The name pretty much says it all — there’s something wonderfully theatrical about the whole place, and honestly, when I found out the BBC actually filmed part of their Venice Grand Tour here in 2024, it all made sense. This three-star property sits right in Santa Croce, which locals will tell you is one of the best-kept secrets for staying in Venice without the tourist madness of San Marco.

Location & Neighborhood

You know what’s brilliant about this spot? It’s got that perfect location score of 8.9 for a reason — you’re close enough to everything that matters but far enough from the crowds that you can actually breathe. The Santa Croce district feels more like real Venice, where you’ll see locals doing their shopping and kids playing in the campos. I mean, you can walk to the Rialto in about fifteen minutes, but when you come back in the evening, you’re not fighting through selfie sticks and tour groups. The vaporetto stop is practically at your doorstep, which makes getting around the lagoon incredibly easy.

The Room Experience

The rooms here have character — and I don’t mean that in the polite way hotels usually do when they’re trying to hide something. Each room feels like it has its own personality, with those gorgeous Venetian touches you’d expect but done in a way that doesn’t feel like a theme park. The windows actually open (thank goodness), and if you’re lucky enough to get one facing the canal, well, you’ll understand why couples rate this place so highly. There’s something undeniably romantic about falling asleep to the gentle lapping of water against ancient stones.

  Elegant, painted high ceiling in the spacious main bedroom. Tastefully furnished and in a beautiful palazzo. The art and furniture are good quality and mostly appropriate.
  
  What could be improved: The list of house rules was offensive. There were no proper coat hangers so I had to buy wooden ones to hang my clothes. A chest of drawers would have been useful as the only drawer storage was in the bedside tables. There is only one shower room for two bedrooms and the third person had to walk through the main bedroom to use it. I suppose that’s ok for a family but more difficult for friends.

  The apartment is in a gorgeous old Venetian building, fairly close to Ferrovia St Lucia, and the ceiling in the largest room and height of the rooms are wonderful. The entrance through courtyards before the 2 flights of access stairs are beautiful and atmospheric.
  
  What could be improved: The main bedroom has an uncomfortable bed, and sadly has no privacy as those in the second room have to walk through to the bathroom- this could be resolved by using the dining room as bedroom 2 which is also a lovely room, and the main room which feels like a main elegant reception room which has been refurbished returned for communal enjoyment.
  You will need to take toiletries as very little is provided, and it was quite noisy at night because of drunken tourists at the weekend in the passage way below. The local guide is lovely and helpful, but the owner sent an upsetting rude message in capitals , warning of a late fee and ' you might have to wait outside for many hours if you arrive later than 8pm- we couldn't reach it until 9pm. Sadly disappointed- an expensive location like this would normally be friendly, polite, well equipped, and comfortable.

  Beautiful classical Venetian building. Historical interior with many high-end original vintage furniture, artifacts and decorations. Fully renovated modern bathroom and kitchen. Felt like we were staying in a movie set! Great location esp for those who want to avoid dragging suitcases across town.
  
  What could be improved: The apartment sleeps 4, but it is not possible to access the shared bathroom, dining room and kitchen without passing through one of the bedrooms, which means if you are a group over 2 people, some people will have to put up with having little to no privacy.
