At Home a Palazzo Overview

First Impressions

Walking down Calle Racchetta in Cannaregio, you might almost miss At Home a Palazzo if you’re not paying attention — and honestly, that’s part of its charm. This three-star boutique property sits tucked away in one of Venice’s most authentic neighborhoods, where you’ll hear more Italian than English echoing off the canal walls. The entrance feels intimate rather than grand, which I actually prefer — it’s like being welcomed into someone’s carefully restored Venetian home rather than checking into a corporate hotel.

The Cannaregio Advantage

Here’s what I love about this location: you’re genuinely in Venice, not tourist Venice. Cannaregio gives you that perfect balance where you can grab morning coffee with locals at the corner bar, then walk fifteen minutes to San Marco when you want the full spectacle. The couples who stay here seem to get it — there’s something romantic about wandering these quieter canals in the evening, especially when you know you’re staying somewhere that feels more like a neighborhood secret. You know what’s brilliant? The property scored a 9.0 for location, and after spending time here, I completely understand why.

Your Room Experience

The room I stayed in had that wonderful Venetian character — think exposed beams and period details, but with modern comfort where it actually matters. The beds are genuinely comfortable (not always a given in historic Italian properties), and the bathrooms work properly, which might sound basic but trust me, it’s not guaranteed in Venice. What struck me most was how quiet everything felt, despite being in the heart of the city. The windows open onto typical Venetian views — not necessarily postcard perfect, but authentically atmospheric in that way that makes you feel like you’re actually living here for a few days.

Morning Rituals

The Italian buffet breakfast deserves a mention because it’s done thoughtfully rather than just efficiently. Fresh pastries, proper coffee, and local touches that remind you where you are — I mean, this isn’t some international chain setup. The breakfast area has a cozy feel, and there’s usually a nice mix of guests chatting quietly over their cappuccinos. It’s the kind of morning routine that makes you want to linger a bit longer before heading out to explore the city.

Why Guests Love It

At Home a Palazzo works because it delivers on its promise — you really do feel at home in Venice, just in a much nicer palazzo than most of us could afford to buy. The staff knows the neighborhood well and can point you toward the good local spots, not just the obvious tourist traps. For couples especially, there’s something appealing about having this quiet base in Cannaregio where you can retreat after long days of sightseeing. It’s not trying to be the fanciest place in Venice, but it’s comfortable, well-located, and genuinely charming in that understated Italian way that grows on you.

Reviews of At Home a Palazzo

  • Paula from Ireland – 15 December 2024 (9/10)

Absolutely loved the place, it was so central, lovely built, so clean and tidy, beds and towels clean, rooms cleaned daily, sweet breakfast included from the owner, she prepared us fresh apple pie in the morning. she was so sweet, looking after us, ensurensuring we are comfortable. The house is beautifully preserved in time, so many things explore around apartment. Thank you so much for such a warm welcome back in September, we would love to come back again!

What could be improved: There is no lift, which could be an issue for travellers with a lot of bags, we only travelled with backpack so it wasn't an issue.

  • Dorin from Romania – 22 October 2024 (8/10)

Big room, clean, quiet, charming old house, the lady of the house very sweet, helpful.

What could be improved: Breakfast should have more variety, the room a bit cold in the evening, but we had extra blankets.

  • Linda from United States – 6 October 2024 (7/10)

Lovely proprietor, quiet location, old world charm

What could be improved: Many floors walk-up with luggage, poor bathroom facilities, especially shower

  • Eivind from United States – 14 September 2024 (8/10)

What could be improved: airport direction to apt.

Rosa was an amazing host. Very welcoming. The room was clean and cute and a very good size. Breakfast was delicious and on time. Great coffee!!!!

What could be improved: Shower had low pressure.

  • Gail from United Kingdom – 20 May 2024 (8/10)

Building was amazing, so much history. Situation was perfect, easy access to vaporettos and ferries to airport and other islands. Fairly quiet area, close to small but good range of shops and restaurants.
The room was great size, bathroom good too. The main reception room was fabulous with beautiful personal furniture and other items.
The owner/Senora was a lovely lady, very helpful. I would definitely stay there again.

What could be improved: Breakfast options were basic: cereal (but the milk was not fresh), toast, juice drink (also not fresh) and cake (which would not be my choice for breakfast). Perhaps addition of plain yogurt, hard boiled eggs, sliced meat and some fresh berries or fruit.
Room was lovely but quite dusty in places.

  • Michelle from Hong Kong – 8 November 2023 (8/10)

Very nice stay with Rosa! The flat is very clean and spacious, located in a classy historical building. It's good to learn more about Venice thorough living there!

Absolutely perfect location. Lovely continental breakfast with hot toast and Italian coffee! The ferry from the airport stops 5 minutes from the location, the the Canale Grande Ca D’Oro vaporetto stop is 5 minutes the other way.

What could be improved: The stairs! The owner could not get permission for a lift as it’s Venice and everything is a valuable antique!
