises, good or bad. Couples especially seem to appreciate the romantic setting and the fact that you can walk hand-in-hand through some of Venice’s most beautiful, less-crowded streets right from your doorstep.

  What could be improved: Loved everything except the man who gets up at 5am and paints outside the Guggenheim wakes you up with his terrible selling technique to any poor passers by.

  What could be improved: bedding and towels were extremely old and shabby and lounge furniture was tired and uncomfortable. Kitchen was missing some basic essentials. It was also extremely noisy from 6am to late at night.

  What could be improved: We were in Venice, and the apartment was very cold because the temperatures dropped. However there was no heat in the apartment because the air conditioner didn’t work. The central heating didn’t either. The owner could have provided an electric heater at least. Also the electric kettle was not functioning.

  The location was the most important thing to us, near Academia and lots to see. The apartment was adequate but a bit tired, could do with refreshing. The keyholder was very helpful. The bed was comfortable and the apartment adequately equipped.
  
  What could be improved: Lacking in electric lights at night. No welcome pack at all. Some milk would have been good. Cramped bathroom, could do with a couple of hooks and a shelf. No mosquito nets on windows!!!

  What could be improved: Everything was great, just one thing, once it happened that the water was turned off unexpectedly, by coincidence we were in the shower… otherwise really everything is perfect.

  Nice roomy place. Good situation. Nice with the late check-in although it took some insisting. Generally well equipped and confy.
  
  What could be improved: Unclear directions to get the key late at night. The video showed a different place than the map, the map being correct. Also a bit confusing the entrance door having a different nummer than the adress.
  Dirty and very old fridge needed kicking to close. The single bed was very uncomfortable, the double was fine.

  This apartment is in a great spot next to the Guggenheim! so close to everything and like you live in Venice. Lovely artworks, spacious, clean and comfy furnishings.
  
  What could be improved: I love this apartment but it would be even better if there was a little clothes washing detergent, coffee, oil, pepper which there was the last stay I had there in 2019. There were three large pots but this made it difficult if cooking small things. A frypan is needed! It was noisy in evenings with passers by which is to be expected. mosquitos too but I was prepared. However a painter set up at 6:30am talking loudly to all passersby in the calle which was annoying every morning to be woken up by. Even with earplugs! Despite all this I will book again as I love it despite these aspects.

  The location was perfect, and the apartment was spacious. Compared to other options in Venice, I think it's a fair price.
  
  What could be improved: The cleanliness was ok, with the exception of the dead mosquitoes still sticking on the walls. What I really didn't like was the noise of the front door slamming shut, right below our bed, which woke us up every morning when the first person left the house, sometimes around 6am. There was also a painter right below our window, who had a conversation with just about every passer-by – at a level that we could understand every word…
  Finally, I don't think it's fair having to carry our the trash early in the morning when on holiday. We do of course keep the apartment clean, but we could not avoid to leave a bit of trash behind.
