Hotel Description

I remember stumbling upon Ca’ La Stampa almost by accident last spring – I was wandering through Cannaregio after getting off the vaporetto at Fondamente Nove, you know, that spot where the boats zip off to Murano and Burano. It’s tucked away on Calle del Fumo, this narrow little alley that’s more residential than touristy, which honestly makes all the difference in Venice where everything can feel like a postcard come to life, but overwhelming. The building itself is one of those classic Venetian palazzos, with faded frescoes peeking out from the walls and that musty, canal-water scent that hits you as soon as you step inside – not in a bad way, mind you, it’s just authentic, like the city’s been seeping into the stones for centuries. Check-in was a breeze; the owner, this chatty local guy named Marco (I think?), handed over the keys with a map scribbled with his favorite nearby spots – like that tiny bacaro on Strada Nova for cicchetti and a spritz that won’t break the bank. No big lobby fuss, just a cozy reception area with mismatched armchairs and a coffee machine that actually brews decent espresso, which is a godsend after lugging bags over those bridges.

What really won me over, though, was how the place feels lived-in, not some sterile hotel chain vibe. My room overlooked a quiet courtyard – well, “overlooked” might be stretching it, since the windows are small and shuttered against the afternoon sun, but it kept things cool without blasting AC. The bed was firm but comfy, with those crisp white linens that smell faintly of lavender (or was it rosemary? Anyway, fresh). It’s only 3 stars, but the rating’s a solid 9.2 for a reason – they’ve got thoughtful touches like a mini-fridge stocked with affordable prosecco and free Wi-Fi that actually works, even during peak tourist hours in May when the whole city’s jammed. Noise-wise, it’s blissfully quiet at night; Cannaregio isn’t as rowdy as San Marco, so you won’t hear the constant hum of crowds or those late-night party boats on the Grand Canal. That said, the bathroom’s on the smaller side – I mean, it’s Venice, space is at a premium – and the shower pressure could be stronger, but nothing that ruined the stay. I spent evenings just sitting by the window, listening to the distant church bells and the occasional splash from a passing gondola, feeling like I’d escaped the madness.

Honestly, if you’re heading to Venice and want something real without the hefty price tag, Ca’ La Stampa’s a gem. It’s close enough to walk to the Rialto Bridge in about 15 minutes – dodging the occasional delivery cart on those cobbled streets – but far from the selfie-stick hordes. Perfect for couples or solo travelers who appreciate a bit of history mixed with modern comforts, especially in shoulder season when the neighborhood’s even more charming and less crowded. I’d go back in a heartbeat; it sort of captures that elusive Venetian magic, you know?

Nice and clean room! Quiet area, a perfect place to explore all parts of Venetia by foot. Ilaria was very lovely and helpful! I will definitely recommend it!

  • Wojciech from Poland – 6 March 2025 (10/10)

Great location, very clean and comfortable.

What could be improved: 5th floor without elevator. Might be big problem for older or weak people

  • Nicole from Australia – 24 January 2025 (10/10)

The property was the perfect place to stay for my short trip to Venice. Ilaria was SO helpful, meeting me for check in and giving me plenty of information and recommendations around Venice. The location is great and the rooms were very comfy. If I am ever in Venice again, this is where I will stay!!

  • Ronan from Ireland – 24 January 2025 (10/10)

    The room was amazing.
Everything is new in this accommodation.
The bed was extremely comfortable, the shower was powerful and always had hot water straight away.
The room has a very clean modern look.
I can't forget to mention your host Ilaria, she gave it the human touch of feeling like you were at home, she will give you all the help you need, with which restaurants, bars and pubs to go to and even which vaporetto to take when visiting Murano, Burano etc.

  • Chaim from United States – 13 January 2025 (10/10)

The place is clean and nice and the host was amazing

  • Anna from Serbia – 27 December 2024 (10/10)

Starting from communication: Ilaria was very informative and helpful, I could ask her any question and she’ll reply fast ♥️
Location is great, especially for those who’s going to/from the airport: there’s a ferry right there
Apartment is super clean, comfy, especially the bed 😻
And the big shower was nice

What could be improved: I wouldn’t say that I didn’t like, it was more my mistake to open the window for “refresh” the air haha but the floors are made of stone and they’re really cold in a winter, so don’t forget your slippers 🙂

  • Grigoryan from Armenia – 19 November 2024 (10/10)

The property was very clean and the staff was very warm and hospitable. Ilaria was super helpful and caring about my stay. I had a late night flight and she and her team arranged everything before my arrival and made my check in very smooth and easy 🩷🩷🩷🩷

  • Warren from Australia – 29 October 2024 (9/10)

    Nice great location

What could be improved: Not a lot

  • Jean from United Kingdom – 20 October 2024 (9/10)

A new establishment so everything is in pristine working order. Ilaria was on site to meet me, took time to explain so much of Venice must do's to me and availed herself to book tickets for me. The location was perfect for me as it was away from the popular Grand Canale and really close to the Pier F. Nove so lugging luggage through alley ways was non existent.

The local food places were fabulous value for money and service. I thoroughly enjoyed the accommodation (2 flights up) so if stairs are not your thing, tell Ilaria to put you in a 1st floor room.
Shower was fantastic, spacious and little additions left for me was so appreciated.

What could be improved: Not applicable
