Ca’ Zaccaria Overview

First Impressions

Walking into Ca’ Zaccaria feels like discovering a well-kept secret tucked away in the maze of Venetian streets. This three-star boutique hotel sits right on Campo Santi Filippo e Giacomo in the Castello district, and honestly, the location alone makes it worth considering. You know that feeling when you find a place that’s perfectly positioned but doesn’t scream “tourist trap”? That’s exactly what you get here — it’s intimate without being cramped, and the staff actually remembers your name after the first day.

The Heart of Venice

I mean, when they say this place has an excellent location score of 9.5, they’re not kidding around. You’re literally a two-minute walk from St. Mark’s Square, but here’s the thing — you’re far enough away that you won’t be dealing with the constant crowds right outside your door. The campo itself is this lovely little square where locals actually hang out, and there’s something really authentic about watching Venetians go about their daily routines while you sip your morning coffee. The Doge’s Palace and the Bridge of Sighs are practically next door, but you’ll also discover those hidden bacari (wine bars) that only locals seem to know about.

Your Room Experience

The rooms at Ca’ Zaccaria have that classic Venetian charm without feeling like you’re sleeping in a museum. Each room is different — some have canal views, others overlook the campo — but they all have this warm, lived-in feeling that makes you want to actually spend time there. The beds are surprisingly comfortable (not always a given in historic Italian hotels), and the bathrooms are modern enough that you won’t be wrestling with ancient plumbing. What I really appreciated was the attention to detail — proper reading lights, enough outlets for your devices, and windows that actually open so you can hear the city waking up.

Romantic Venice

There’s a reason couples rate this place so highly for romantic getaways, and it goes beyond just the obvious Venice appeal. The hotel has this intimate scale that makes it feel like your own private hideaway — there are only a handful of rooms, so you’re not competing with tour groups for attention. In the evenings, when the day-trippers have headed back to the mainland, the campo becomes incredibly peaceful. You can actually hear the water lapping against the nearby fondamenta, and the whole area takes on this golden glow that makes even the most cynical traveler understand why people fall in love with this city.

Why Guests Love It

What really sets Ca’ Zaccaria apart is how it manages to feel both central and secluded at the same time. You’re close enough to everything that matters, but you’re staying in a neighborhood where real Venetians live and work. The staff knows the area inside and out — they’ll point you toward the best cicchetti spots and tell you which bridges to take for the most scenic routes. It’s the kind of place where you feel like you’re experiencing Venice rather than just visiting it, and honestly, that’s worth more than any fancy amenity could ever be.

    Excellent location

  • Avani from United States – 2 June 2024 (9/10)

Location is incredible.. walking distance to everything. The apt was clean and well maintained.

What could be improved: There seems to have been a garbage pick up delay downstairs so the staircase was really smelly for a couple of days.

  • Alexandra from Hungary – 12 March 2024 (9/10)

  • Badbull_oz from Australia – 27 December 2023 (8/10)

The apartment was nice and big with lots of space and 2 bathrooms, very bright and airy and we used the kitchen to make dinner 2 nights of our 3 day stay and there were pots and pans, cutlery and plates etc. Great to have a washing machine also. Very close to San Marco Ca' Zaccaria ferry(traghetto) station, less than 5 mins walk. Close to all the main attractions such as St Marc's Basilica and Rialto Bridge.
Overall I was quite happy with the apartment.

What could be improved: Wasn't a clothes horse to hang clothes after washing so had to go to a self service laundry to dry clothes. The kitchen was lacking a pasta strainer. And an unusual amount of mosquitoes for the middle of winter.

  • Teri from United States – 2 November 2023 (9/10)

The location was excellent!! Great sound proofing, as when the doors & windows were closed you didn’t hear any street noise! The AC was cold and felt great after walking up the flights of stairs! Water pressure was good, beds and pillows were comfortable. When the weather was cooler, we were able to open the door to the minuscule balcony, which had a bug screen, and let in some fresh air.

What could be improved: The toilets were square shaped & were uncomfortable to sit on.

  • Maria from Greece – 17 October 2023 (9/10)

The location is central, the apartment is big enough for a family of 5 and was spotless, lovely cafes just opposite, great communication with hosts, could not ask ask for something more.

  • Shane from United Kingdom – 11 July 2023 (9/10)

Spacious and excellent air conditioning. Lovely area.

What could be improved: 4 flights of steep stairs

  • Joseph from Australia – 27 June 2023 (9/10)

    Perfect location, newly renovated apartment.

What could be improved: Nothing really, just no lift for your luggage.
