I found myself walking most places actually — the Fondamenta delle Zattere is perfect for evening strolls, and you can reach San Marco in about fifteen minutes on foot if you know the shortcuts through the back streets. The staff gave me a hand-drawn map with their favorite routes, which honestly proved more useful than any guidebook.
