Hotel Description
You know, the first time I stumbled upon B&B Le Marie, I was weaving through those narrow calli in Castello after hopping off the vaporetto at San Zaccaria – honestly, it’s a bit of a hike if you’ve got luggage, but that’s Venice for you, right? No cars, just your feet and maybe a water taxi if you’re feeling flush. Tucked away on Castello 5845, this place feels like a hidden gem in one of the city’s more lived-in neighborhoods – not the postcard frenzy of San Marco, but close enough that you can wander over to the Basilica in about 10 minutes without dodging a million selfie sticks. I mean, Castello’s got that authentic vibe, with locals hanging laundry over the canals and kids playing in the campi; it’s quieter, especially in the evenings when the day-trippers clear out. Check-in was a breeze – the owner, this warm Italian lady who speaks perfect English (with a dash of Venetian accent), greeted me like an old friend, handed over the keys, and even pointed out the best spot for a quick espresso nearby on Via Garibaldi. Oh, and fair warning: the building’s old-school, so expect some creaky stairs – no elevator, which might be a drag if you’re not up for it, but it adds to the charm, you know?
What really won me over, though, was how the rooms capture that cozy, unpretentious side of Venice without trying too hard. Mine overlooked a little side canal – nothing grand like the Grand Canal, but peaceful, with the occasional gondola hum drifting up and the smell of fresh bread from the bakery downstairs wafting in at dawn. The decor’s simple, sort of rustic with wooden beams and those classic Venetian glass lamps; it’s clean, comfortable, and yeah, the bed was firm but in a good way, like it hugged you after a day of pounding pavements. Breakfast is included – think fresh croissants, yogurt, and strong coffee served in a small communal area that feels more like a neighbor’s kitchen than a hotel buffet. I appreciated the little touches, like the free Wi-Fi that actually works (a rarity in some older spots here) and the air conditioning that kicks in during those sticky summer months – Venice can get humid, folks. That said, the bathroom was on the snug side, with a shower that takes a second to heat up, but nothing that ruined the stay. And noise-wise? It’s blissfully quiet at night, away from the bar crowds in Campo Santa Margherita or the Rialto bustle, though you might hear church bells from Santa Maria Formosa chiming in the morning – a gentle wake-up, if you ask me.
All in all, if you’re after a real taste of Venice without the tourist trap prices – this is a 3-star spot with an 8 rating for a reason – I’d say book it, especially off-season in fall when the fog rolls in and the city’s magic really shines. It’s perfect for couples or solo travelers who want to explore on foot, maybe grab cicchetti at a bacaro down the street or hop a boat to the Biennale gardens nearby. Well, I left feeling like I’d actually lived there a bit, not just passed through – and isn’t that what travel’s all about?

The location couldnt be beat. It was far enough from Rialto to lose the crowds but close enough for easy access to all neighborhoods. The unit, itself, was beautiful–with canal and bridge views aplenty. The keys and security features were good and allowed easy access at all hours. The surrounding alleys and piazzas afforded many dining options. 10 outta 10.
What could be improved: The only negative is the name. Dont call it B&B if theres no breakfast, eh?Konstantina from Greece – 9 January 2025 (9/10)
Excellent location near many attractions! The room had a view of the canal which was perfect as you felt the essence of Venice from your window. They also cleaned it every day 10/10
What could be improved: The lights were a little low for the room at night but that’s minor.Kaoru from Japan – 25 October 2024 (9/10)
They kindly kept our luggage after the check-out

Location was great. Easy to get to and close to a lot of amazing things to see
What could be improved: Pillows were not great. Only 2 small soaps and 2 shampoos left for us. No breakfast optionsQuigley from United Kingdom – 4 October 2024 (8/10)
Easy check in. Very good location for different sights and a Coop. Great views to a canal – we were room 205.
What could be improved: No bin in the room, however communal bins downstairs but no information on recycling.Little from New Zealand – 28 September 2024 (9/10)
The location was ideal, with a great view of the canal. The decor was traditional, and the Toiletries were nice. Lots of local eateries, and even a close by square for restaurants.
What could be improved: Our welcome was a little cold, although we were 20mins early. There was a kettle, however it was shared with the rest of the B&B, and fortunately, we had our own tea and milk. Otherwise, this was not available.Carole from United Kingdom – 17 September 2024 (8/10)
Perfect location.
Responsive host. Lovely room.
There are stairs up to the room we had but this was not an issue for us.
Would definitely recommend.
What could be improved: Kitchen facilities limited.Marine from France – 14 August 2024 (9/10)
The B&B was at 8 minutes walk from Piazza San Marco. The room was clean and comfortable.
What could be improved: Forgot this place didn’t include breakfast, other than that the rest was great!Klaudia from Ireland – 9 August 2024 (9/10)
Nice and quiet place, located close to water bus to get around as well as all the squares, 15 mins away from most places. Clean with air conditioning.
What could be improved: Had 3 flights of steel stairs, not mentioned in the ad. Wouldn’t recommend to anyone with breathing issues.Aurora from Ireland – 1 August 2024 (9/10)
Very nice place and great location. The room was great, but the shower doesn't work well.
