Location & Neighborhood

The Castello district is where Venetians actually live and work, and GDhouse puts you right in the heart of it all. You’re a pleasant ten-minute walk to St. Mark’s Square, but more importantly, you’re surrounded by genuine bacari (wine bars) and neighborhood trattorias that haven’t been discovered by every guidebook yet. The nearby Arsenale area has this wonderful industrial-meets-artistic vibe, especially during Biennale years when the whole district buzzes with creative energy. I love that you can grab your morning coffee at the corner bar where the barista remembers your order by day three.

The Accommodation Experience

The rooms at GDhouse feel thoughtfully designed rather than cookie-cutter corporate. Each space has character — maybe it’s the way the morning light filters through the windows, or how they’ve managed to blend modern comfort with Venetian touches without going overboard on the theme. The beds are genuinely comfortable (not always a given in Venice, trust me), and there’s enough storage space for a proper stay. What really impressed me was the attention to practical details — good lighting for reading, reliable WiFi, and bathrooms that actually function well in a centuries-old building.

Daily Rhythms

Mornings here have this lovely, unhurried quality. You’ll hear the neighborhood waking up — vendors setting up at the nearby market, locals chatting on their way to work, the gentle splash of water taxis in the distance. The staff genuinely knows the area and can point you toward experiences you wouldn’t find on your own. They might suggest the perfect time to visit a particular church when the light is just right, or recommend a bacaro that serves the best cicchetti in the district. It’s this kind of insider knowledge that makes your stay feel less touristy and more authentic.

  Clean Apartment. Good communication, also when the plans are changing. Heating is working. Checkin was good. Providing some necessary washing utensils.
  
  What could be improved: Sometimes water pressure changes, while showering, but still good for Venice. Restaurant situation around is a little challanging, but is not a problem caused of the Appartment.

  Very well located apartment for visiting the Biennale. The tips we received from Damiano also led us to restaurants where we had a very tasty meal. Much appreciated.

  The apartment was comfortable and quiet. The design of the apartment is thoughtful- there’s space for everything you need. Location is great for Biennale. Some nice restaurants nearby. After a long day of sightseeing, it was nice to come back to the apartment to rest and recharge.

  Damiano was very accommodating, fast in responding and everything was easy and nice. The appartement is on the first floor and it was very kind to be able to store our luggage before and after the check in/out times (kind of locker under the stairs)
  
  What could be improved: just an idea: take some taps for the dishwasher with you, we didnt think about that.

  Excellent location, very close to a Vaporetto stop. In a quiet street, little outside the center but everything is in walking distance.
  The place is clean, well equipped. The bathroom is enormous, the beds are comfortable.

  Good location, lovely renovation of a characterful house, easy to reach waterbuses and the Biennale exhibitions and a pleasant twenty minute walk along the waterfront to St Mark’s Square.
