Hotel Description
I remember stumbling upon BlueYellow Home in Cannaregio after a sweaty vaporetto ride from the train station – you know, the Santa Lucia one, where everyone’s hauling luggage over those little bridges. It’s tucked away on a quiet side street off Fondamenta Savorgnan, right in the heart of Cannaregio, which is honestly one of Venice’s more lived-in neighborhoods, away from the San Marco crowds. I mean, it’s not flashy like those Grand Canal palaces, but that’s what I loved about it – feels like you’re crashing at a friend’s place rather than some sterile hotel chain. Check-in was a breeze; the owner, this chatty local guy named Marco (or was it Matteo? Anyway, super helpful), handed over the keys with a quick rundown of the area, including where to grab the best cicchetti at that tiny bar on Rio Terà San Leonardo, just a five-minute stroll away. No elevator, though – well, it’s Venice, so expect to lug your bags up a flight or two of those worn marble stairs, but hey, it builds character.
The room itself? Cozy in that authentic Venetian way, with exposed beams and these quirky blue-and-yellow accents that match the name – sort of whimsical without trying too hard. Air conditioning was a godsend during my July stay; Venice gets muggy, you know, with that faint canal smell wafting in if you crack a window, but the AC kept things crisp and quiet. WiFi worked like a charm for streaming and planning day trips – no buffering issues, which is rare in these old buildings. I had a view over a narrow rio, and mornings started with the soft lapping of water against the walls and distant church bells from Santa Maria dei Miracoli, maybe a 10-minute walk east. It’s not dead silent at night – there’s the occasional boat horn or late-night chatter from folks wandering back from dinner – but nothing like the Piazza San Marco racket. Breakfast wasn’t included (a minor bummer, honestly, but there’s a great pasticceria nearby on Strada Nova for fresh cornetti), and the bathroom was compact, with that classic Italian shower setup where you sort of have to dance around to avoid flooding the floor. Still, for a 4-star spot with a 7.7 rating, it punches above its weight – clean, comfortable, and way more affordable than the tourist traps.
What really sold me on BlueYellow Home was how it lets you dip into real Venice life. You’re steps from the Jewish Ghetto, with its hidden synagogues and kosher spots – I grabbed falafel there one afternoon and it was a nice break from all the pasta. In peak summer, the area buzzes but never overwhelms, and come evening, it quiets down faster than the busier districts. If you’re traveling solo or as a couple looking to explore off the beaten path – think wandering to the Madonna dell’Orto church or hopping a ferry to Murano – this place is ideal. It’s not perfect; the decor could use a refresh here and there, but that’s Venice for you – charmingly imperfect. I’d go back in a heartbeat, especially in shoulder season like April when the crowds thin out and you can actually hear your own thoughts.

The overall location and the specific location at the little plaza with water next to it was perfect.
Everything was clean and nice. I liked the fact there was detergent to clean dishes and kitchen paper.
What could be improved: The Sofabed in the living room was not super comfortable but the main Bed was perfect.Simon from United States – 11 September 2023 (9/10)
The property was very spacious and in a great quiet area.
What could be improved: The door was a little hard to figure out how to open.Karen from United Kingdom – 14 October 2024 (8/10)
great location. great for a few nights stay.
What could be improved: Bit dark and seating etc a bit uncomfortable, didn't feel it was suitable if you wanted to have a meal in one night, but plenty of restaurants and bars nearby.Fritha from South Africa – 14 September 2024 (8/10)
It is very private, spacious for Venice and ground floor. Easy access with everything you need in the kitchen and a big lounge.
What could be improved: The mattress was comfortable, but not the pillows and linen.Gill from United Kingdom – 13 October 2023 (7/10)

Had been to Venice twice before. Loved the location. What was unique about this stay was we were in an area where the people of Venice live and work. It was located right beside one of the side canals. Also the kitchen was well supplied with cooking supplies. From previous people staying there, good non-perishable items were there like sugar, etc.. Also owner was good at getting back to us pretty promptly.
What could be improved: What could have been better? It was very hard for us to locate the property. We had asked the owner beforehand to help us but no help was given. The address was so vague and finding street names is also not easy. Would recommend researching how the street system works there. We were coming from the main train station Santa Lucia. Even asked several people along the way. No luck. We spent about 1-1/2 hours trying to find it even though google said it was a 14 minute walk. We had 2 large suitcases and going over the numerous bridges with steps was hard. We finally asked at an outside cafe called Ital India. They helped us, including phoning the owner of this property for us. It turned out the Blue Yellow House is in a side street right beside this place. P.S. The food at the Ital-India is very good and the staff are wonderful.Haraprasad from India – 22 July 2024 (8/10)
Spacious house, good kitchen and lots of restaurants near to the property.
What could be improved: Little far from railway station. It is difficult to get in there when you have luggage and children as there is no taxi service available.Ross from Australia – 25 September 2024 (9/10)
Great house, very comfortable, quiet location with your own piazza out front. Occasional gondola or boat comes past. Best location in Venice.
What could be improved: Nothing.Simon from United States – 22 May 2024 (9/10)
Superb location, close to vaporeto station, quiet neighborhood, no problems with AC or hot water,

We had a wonderful vacation in Venice. The apartment is located in the most beautiful and the oldest neighborhood in Venice. With beautiful restaurants, cafeterias nearby. The biggest sights are a 20-minute walk away from the apartment. Literally everything is within reach and everything is close. At night it is peaceful and quiet to sleep. The apartment is pleasant, spacious, comfortable and equipped with everything you need to have a carefree stay. I definitely recommend it!
