Cà dell’Orto Overview
First Impressions
Walking through the narrow streets of Cannaregio to reach Cà dell’Orto, you immediately sense you’ve found something special. This three-star boutique hotel sits tucked away in one of Venice’s most authentic neighborhoods — the kind of spot where locals still hang their laundry between buildings and you can actually hear conversations echoing off ancient walls instead of just tourist chatter. The entrance feels refreshingly understated, which honestly makes the warm welcome inside even more genuine.
Location & Neighborhood
Here’s what I love about staying in Cannaregio — you’re close enough to everything that matters but far enough from the madness around San Marco to actually breathe. Cà dell’Orto sits in what’s consistently rated as Venice’s top area, and I mean, couples especially seem to get it (they’ve given the location a 9.3 rating). You can walk to the Rialto Bridge in about ten minutes, but you’re also surrounded by genuine Venetian life. There’s a fantastic bacaro just around the corner where gondoliers grab their morning coffee, and the nearby Fondamenta della Misericordia comes alive in the evenings with locals enjoying aperitivo.
The Rooms
The accommodations strike that perfect balance between Venetian character and modern comfort. You’ll find original beamed ceilings and terrazzo floors — details that remind you you’re sleeping in a centuries-old palazzo — but the bathrooms are updated and the Wi-Fi actually works (which, let’s be honest, isn’t always a given in Venice’s historic buildings). The rooms aren’t huge, but they’re thoughtfully designed with clever storage solutions that make the most of every square meter. Some overlook the quiet canal, others face the charming courtyard, and either way you’re getting that authentic Venice experience without the noise.
Daily Rhythms
Mornings here feel particularly special because you’re experiencing Venice as it wakes up, not as the day-trippers arrive. The staff knows the neighborhood inside and out — they’ll point you toward the best pastry shop for cornetti or suggest which vaporetto stop to use depending on where you’re headed. What struck me most was how the hotel manages to feel both intimate and professional; it’s small enough that the front desk remembers your name, but organized enough that everything runs smoothly.
Why Guests Love It
With a 9.3 overall rating, Cà dell’Orto clearly gets something right, and I think it’s the combination of location and authenticity. You’re staying in real Venice — not the theme park version — but you’re not sacrificing comfort or convenience. The excellent location score of 9.4 speaks for itself, but what the numbers don’t capture is how this place lets you live like a temporary Venetian rather than just visit like a tourist. It’s the kind of hotel where you’ll find yourself taking the long way home just to soak up more of the neighborhood’s evening rhythm.

Given how many people say that it's almost impossible to find appropriate apartments in Venice this option is really outstanding! Every Euro paid worked out for our comfort and special feeling in this unique city.
The owners are generous, all communications was held in clear and noble manner.
You have all you want in a few steps: channels, restaurants, supermarket, boat station from where you can get to the airport, Lido, San Marco, Murano, Burano, Torcello.
Wish to be back here!Colleen from Canada – 4 October 2024 (10/10)
This place has a great location to explore all Venice has to offer.
Martina was an amazing host, very accommodating. She had several recommendations that didn't disappoint.
Great for a family or two couples.Georgios from Germany – 12 July 2024 (10/10)
Very nice, clean and well equiped apartment. We stayed there for 10 nights. The owner did everything he could in order to solve, as soon as it was possible, a problem we had the first days of our stay and we appreciated that.

The apartment was very well equipped. The hosts had thought of everything we'd need and more.
Acquiring the keys was a very easy, smooth experience.
The apartment was in a peaceful location minutes from the ferry stop.
The beds were very comfortable and there were plenty of fresh towels available.
The hosts had left a thoughtful welcome of a bottle of wine and biscuits.
What could be improved: The location was a bit of a walk to get to the Rialto bridge and St Mark's square but this was balanced by its quiet location.Drew from United States – 14 April 2024 (8/10)
It was clean, has two bathrooms, fully stocked with cookware and dishes, and in a great, quiet, more “local” neighborhood adjacent to all the action.
What could be improved: The bed linens felt cheap and rough, and the kitchen backsplash was coming apart from the wall. Those are easy, minor fixes though.Adrienne from Ireland – 30 March 2024 (10/10)
Lovely modern townhouse with all mod cons. Lovely and warm and welcoming. Very comfy beds and plenty of towels etc. so lovely to retreat to after a long day sight seeing!
What could be improved: Nothing… everything was great!Robert from United Kingdom – 25 October 2023 (8/10)

What could be improved: Fact that no sunlight behind.Shuttleworth from United Kingdom – 12 August 2023 (9/10)
The apartment was fantastic very clean and spacious. We had everything we could possibly need. We felt very safe there too. The location was perfect, set on a quiet canal yet five minutes walk from restaurants, shops etc. Three minutes away from a water bus and water airport bus stop too.
We were very well looked after by the host during our stay and even before we arrived we were given advice on how to get to the apartment from the airport as well as restaurant and shopping recommendations. During the stay they were available for help and advice and even when we had a problem getting back to the airport they were at the end of the phone.
We would highly recommend staying here.
What could be improved: We had a small problem with the key but this was quickly resolved. That's the only reason we are giving a 9 and not a 10.Barbel from United Kingdom – 3 April 2023 (10/10)
Excellent location, we knew the area from many visits before and love staying there. It was nice to have access to a little private terrace. The flat has a nice loft feeling yet we didn't have to climb up many stairs which was appreciated having a large suitcase. The equipment, size and layout was perfect for a small family. The Fondamente outside is quiet and very beautiful. Yet you only have to walk a few minutes to get to some wonderful bars, bakery, etc. Tintoretto paintings next door, how amazing is that! Close to the waterbus station and convenient to get to and from the airport. Thank you so much for the welcome bottle, very appreciated after a long trip. Welcome by host was perfect and very responsive.
What could be improved: There is absolutely nothing that we didn't like!
Very MINOR points: Lighting in the bedroom (either Instructions/stickers on the switches, or a main light in each room that one can turn on with a switch would make it easy). A little more soap. The step by the door in the courtyard is easily overlooked.
