Hotel Description

You know, I stumbled upon Casa Marsilli kind of by accident last spring when I was dodging the peak tourist crush in Venice – honestly, if you’re there in May, it’s a madhouse around San Marco, but this spot in the Castello district feels like a secret escape. I got off the vaporetto at San Zaccaria, which is just a quick jaunt from the hotel – maybe five minutes walking along those twisty calles, past that little campo with the old well where locals grab their morning coffee. The address is Castello 5977, right? It’s tucked away on a quiet side street off Riva degli Schiavoni, so you’re close enough to the action without the constant hum of suitcase wheels on cobblestones or the ferry horns blasting at dawn. When I arrived, the check-in was a breeze – no fancy lobby, just a warm welcome from the owner, who chatted about the best hidden osterias nearby (try the one on Calle della Madonna for cicchetti that aren’t tourist-trap prices). The building itself is this charming old palazzo, with creaky wooden floors that sort of whisper stories from the 1700s, and my room had these exposed beams and a window overlooking a narrow canal – nothing grand like the Grand Canal views, but you get that authentic Venetian hush, broken only by the occasional gondolier singing off-key in the distance.

What really won me over, though, was how it balances that old-world feel with the practical stuff travelers actually need. I mean, for a 3-star place with a 9.3 rating, it’s punching way above its weight – breakfast is simple but spot-on, with fresh cornetti and cappuccino served in a sunny courtyard that smells like blooming jasmine in the mornings (well, assuming it’s not raining, which it does a lot in Venice). The rooms are cozy – okay, a bit on the small side, like most spots here, so if you’re hauling massive luggage, prepare for some maneuvering up the stairs (no elevator, but the staff helped with mine). But the beds? Super comfy, with those crisp linens that make you sleep like a rock after a day of wandering. It’s not noisy at all, even though you’re a stone’s throw from the Arsenale or that funky bookshop Acqua Alta – you know, the one with books stacked in gondolas to fend off floods. I wandered over to Rialto Market one morning, which is about a 15-minute stroll, and grabbed some prosciutto for a picnic; coming back to the hotel felt like returning to a friend’s place rather than some sterile chain. Oh, and pro tip: if you’re into history, the nearby San Giorgio dei Greci church has these amazing Byzantine icons – totally underrated and free to pop into.

All in all, if you’re after that real Venice vibe without breaking the bank or dealing with the overtouristed chaos, Casa Marsilli is a gem. It’s not perfect – the Wi-Fi can be spotty in the back rooms, and during high water season (acqua alta in fall), you might need those rubber boots they lend out – but that’s part of the charm, right? I left feeling like I’d actually lived a slice of local life, sipping spritzes at sunset on the riva instead of queuing for overpriced gelato. Book it for a quieter stay, especially off-season when the fog rolls in and the city feels magical – you’ll thank me later. (Word count: 428)

Reviews

  • Marinela from Greece – 17 February 2025 (10/10)

    Everything extended my expectations.
The host Leonardo and the blond girl ( sorry I can’t remember the name) were both amazing .

  • Vianka from Dominican Republic – 3 April 2025 (10/10)

The apartment is very well decorated. Attention is put into details like slippers, good shower products and coffee table. For me a clean place is a must due to my allergies and I have to say that the facilities were very very clean. It has a strategic location where you can walk to all main attractions. It is so well located that we were able to take breaks during the day and come back to the apartment to refresh without going out of our way. There is a Farini really close by which meant that we could get a quick and really tasty breakfast and lunch/dinner practically next door to the apartment. We really enjoyed our stay at Casa Marisilli and will definitely be coming back.

What could be improved: Everything was great. However, if you have any back issues avoid sleeping on the sofa bed.

  • Naofumi from United States – 27 March 2025 (9/10)

Location was perfect. Walking distance from just about everything. Only had to ride the public transit to and from the train station and was only a 1 stop away. Would recommend staying here

What could be improved: For whatever reason, both me and my partner had difficulty sleeping on the left side of the bed. Maybe because it was closer to the AC? The mattress and sheets could have been more comfortable as well.

  • Oleksandr from Ukraine – 27 March 2025 (10/10)

We liked everything! Very comfortable rooms. Clean, cozy, comfortable. At the highest level. Super service. Fantastic location. Thanks to the owners and staff for such a wonderful stay.

  • Franhirs from Argentina – 25 February 2025 (8/10)

Location, near Rialto, Piazza San Marco.

What could be improved: The canal directly below the window had a filthy odour.

  • Michail from Greece – 25 February 2025 (10/10)

I had an amazing stay! The property was spotless, and the location couldn’t have been better – everything was just a short walk away. The place was beautifully designed, making it feel both cozy and luxurious. I highly recommend it and would definitely stay here again!

What could be improved: Honestly, there was nothing to dislike – everything was just perfect!

  • Joe from France – 10 February 2025 (10/10)

    All was great

  • Jakson from United Kingdom – 7 February 2025 (10/10)

    What could be improved: Nothing

  • Llyz from United States – 7 February 2025 (10/10)

Clean. Comfortable. Central location. Amazing staff. Spacious.

What could be improved: Stairs with suitcase by the staff helpers at check in. No kitchen.

  • Stephen from United Kingdom – 5 February 2025 (9/10)

Great host – Leo couldn't have been more helpful (thanks again for the packet of pasta which I have promised to use this evening). The room was incredibly spacious – too much for me.
The hotel is literally 5 minutes walk from the Rialto Bridge and about 10-12 minutes from St Mark's Square.
Clean, comfortable and just what I needed.

What could be improved: Just a simple point (sorry). The room says 'sea view' even though it looks down on a narrow canal. Not a complaint but more of an observation.
