First Impressions

Walking through the narrow streets of Castello to find Do Pozzi, you’ll pass locals hanging laundry from ancient windows and small neighborhood cafés that tourists rarely discover. This three-star hotel sits tucked away in what’s honestly one of Venice’s most authentic districts — the kind of place where you hear more Italian than English echoing off the stone walls. The entrance is understated in that particularly Venetian way, where centuries-old buildings don’t need to shout about their charm.

Location & Neighborhood

Here’s what I love about staying in Castello — you’re close enough to San Marco that you can walk there in about ten minutes, but far enough away that you escape the cruise ship crowds every evening. Do Pozzi benefits from being in what locals consider the real Venice, where you’ll find actual grocery stores, neighborhood bars, and that morning routine of Venetians heading to work. The location score of 9.2 makes perfect sense when you realize you can reach the Arsenale, Biennale gardens, and some incredible bacari (wine bars) without fighting through tourist bottlenecks. Couples especially seem to get this — there’s something romantic about having your own little corner of Venice to retreat to.

The Rooms

The rooms at Do Pozzi are what you’d expect from a well-run three-star in Venice — clean, comfortable, and designed with the practical limitations of a historic building in mind. Don’t expect huge spaces (this is Venice, after all), but the rooms feel thoughtfully arranged, and honestly, you’re not here to spend time indoors anyway. What struck me was how quiet it gets at night — being tucked into the residential part of Castello means you’re not dealing with late-night revelers stumbling past your window. The bathrooms are modern enough, and you know what, after a day of walking on stone streets, that’s really all you need.

Getting Around

The nearest vaporetto stop is a short walk away, which connects you to the rest of Venice without much fuss. But here’s the thing about this location — you’ll find yourself walking more than you planned, simply because the route to San Marco takes you through some of Venice’s most photogenic (and least crowded) streets. I mean, you’re staying in an area that feels like a local secret, even though it’s perfectly central. The walk to Rialto takes you along quiet canals where you might be the only tourist in sight, at least in the early morning or evening hours.

Do Pozzi works because it strikes that balance between accessibility and authenticity that’s actually pretty hard to find in Venice. You’re not paying five-star prices, but you’re getting something more valuable — a genuine neighborhood experience in a city where that’s increasingly rare.   Excellent location and lovely staff, the terrace was a gorgeous addition and it was clean. It was very quiet at night and had everything we needed for our week in Venice!
  
  What could be improved: I'd say "sleeps 4" is a bit of a stretch – the main bed was very comfortable but the sofa bed not at all. One side was okay, but the other side was rock solid and my feet hung off the edge (I'm only 5'4) so keep that in mind. The blanket was also very small for two of us sleeping on there..

  The host came to meet us to deliver the keys. Very friendly and respectful. He provided all the info we needed about the apartment, which was situated about 10 min walk from San Marco basilica. The air condition came very handy as it was still 30 degrees at 8pm. Great thing to have to come back to after 2-3 hours of exploring. Also several grocery stores are all around if you want to cook a quick meal. Dinner at a nearby restaurant for a family of 4 is about 150 euro. The best gelato is the Gelato di Natura 🙂
  
  What could be improved: The size of the apartment was smaller than we thought from the photos. There is no washing machine or a welcome basket as you can see on the photos. The backyard is a nice feature however not much useable on hot summer days with mosquitos all around. There is not enough comfortable sitting in the apartment as the sofa was used as a 2nd bed. The floor was dirty underneath. There was a little bit of a bad smell in the apartment. The kitchen is one cook kitchen only, very tiny however equipped well to make a meal. The TV doesn't really work as good which we only used after coming back from outside adventures.

  Great location, friendly host, clean and well maintained apartment, very nice property in Venice. Close enough to San Marco and Vaporetto to be convenient, but far enough away to provide peace and quiet.
  
  What could be improved: The property was (and still is) advertised as having a washing machine, but the host explained that he did not properly install it and it is not working. Also, the bed was not as comfortable as expected.

  It was a wonderful accommodation with great location, clean and cool even without turning on the AC. It has everything you need, AC, small kitchen with utensils, more than enough space for 3 people. Also has a cozy inner patio. By foot you can get to all main attractions and sea ports in 10-15 min max
  
  What could be improved: A toilet sit is cracked, if not careful will get a pinches on your buttox every time. A shower really need a refreshment, the showerhead is leaking and shower cabin letting water to the floor. Be careful with washing machine, it tried to take a walk in the apartment, so better not left it alone.
