Hotel Description

You know, I stumbled upon Casanova Fourrooms almost by accident last spring when I was dodging the Easter crowds in Venice – that time of year when the city’s packed with day-trippers, but the evenings quiet down into this magical hush. It’s tucked away in Santa Croce, right at 467/c, just a short wander from the train station at Santa Lucia. Honestly, after hauling my suitcase over those bumpy bridges from Piazzale Roma, finding this place felt like a godsend. It’s not one of those flashy hotels – more like a cozy guesthouse with just four rooms, named after the infamous Casanova himself (which, I mean, adds a cheeky vibe, doesn’t it?). The building’s this old Venetian palazzo, all weathered stone and creaky wooden shutters that rattle gently when the wind picks up off the canal. Check-in was a breeze; the owner, this friendly local guy named Marco, greeted me with a strong espresso and a map scribbled with his favorite hidden spots – like that tiny bacaro around the corner on Calle della Regina where you can snag cicchetti for pennies.

What really won me over, though, was how it felt like staying in a friend’s apartment rather than some sterile hotel chain. My room overlooked a narrow rio – yeah, one of those sleepy canals where you hear the occasional splash of an oar or the distant hum of a vaporetto chugging by in the morning. The decor’s simple but charming: exposed beams, a comfy bed with those crisp white linens that smell faintly of lavender (they must use some local soap), and a little balcony where I sipped my coffee watching the neighbors hang laundry. It’s rated 7.9 for a reason – solid three-star value without the frills. Breakfast is basic continental stuff served in a sunny common area, nothing gourmet, but hey, the fresh cornetti were flaky and warm, and Marco throws in tips on avoiding the tourist traps like the overpriced gondolas near Rialto. A minor gripe? The Wi-Fi can be spotty in the evenings when everyone’s streaming, and parking’s nonexistent (but who drives in Venice anyway? – leave the car at Tronchetto and take the people mover). Noise-wise, it’s surprisingly peaceful for Santa Croce; you’re far enough from the Grand Canal’s bustle, but close to spots like Campo San Polo for a gelato run.

All in all, if you’re after an authentic slice of Venetian life without breaking the bank, this is it. I walked to the Frari church in under 10 minutes, grabbed groceries at the nearby Coop, and even caught a quiet sunset vaporetto ride to San Marco without the hassle. Well, sort of – Venice is always a bit chaotic, but staying here made it feel manageable, you know? I’d go back in a heartbeat, especially off-season when the fog rolls in and the whole sestiere feels like your own secret.

  • Kattarina7 from Czech Republic – 17 July 2024 (8/10)

The room was quite large with large and modern bathroom. The staff was very friendly and very helpful. Location is great. There is the main bus stop, strain station, restaurants and supermarket nearby. 20 mins by car/taxi to Marco Polo airport (in case of no traffic).

  • S from United Kingdom – 29 March 2025 (9/10)

Stay was really good, accepted early check in.
Only drawback is it’s hard to find for the first time. Map is not 100% accurate.
Apart from finding the location for first time. Everything else was good. Very close to train station/ water bus and bus.

  • Neda from Bulgaria – 9 February 2025 (9/10)

    Big apartment with nice furniture.

What could be improved: Just one small comment – the light in the bedroom could be brighter.

  • Barbara from United Kingdom – 17 November 2024 (9/10)

    It was lovely and clean.

    What could be improved: Nothing.

  • Anna from Australia – 26 October 2024 (8/10)

Great location for staying at Venice (less busy area with great restaurants) and easy to reach cruise terminal. Had an elevator for bags.

  • Christine from United Kingdom – 14 October 2024 (9/10)

    Very close to bus station
Spacious room , comfortable and clean with everything I needed

What could be improved: Squeezing through parked cars to reach the entrance

  • Robert from Italy – 22 September 2024 (8/10)

Close to transport and central Venice

  • Andrea from United Kingdom – 19 August 2024 (9/10)

The rooms were ready when we went to leave the bags, which was appreciated as it was so hot. We had requested adjacent rooms, which we got – a twin and a deluxe double. Both clean, comfortable, with good wifi and air con. The beds were comfortable, and the lady on reception who checked us in was very helpful. There are restaurants around the corner which we used, and its very handy for the bus station, which took us to the airport in the morning. If you are coming from the train station, there is a large bridge to cross – we paid a porter to take our cases over as we were quite hot an bothered by then, there are loads of porters around with trolleys for the purpose.

What could be improved: Everything was fine.

  • Linda from Australia – 18 August 2024 (8/10)

We were very close to the train station and bus station, which was my main reason for choosing Casanova. We are travelling with large cases and this was the most convenient point to walk to S Lucia station. The room was very clean and very comfortable. A shared coffee station on our floor if approx 5 rooms. Cold water in fridge 2 Euro each. Really happy to be able to check in when we arrived. All along they were very accommodating with requests to store luggage b4 n after check in/out. Fast and efficient communication all along too. Good value for money being that we stayed close to everything in Venice. St Marks approx 40min walk but water taxi & water buses 2min walk from hotel. 3 small bars / coffee with out door seating near hotel which was good as there’s not so much open late close to hotel … nice to relax b4 heading back to hotel after a long and late night 🙂

What could be improved: Not that’s was bad but a little strange that the entry was through a garage / parking area.

  • Jessica from United States – 26 July 2024 (9/10)

The elevator, working AC, and working WIFI were huge bonuses in Venice. Not all hotels that say they have these items actually deliver, I've found. Staff was friendly and accomodating with letting me know how to do a checkout at 3am to catch my flight.

What could be improved: I didn't get to try to the breakfast, so I can't say much about that, but unless they had a whole room for it there wasn't much space on the little coffee table in the hallway. I did notice there was a bit of scale buildup in the water boiler in the hall, but it didn't stop me from rinsing it out and using it. One side of the bed was very hard, but the other was a bit softer and I slept on that side.
