Casin dei Spiriti Overview

First Impressions

Walking up to Casin dei Spiriti along the fondamenta del Abbazia, you immediately sense you’ve found something special in Cannaregio. This three-star boutique hotel sits quietly in one of Venice‘s most authentic neighborhoods, away from the tourist chaos but still perfectly positioned for exploring. The building itself has that weathered Venetian charm — you know, the kind where every stone seems to hold centuries of stories. The intimate atmosphere welcomes you from the moment you arrive.

Location & Neighborhood

Honestly, the location here is phenomenal, and I’m not just saying that because couples rate it 9.6 out of 10. Cannaregio gives you real Venice — the kind where locals still hang laundry between buildings and you’ll hear more Italian than English on the streets. You’re actually walking distance from the train station (super handy when you’re dragging luggage), but more importantly, you’re positioned perfectly between the Jewish Quarter and the northern lagoon. The Fondamenta delle Zattere runs right nearby, which means those gorgeous sunset walks along the water that everyone dreams about in Venice. This neighborhood truly captures the essence of authentic Venetian life.

The Room Experience

The rooms at Casin dei Spiriti strike that perfect balance between Venetian character and modern comfort. Each room feels thoughtfully designed rather than cookie-cutter — you’ll find original details like exposed beams or traditional terrazzo floors mixed with updated bathrooms and reliable Wi-Fi. What I really appreciate is how they’ve managed to keep things authentic without sacrificing the practical stuff travelers actually need. The windows open onto either canal views or quiet courtyards, and honestly, even the courtyard views have their charm in this part of the city. Every detail reflects careful consideration for guest comfort.

Exploring from Here

From this spot, you can walk to San Marco in about 20 minutes, but here’s the thing — you probably won’t want to rush there every day. The Cannaregio area has incredible bacari (those tiny wine bars locals love), the fascinating Ghetto area with its tall buildings and rich history, and the morning fish market at the Rialto is just a pleasant stroll away. Plus, you’re close enough to the vaporetto stops that getting around the lagoon to Murano or Burano becomes really straightforward. The neighborhood offers endless opportunities for discovery.

Why Guests Love It

What keeps people coming back to Casin dei Spiriti is how it manages to feel both central and peaceful — no small feat in Venice. The 8.9 guest rating reflects what you experience: solid comfort, genuine Venetian atmosphere, and that rare sense of staying somewhere locals might actually choose themselves. You’re not paying premium prices, but you’re getting something arguably more valuable — an authentic slice of Venice that feels like a discovery rather than just another hotel stay. It’s the kind of place where you’ll find yourself planning your next Venice trip before you’ve even checked out. This hotel truly captures what makes Venice special.

Savvy travelers reserve a hotel in Venice before acqua alta alerts to snag suites with private fondaco docks.

Reviews of Casin dei Spiriti

  • Sophie from France – 26 February 2025 (9/10)

Its location, its neighborhood and the contact with Simon

  • Lauren from United Kingdom – 24 February 2025 (9/10)

This property is absolutely stunning. From the entrance, gardens all the way to the bedrooms and bathrooms. It’s light and airy and has a great vibe. We travelled as a family with 3 children and there was plenty of space – top rated by them too. The host is great and gives a lot of detail about how to find the property, how to get in etc.

What could be improved: I know that when you visit Venice you don’t really need a tv. It would have however been nice for the kids to watch after a long day of walking. It wasn’t a massive deal because they brought their own tablets.

I’m a very light sleeper and one night the neighbours were quite noisy. It’s not the hosts fault – a pair of earplugs did the trick. So maybe bear this in mind if you are also a light sleeper.

  • Vera from South Africa – 29 January 2025 (9/10)

    Superb
Super friendly, Simon is very welcoming
    Very clean and spacious
    Safe calm area
    Delicious local restaurants
Easy to arrive and leave to Marco Polo Airport
    Easy to get to town
Easy to come and go with vaporetos

What could be improved: Pity not to be able to cook fish, i would add a strong fine if kitchen is left dirty and smelly

We found some broken cups and plates in the appartment i have put them aside here is photo of items the for one of the edges is sharp like a knife T

    1x glass cup chipped
    1x white bowl
    1x cup saucer

The fork I put aside is very sharp cut my dad mouth

    No washing machine on appartment

  • Alberto from Germany – 2 January 2025 (9/10)

Bell' appartamento, praticamente nuovo, ottima posizione, estremamente comodo e silenzioso

    What could be improved: N/A

  • Rizal from Malaysia – 29 October 2024 (9/10)

I have been to Venice numerous times, this is the most spacious among all properties in Venice. Suitable for family & group.

  • Morrow from United States – 25 September 2024 (9/10)

Very quiet and private but a quick walk to everything. Simon the manager was amazing and was so helpful. He went above and beyond to make our stay comfortable.
Property is lovely with a beautiful patio.

  • Mariana from Poland – 15 August 2024 (9/10)

The place is totally wonderful. There was so much space for our family. The place is almost in the center of Venice. So we could walk everywhere we need to. The personel was so friendly and helpful. Was clean and very atmospheric

What could be improved: There was no iron. Also the lack of the washing machine. We needed to change couple times a day because of the heat and there was no possibility to wash our clothes.

  • Cecilie from Denmark – 27 July 2024 (9/10)

The best location in town. It is close to turist attractions (walking distance) but away from tourist crowds. It is located in the old quarter of Venice with a lot of good restaurants only a 2 minutes walk from the apartment.

  • Marco from Canada – 23 July 2024 (9/10)

    Everything was perfect.
The apartment was beautiful, it had everything you need. The a/c was nice and strong and the beds were very comfortable. WiFi worked great as well.

What could be improved: The only thing we would recommend, is having some bottles of water in the fridge, especially since it was crazy hot.

  • Lucy from United Kingdom – 16 April 2024 (8/10)

It’s in a great location and in a beautiful setting within a gallery. The decor is tasteful and minimalistic, and the kitchens and bathrooms and bedrooms weee perfect. Aircon and automatic blinds for blackout.

What could be improved: There was an exhibition being set up in the gallery so the entrance to the property wasn’t very attractive but we coped.
